Chapter 754 Johnny: Lola, Life is Long, Find Someone Else!
Lola always had dreams, always dreaming about that car accident.
Every time she woke up from the dream, her back was drenched in sweat. Often, she would just sit there, lost in thought, because in the dream, there was a blazing fire, and Johnny was walking away in a white shirt, getting further and further away.
In the end, he disappeared from her sight.
On the sixth night, after waking up and staring blankly for a long time, Lola picked up her phone and dialed Johnny's number.
The call went through, but no one answered.
After ringing several times, a mechanical voice came on, "Sorry, the number you have dialed is not available. Please try again later."
She called several more times, but still, no one answered.
Lola blinked lightly, and the phone slipped from her fingers. Suddenly, she threw off the covers and got out of bed. She didn't know where she was going or what she was going to do, but she just couldn't lie there any longer.
Something was forgotten, overlooked.
Just then, the door opened, and Charlotte walked in. Seeing Lola up, she hurried over to support her. "Why are you up? Are you hungry?"
Lola grabbed Charlotte's hand. "Mom, where's Johnny?"
Charlotte felt a pang in her heart.
Before she could answer, Lola continued, "I've been dreaming about him these past few days, dreaming about the accident. Mom, I want to see him."
Even if they couldn't be together, Lola needed to know he was safe.
Charlotte led her to sit down, gently stroking her hair. "Didn't the news say he's working on a big project abroad? He won't be back for a while."
"Even if he's abroad, he would call to ask about the kids."
Lola's face was pale under the light. "Mom, I'm afraid something happened to him. Stella and I were in the car, but he was in front. Mom, I want to see that car."
Charlotte knew she couldn't hide the truth easily, so she sighed softly. "I'll try calling him. Johnny might be busy right now."
Charlotte used her phone to dial the number.
After about five rings, someone picked up. Charlotte's voice was slightly choked. "Johnny, do you have a moment? If you do, Lola wants to talk to you."
After a moment, Charlotte handed the phone to Lola.
"You two talk. I'll step out."
Lola took the phone, watching Charlotte leave the room. After a while, she heard a slightly hoarse voice on the other end. "Lola?"
Hearing her name, Lola felt a sense of reality.
She was sure now, that Johnny was still alive, he was still there.
Tears welled up in Lola's eyes.
Suppressing her emotions, she whispered, "Johnny, I'm just glad you're okay."
There was silence on the other end, then a soft laugh.
Johnny's voice was hoarse but steady. "Lola, let's start fresh. I've been thinking a lot these past few days. It's better for us to end things now rather than drag it out. We can still be like family and raise the kids together."
Lola felt a lump in her throat.
After a long pause, she managed to say, "Okay."
Johnny glanced at his left leg, wrapped in white bandages. It had been a week, and he still couldn't move it. For now, he was confined to a wheelchair.
His fingers tightened around the phone.
He spoke softly, "Lola, find someone else. You have a long life ahead."
Lola didn't respond to that.
Whether she found someone else or not was irrelevant to Johnny. She just wanted to know where he was, if he was really as indifferent as he claimed, working on a project abroad.
She hung up the phone silently, then asked Nola to find out where Johnny's Lincoln was. Nola took some time to check and told her, "The car is at Mr. Flores' villa, Ms. Hawkins, you..."
Lola hung up and started getting dressed. She needed to see that car.
No one in the Hawkins family could stop her.
Late at night, Lola drove to the villa where they used to live. About half an hour later, her car slowly pulled into the driveway of the villa.
In the moonlight, the black Lincoln sat quietly on the lawn.
Lola opened her car door and almost stumbled as she ran over.
The luxurious black car gleamed under the moonlight, parked there intact, with only some minor scratches on the front and body. The front license plate seemed to have been carefully wiped.
That license plate was something Johnny had specifically chosen.
Lola's trembling fingers touched the car, carefully feeling every part.
The commotion woke the servants in the house. They watched as Lola, with trembling fingers, touched the car. The moonlight shone on her face, highlighting the wetness at the corners of her eyes.
Lola carefully touched the car, confirming it was the same one because there was a cartoon cat Angelina had secretly scratched on the trunk, something Johnny didn't know about.
Now, that little playful mark was still there.
Lola laughed and cried.
The servants didn't dare disturb her, silently accompanying her until she calmed down. Then they said, "After the accident, the car was sent to the repair shop and returned the same day. Mr. Flores didn't have time to deal with it because he had to go on a business trip. He'll probably be back next month."
The one speaking was Jody Griffin, the most honest servant in the house.
Lola, in a daze, thought that if Jody said it so confidently, it must be true. Johnny really went abroad, and the accident wasn't that serious.
The nightmares of the past few days were just her imagination.
She took a step back, ready to leave.
