Chapter 214 I'm begging you, don't go!
Normally, he wouldn't dare approach the Devereux family, but today he had to stand up for himself. After a lot of thought, he finally said, "Frederick and Charlotte's marriage is set. My mom and I have one request: let Charlotte marry from the Mitchell family, and we'll provide the dowry! If they have a second child, we hope one of the kids can take the Mitchell surname!"
Patrick couldn't stand hearing this but stayed silent, letting Andrew handle it.
Andrew, usually calm and composed, dropped the act in front of Elijah and got angry. "What does a Devereux child have to do with you, Elijah?"
Elijah pulled out DNA test results and said hoarsely, "Charlotte is my child with Victoria, and no one can change that!"
Andrew sneered and pointed at Elijah. "How much is DNA worth? Elijah, let me ask you, have you ever spent a dime on Charlotte? Did you ever hold her when she was little? William and Maria raised her. At the wedding, Charlotte will only call Maria 'Mom,' and you, Elijah, won't even have the right to attend! Charlotte's father is now lying in a grave next to my sister Victoria, while you are lying next to another woman. After driving my sister away, you immediately got married! Now you want to be her father? Dream on."
Elijah couldn't argue back.
Back then, Victoria misunderstood him. He was lying next to Audrey, but nothing happened!
Victoria left in a huff.
He only found out Victoria was pregnant after he married Audrey.
Victoria, from a prestigious family, was willing to marry a poor boy. But reality was harsher than any story. Victoria was let down by the poor boy!
Elijah had been happily married for over 20 years! And now he wanted to acknowledge his daughter!
Andrew didn't hold back, and he didn't need to. What had Elijah lost? Nothing, but Victoria died of depression, and Andrew lost his beloved sister.
Patrick stood by.
Elijah sought his help, but Patrick could only shrug as an apology.
Elijah had done favors for the Hawkins family, but over the years, they had almost repaid them. Besides, when Chloe was saved from drowning, she said in her sleep that Katherine pushed her into the water.
With Katherine's mischief and Elijah losing his ability to have children, some things were hard for Patrick and his wife to say.
Today, naturally, Charlotte and the baby in her belly were more important. Frederick was already doing enough by fighting that lawsuit.
Elijah left feeling disappointed. As he walked out of the Devereux estate, he looked up at the sky. "Victoria, you still don't forgive me. You're still punishing me!"
Frederick found Charlotte in her room.
The light pink bedroom, about 500 square feet, was warmly decorated, clearly set up by Andrew for her.
The room was cozy with the heater on.
Charlotte was asleep on the sofa, with just a blanket covering her small belly.
The little white dog was curled up at her feet, pretending to be asleep.
Frederick came in, and the dog opened its eyes, glanced at him, then closed them again.
Frederick leaned in and kissed her gently.
Charlotte woke up.
Frederick kissed her for a while before lying beside her. He spoke softly, "I used to feel sad when you were cold to me. Now, I just find it charming and want to tease you!"
Charlotte said in a hoarse voice, "You're so shameless!"
Frederick chuckled, holding her waist, telling her not to move.
Charlotte felt his touch on her thigh and stayed still. She didn't want to provoke him, knowing they couldn't do anything in the first three months of pregnancy.
Frederick pressed his forehead against hers and whispered, "Charlotte, we're about to become a legal couple."
Charlotte wasn't as excited as he was.
She extended her slender fingers, gently tracing his features, and smiled faintly. "It's to give the child a legal status! But you still need to keep proving yourself."
She spoke calmly, but he understood.
Charlotte hadn't fully given herself to him, probably because she had been disappointed too many times and couldn't believe he could bring her happiness.
"Close your eyes!" He kissed on her eyebrows, finding them inexplicably beautiful.
Charlotte smiled slightly under the kiss and closed her eyes.
Since they were preparing to get married and both families had met, she didn't need to keep ignoring him, which would seem pretentious.
Frederick took out a thin chain with a diamond ring pendant.
It was the one weighing 52 carats!
When Charlotte opened her eyes, there was a necklace around her neck. She could feel what it was just by touching it.
"Do you like it?"
Frederick leaned in, pressing his face against hers. "Charlotte, I'll put it on you at the wedding!"
Charlotte leaned softly against him.
Frederick found her obedience touching and couldn't help but feel emotional, giving her a light kiss on the lips.
The kiss was very affectionate.
Maybe because they were about to become parents, there was a new tenderness between them.
Charlotte's face turned slightly red.
Frederick smiled faintly, gently brushing her face with his hand, teasing her with a light laugh. It was the first time they hadn't done anything intimate, yet it felt incredibly wonderful and close.
They got their marriage certificate in Copenhegan.
With both sets of parents as witnesses, they became a legal couple and had dinner at the Devereux residence that night.
Afterward, Patrick took his wife and daughter and left first. Frederick stayed with Charlotte for a few more days before returning to Syeattel.
Back in Syeattel, Charlotte moved into Frederick's villa.
Frederick treated her very well. Patrick and his wife often visited, and Chloe frequently came over for meals.
Not long after, Frederick took a trip to Novaria.
He was gone for about three or four days. To say Charlotte had no thoughts about it would be a lie.
But she understood Frederick. As long as he had no emotional entanglements with Katherine, she didn't want to cause any drama over past issues.
The day Frederick returned from Novaria, Brian came to the villa with Jenna. They were close to Charlotte and knew about her pregnancy and marriage to Frederick.
After discussing business, Brian glanced at her belly.
He snorted lightly. "When it's born, it'll definitely be as silly as you! But it should be quite pretty!"
Charlotte shook her head, amused.
She reached out to touch her belly. She really liked this little child, who hadn't caused her much trouble.
Looking at Charlotte, who wore a motherly smile, Brian got angry. He took a small box out of his pocket and tossed it to her. "It's for your child! I earned the money myself, not from my dad!"
After saying that, he touched his nose, probably feeling too sentimental, and turned to leave.
Jenna smiled and followed him out.
Charlotte opened the box to find a loose diamond inside.
It was a 2-carat pink diamond and very precious.
Brian had probably spent all his earnings on it. Charlotte lightly scolded him with a smile, but her eyes were a bit red.
Just as she was feeling emotional, she heard the sound of a car in the courtyard.
Frederick was back.
In the winter, he wore a suit with an overcoat, looking incredibly handsome.
The servant helped him with his luggage and then left.
Frederick took off his coat and walked towards Charlotte, taking the box from her hand. "I saw Brian at the door just now. Did he give this to you?"
Charlotte didn't hide it and nodded.
Frederick looked at it for a while, his gaze deep. "He sure is thoughtful!"
Charlotte knew he was angry again.
She got up to help him hang his coat and casually asked, "When's the third trial?"
Frederick sat down, took a sip of water from her cup, and smiled slightly. "It's basically set! Howard Brooks can handle the third trial."
Charlotte was surprised.
Did that mean he didn't need to go to Novaria anymore?
She minded Katherine, so it was a lie to say she wasn't happy about this news, but she still remained reserved and just responded with a soft "hmm."
Frederick knew her well.
He didn't point out her little thoughts, but as she was hanging up his coat, he hugged her from behind. "It's almost three months, right? The doctor said we could have sex after three months."
Charlotte's face turned slightly red.
Since she got pregnant, they hadn't been intimate.
She didn't really want to, but she knew Frederick had needs. Many nights, he would lift the blanket in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom to take a cold shower.
Charlotte changed the subject. "Lily's child is having a party tomorrow. Are you coming with me?"
Frederick rested his chin on her shoulder.
He deliberately blew lightly on her ear. "Of course, I'll go! You are so popular. I'm afraid if I don't keep an eye on you, someone else might try to steal you!"
Charlotte got angry.
He let go of her and chuckled. "I'll go take a shower, and then we'll have dinner!"
Hearing footsteps behind her, Charlotte couldn't help but look up.
After all, they hadn't seen each other for four days!
Frederick looked at her from the stairs, with a faint smile and a hint of mockery.
Bradley and Lily didn't have a big wedding, but after having an 8-pound son, the Lawson family threw a lively party, making up for the previous regrets and even gifting Lily a villa.
Charlotte looked at the child in Lily's arms, feeling happy for her.
Lily had just given birth a few days ago and hadn't regained her figure, looking a bit chubby.
She gently rocked the baby and glanced at Frederick, who was socializing on the other side, and asked Charlotte in a low voice, "How are things between you two?"
Charlotte played with the baby and smiled faintly. "People can be moved! When we got the certificate, I really just wanted to give the child a legal status, but over time, I've softened. I'll give it another try!"
Lily didn't say anything more.
At that moment, Frederick came over and pointed at Lily's son. "Can I hold him?"
Lily was tired of holding the baby and immediately handed him over.
It was Frederick's first time holding a baby, and the soft little child made his heart soften too, knowing that his and Charlotte's baby would be born in half a year.
Their child would definitely be cuter than this little guy!
Frederick held the baby for a long time, and when he looked up, he gazed at Charlotte with gentle eyes.
Lily finally understood why Charlotte said people could be moved! With Frederick looking at her like that, what woman could resist?
