Chapter 836 Grant, I Want to Ask You, What Do You Want?
Grant frowned. "This has nothing to do with Natalie!"
Nancy gave a bitter smile. "I know, it has nothing to do with her! Grant, I'm not so unreasonable that I'd blame our problems on Natalie."
"Then what are you doing today?"
Grant asked her with a blank expression, their eyes meeting in the mirror.
Nancy was momentarily dazed.
He was asking what she was doing, but really, a woman causing such a scene only wanted a result: either he completely cut ties with Jade, or he made the decision to cancel their wedding.
They were silent for a long time.
Grant finally spoke in a calm voice. "Let's leave the hospital first."
He reached for her hand, but she didn't move.
Grant knew she wanted an answer. He stared at her face in the mirror for a while, then took off his watch, turned on the faucet, and began washing his hands.
The sound of running water filled the room.
Grant's voice was low and serious. "Jade was around before we met. Yes, I admit that signing that contract had certain implications, but I never had a sexual relationship with her. We never had any physical contact. It was just... paying for nostalgia."
"As for traveling abroad together, that never happened. Since we met, I haven't had any personal interactions with her. Last month, I went to Sylvanor for an urgent matter, and there weren't many people available, so I had Jade go."
Feeling somewhat guilty, Grant lowered his stance.
He said softly, "You don't like seeing her, so I'll transfer her out of the main office, send her to a branch overseas. She won't come back."
He thought this outcome would satisfy Nancy.
Nancy listened in a daze.
Indeed, for people in their circle, this was a satisfactory result. Asking for more would be greedy.
But during those days, she thought Grant had some feelings for her.
If he liked her, this wouldn't be enough.
But Nancy couldn't say it. She suddenly felt tired.
She couldn't even compare to being a stand-in for Natalie. What right did she have to talk about love with Grant? It was laughable.
As for the wedding, she wouldn't cancel it.
Let it be.
All her expectations had turned to dust, and she wouldn't expect anything more in the future.
Grant had turned off the faucet, put his watch back on, and was waiting for her response.
Nancy composed herself and said, "You go back first. I need some time alone. I'll call you later."
She didn't say it explicitly, but Grant knew her decision.
Nancy had always been mature and sensible.
She wouldn't make a wrong decision over someone irrelevant.
Grant left.
As he walked out of the restroom, Nancy's voice came from behind. "Grant, remember your decision. Never let her come back to the main office."
Grant paused, then continued walking.
After he left, Nancy gave a bitter smile. She knew a man's promise was like a fart in the wind, it dissipated over time.
But why did she want to believe him now?
Maybe she didn't want to fight anymore.
Maybe she had silently agreed. The things she said were just for herself to hear.
She no longer had high expectations for Grant, so she could be more tolerant, more magnanimous.
Even if there were more scandals in the future, she thought she could endure it. She was just looking for a legal father for the child in her belly.
Grant was right; in this regard, she was more realistic than Natalie.
Because she didn't have Natalie's family background.
Nancy had always paid a high price whenever she wanted to act on impulse.
Over time, it had shaped her current weak personality.
She stood in the restroom for a while before leaving. Instead of going home, she went to Natalie's hospital room.
She sincerely apologized to Natalie for disturbing her because of her issues with Grant.
Their issues, Natalie couldn't say much.
She could see Nancy's current sorrow, and she had heard some of Grant's rumors from Molly. But she could only listen.
She couldn't help Nancy. Even saying one more word would harm Nancy.
After a few words, Natalie asked Chloe to see Nancy out.
Chloe quickly returned after seeing Nancy off.
The mother and daughter were silent for a while. Chloe spoke first, sighing.
"Ms. Walsh comes from a scholarly family. Her parents are very traditional. Now that she's pregnant with Grant's child, it's hard for her to escape this marriage. Her current choice is likely a result of enduring."
Natalie understood.
She felt sorry for Nancy. With her good qualities, Nancy should have had a great future.
But she also thought that a good future wasn't determined by qualities alone. Just like her own rocky love life.
As she was thinking, Clayton walked in.
He had gone home to shower and change, looking refreshed but still slightly tired.
He closed the door and looked at Natalie. "No matter what, while you're in the hospital, let me take care of you."
Chloe found an excuse to leave.
Clayton placed the food he had made on the small table. He sat beside Natalie and said softly, "I saw Nancy when I came in. Did she have a fight with Grant?"
Being in the business world, Clayton had heard the rumors about Grant.
He was a bit surprised.
When he hesitated to push Natalie towards Grant, Grant had secretly kept a young girl. He had seen the girl at social events, and she was quite pretty.
But not as pretty as Natalie.
A girl raised with care and attention is still different.
Clayton didn't expect Natalie to respond, as she had always been cold to him.
Unexpectedly, Natalie said, "Yeah, they had a fight. But I think they'll still get married."
She was a woman too.
She could see that Nancy loved Grant, and Grant had feelings for Nancy. They had a child together... they wouldn't separate easily.
Natalie spoke with a calm face, looking a bit fragile, making her very attractive.
Clayton wanted to hug her.
But considering their relationship, he held back.
He asked in a low voice, "Natalie, what about us? Do we have a chance?"
After the previous night, their relationship had clearly improved.
Natalie drank some soup and then asked, "Clayton, what kind of chance do you want?"
Clayton was silent for a long time.
Then he smiled faintly.
Yes, what kind of chance did he want?
Now, being able to exchange a few words was already very good. He should be content.
While Natalie ate, Clayton sat on the sofa, handling some work on his phone.
May was a busy month for the company, and he had accumulated a lot of work from his time in Copenhegan. But he was still willing to stay with Natalie.
Even sleeping on the floor at night was fine.
Halfway through her meal, Natalie spoke softly. "Clayton, we can co-parent the children. When you have time, you can visit Haven. And for the baby, you can take them for two days a week if you want."
Clayton was slightly stunned.
After a long time, he looked at her and asked softly, "Natalie, is this your way of repaying me? I didn't do those things for repayment. I did them because..."
Natalie remained indifferent. "If you don't want visitation rights, you can give them up."
"I want them!"
Clayton's voice was hoarse. He stared at her face, knowing how difficult it was for her to make this decision, how hard it was for her to say it.
After all, she had once told him they would never meet again and that he would never see the children.
He couldn't help but repeat, "Natalie, I want them!"
Natalie turned her face towards the window.
In fact, she had thought long and hard before making this decision.
She wasn't forgiving Clayton, but letting go.
So, they would interact as exes.
While Natalie was in the hospital, Clayton often came to take care of her.
Their interactions were calm, not overly warm, with a sense of distance.
Clayton thought that the kiss that day must have been an accident.
Natalie probably didn't remember it.
He had no complaints. He would accompany Natalie on walks, go with her to prenatal checkups...
Later, he suggested bringing Haven back to Syeattel, and Natalie agreed.
Clayton felt that his life wasn't bad.
On May 20th, he came to accompany Natalie, bringing a bouquet of lilies to freshen the air.
He didn't even dare to buy roses, fearing she would dislike them.
Natalie didn't say much.
She leaned against the headboard, finishing the ending of "The Three Little Bears."
Clayton noticed and his eyes darkened. "Is the ending a bad one?"
Natalie said, "Yes."
Clayton stared into her eyes and slowly said, "This kind of ending might not sell well."
Natalie smiled faintly. "Then I'll develop it myself."
She knew the ending was too adult, but maybe it would have unexpected success in the adult market.
Besides, she had enough savings to afford it.
Clayton didn't say anything more.
Just then, Molly came in after picking up the kids. She hesitated when she saw Natalie and Clayton.
Natalie asked what was wrong, and Molly hesitated for a long time before saying, "Today is Grant and Nancy's wedding, right? That girl with the last name Harper couldn't take it and caused a scene. She jumped from the fourth floor. She didn't die, but she broke her leg."
Natalie was slightly stunned.
She hadn't expected Grant and Nancy's wedding to end like this.
