Chapter 340 Those Memories Flashed Through His Mind
In the evening, Charlotte waved goodbye to Lily.
Jared, all gentleman-like, opened the car door for her with a grin. "Perfect timing to pick up Lola. She's gonna be over the moon to see you."
Even though there were a bunch of kids at home, Lola was the cutest of them all.
Charlotte couldn't help but smile.
Just as she was about to hop in the car, someone grabbed her wrist. She looked up and saw it was Ethan.
Charlotte shook him off gently. "Mr. Cooper, what do you want?"
Jared yelled, "How dare you mess with a married woman in broad daylight? Can't you find your own wife?"
Ethan ignored Jared. He stared at Charlotte, his voice a bit raspy. "Charlotte, do we still have a shot?"
Charlotte gave a faint smile and said calmly, "Ethan, I don't think I ever made you think we'd get back together."
With that, she got into the car.
Jared slammed the door and shot Ethan a nasty look.
The car slowly drove away.
Ethan stood there, lost in thought.
He'd known Charlotte for over ten years, and his feelings for her were all tangled up. He wanted her but also felt deep regret. When he found out she was unhappy, he often thought that if he hadn't sent William to jail, Charlotte would've always believed he loved her.
They would've been fine.
And Charlotte would've been his wife, staying home to support him and raise their kids.
But sadly, there were no "ifs."
Ethan was in a bad mood. That evening, he drank a lot while hanging out with business buddies.
By nine o'clock, he was already wasted.
Unexpectedly, he ran into Frederick in the restroom, who was clearly there for business too.
It was just the two of them.
One was drunk and bummed out, and the other was stone-cold sober.
Frederick was 35, at that age where guys are super attractive. With his clean private life, he looked just the same, though he seemed more reserved.
Their eyes met in the mirror.
Ethan sneered. He pulled out a cigarette, leaned against the wall, and lit it.
Taking a deep drag, he looked at Frederick. "You come to a place like this and steer clear of mingling with other women? Afraid Charlotte will get mad?"
Frederick slowly turned off the faucet and adjusted his shirt in the mirror. "Mr. Cooper, do you think what you're saying is interesting?"
Ethan kept sneering.
He tilted his head back, blowing out smoke, and said, "Frederick, I didn't lose to you; I lost to my younger self."
Then he got all dazed, looking down and pinching the cigarette.
After a long while, he spoke again, "You've lost part of your memory, but my time with Charlotte is complete in memory. I don't believe you don't care."
Frederick wiped his hands with a paper towel. He smiled faintly. "Yeah, I do care! No man wouldn't! But so what, Mr. Cooper? The guy who holds Charlotte every night is me. I know you're thinking about those rumors. But how can a couple's relationship be defined by a few words?"
With that, he walked out.
He was clean and fresh, without a trace of women's perfume, clearly planning to go home.
He hadn't touched a drop of alcohol and was driving himself.
Meanwhile, Ethan was at the club, puking his guts out.
Frederick went home.
Charlotte was teaching Lola piano, with a small cradle beside her.
Kingsley was lying in it, playing with his little fingers.
Frederick strolled into the living room, bent down, and kissed his son. "Has he eaten yet? If not, I can whip up some baby food for him," he asked Charlotte casually.
Charlotte let Lola practice on her own and walked over to pick up Kingsley, placing him in Frederick's arms. "Hold him for a bit. He's getting heavy. The doc said we need to watch his weight."
Frederick chuckled.
Since he started taking care of Kingsley, the little guy had gotten pretty chubby.
He teased Kingsley and, lowering his voice, flirted with Charlotte, "I've been taking care of you two, Charlotte. Why haven't you gained any weight?"
He held her every night, yet she stayed as slender as ever.
Charlotte shot him a look. "Should I try to gain some weight?"
Of course, Frederick didn't want that. No guy would dislike his wife's slim waist, but he wouldn't make her eat less either. Charlotte was probably just strict with herself.
Watching him hold the baby, Charlotte remembered what the shrink had said.
She whispered, "In a few days, let's have another kid."
Frederick looked up at her, his gaze deep.
Jared had called him earlier, so he knew Charlotte had met with Ethan. Coupled with Ethan's provocative words, he was a bit worried.
He was afraid Charlotte would be disappointed in him and start longing for her past relationship.
He asked softly, "Do you like kids?"
"Yeah, I do!"
Frederick lowered his head and kissed Kingsley's little cheek, casually asking, "Do you like me?"
The atmosphere was delicate. Lola finished playing the piano and came over, hugging Frederick's leg, wanting to be held too.
Frederick picked up Lola as well.
He was strong, holding both kids without breaking a sweat. He asked Charlotte, "You always say Lola is independent. Look at her clinging to me like this. How is she independent?"
Charlotte, always doting on the kids, was about to say something.
Lola hugged his neck. "Mommy is so grown up and still not independent. Daddy, why do you want me to be independent?"
Charlotte looked at Frederick and smiled softly.
She patted Lola's head. "I'm gonna take a bath. You play with them for a while. Lola misses you."
With that, she walked straight upstairs.
It was probably a bit warm, as Charlotte gathered her golden hair while climbing the stairs.
She revealed a small section of her fair neck.
Frederick glanced at her a few more times.
Lola sighed dramatically and said to Kingsley, "Kingsley, you need to learn to be independent quickly!"
Because Frederick always wanted to be in love.
Frederick put the two kids to sleep and returned to the bedroom.
Charlotte was wearing a bathrobe, leaning against the headboard, reading a book.
He stood at the door, fingers loosening his tie, gently pulling it off.
He still cared about Ethan, so he deliberately brought up a topic, "Isn't the reunion in a couple of days? Have you got your dress ready?"
Charlotte put down her book.
She enjoyed watching him undress; it was quite a sight.
After a while, she smiled faintly. "It's actually more of a school anniversary. There will be a lot of people; no need to be so high-profile."
Frederick tossed aside his shirt and leaned closer to her, speaking softly, "Mrs. Hawkins, you actually take good care of yourself."
From a man's perspective, Charlotte's current appearance and figure were ideal.
He liked it very much.
Seeing his gaze and his disheveled appearance, Charlotte naturally wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned in to kiss him. She thought it was a signal of his desire.
But after a while, Frederick didn't make any moves.
She couldn't help but sneak a peek at him.
Frederick gently touched her cheek, his voice hoarse. "I saw Ethan at the club tonight! Charlotte, will Ethan be at the school anniversary too?"
She leaned on his shoulder and truthfully said, "I don't know."
Frederick traced the curves of her body, gently pressing her down, holding her tightly.
"If he goes, I want to go too," he said.
Charlotte lay on the black sheets, her bathrobe slightly open, looking stunningly beautiful. She caressed her husband's handsome, lean face and laughed. "Frederick, you're so childish!"
The school anniversary was a joint event between two universities.
It had nothing to do with him.
Frederick pulled her into his arms and took out his phone from his pocket, dialing a number.
It was Bradley.
Frederick skillfully asked, "Bradley, are you out having fun?"
Bradley pleaded, "I'm a married man now. I can't mess around! Frederick, why are you calling me?"
Frederick glanced at Charlotte. He smiled and softly asked, "Are you and Lily wearing matching outfits to the school anniversary?"
Bradley immediately started talking. "I had something in mind, but Lily wouldn't let me. She said a second marriage shouldn't be too flashy! But I wanted to show off. Especially since I heard Robert is going too. He even sponsored $2 million! Frederick, Charlotte worked with him back then, right? It helped him make a comeback. Charlotte was wrong to do that!"
Bradley went on and on.
Frederick finally said, "So Robert can go, but I haven't been invited."
Bradley's mouth dropped open.
Realizing his mistake, he wanted to greet Charlotte, but Lily hung up the phone.
Frederick tossed the phone aside, looking at Charlotte with dissatisfaction. "Lily's ex-husband and current husband are both going. Aren't you planning to take a husband?"
Charlotte knew she had no choice but to take him.
She unusuallyjoked with him. "Aren't I taking two?"
One was the old you, and one was the current you.
Frederick understood, and in a fit of anger, he pinned her down and kissed her for a long time before letting her go. He gazed into her eyes and softly said, "Charlotte, don't deliberately provoke me!"
He cared deeply now!
Charlotte, after a playful tussle with him, had a light sheen of sweat on her forehead.
She gently touched the corner of his eye, where there were already some fine lines, adding to his mature male charm.
He was truly attractive to women!
She softly said, "Frederick, I'm not interested in cheating."
The atmosphere was delicate.
But Frederick understood her meaning; she was indifferent even to him, having no interest in anyone else!
He said nothing, gently holding her in his arms.
After lying quietly for a long time, he softly said, "We'll be fine."
Late at night, Charlotte fell asleep.
Frederick got up, not to shower, but to put on a shirt and walk into the study. On the desk was a business card with the contact information of the world-renowned hypnosis master, Jacob Ross.
It was said that there was no memory he couldn't awaken.
But the process would be very painful.
When Charlotte woke up, there was a white rose on the pillow beside her.
She gently touched it.
When she sat up and checked the time, she was surprised to find it was already 10 o'clock. She never slept that deeply.
Downstairs, Dana told her, "Frederick took Lola to kindergarten early this morning, and Kingsley was picked up by Laura."
Charlotte nodded.
After washing up, she couldn't help but call Frederick.
At that moment, Frederick was at the clinic.
Lying on a white recliner, holding his phone, he spoke gently, "I saw you sleeping soundly this morning, so I didn't wake you. With the kids gone, do something you enjoy."
Charlotte murmured an acknowledgment and hung up.
Frederick felt somewhat disappointed. Charlotte never really thought about him in many things.
For example, even though she was free today, she wouldn't think of seeing him.
Even if they could nap together for an hour, it would be sweet, but Charlotte never did. She only saw him as family, as a handsome husband.
At this moment, Jacob and his assistant entered.
The assistant dimmed the lights, speaking softly, "Mr. Hawkins, we're starting now. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, let us know immediately."
Frederick nodded and gently closed his eyes.
Jacob was indeed skilled in deep hypnosis. Soon, Frederick's mind was filled with countless chaotic images.
A golf course.
Heavy rain.
In a golden Continental car, he and Charlotte were kissing, with her lying in his arms.
A hospital.
She was holding a diamond ring, which clinked as it fell to the ground.
[How many times did you do it with him?]
[Frederick, tell me; what does it mean to be able to deal with that?]
[I don't want it anymore.]
[Charlotte, don't give up on me!]
Countless fragments couldn't piece together. He began to feel pain, his head aching unbearably. He couldn't hold on, his head felt like it was splitting.
But amidst the pain, something kept him from wanting to come out.
He saw Charlotte's tears.
She was curled up, crying sadly. He wanted to tell her don't cry, but he found he couldn't speak.
Frederick's forehead was covered in sweat.
His well-defined hand gripped the armrest, veins bulging.
"Mr. Hawkins! Mr. Hawkins!"
The assistant woke him up, and when Frederick came to, his mind was blank.
Most of the chaotic images were gone.
Only Charlotte's crying face and the splitting headache remained!
Frederick lay there quietly.
Sweat dripped down his handsome features, soaking his entire neck.
Jacob said, "Mr. Hawkins, I'm sorry, but I can't hypnotize you again unless you want to risk your life. This is truly a dangerous thing."
Frederick slowly calmed down.
He felt utterly exhausted, as if he had died once.
He didn't want to give up. He had clearly touched on what he wanted to know, but it was all taken away the moment he returned to reality. He was unwilling to accept it. "I want to try again!"
"NO!" Jacob said, "Mr. Hawkins, I refuse to serve you!"
Cherie came in to plead.
Jacob packed his things, shaking his head. "Mr. Hawkins' physical memory doesn't affect his life. Why does he insist on remembering? This is truly a strange thing!"
All the way to the car, Frederick kept thinking, why did he have to remember?
It was for Charlotte!
If he regained his memory and became a complete Frederick, Charlotte's illness would surely be cured.
She would be truly happy!
And she wouldn't see their marriage as a compromise. Frederick couldn't stand Charlotte's compromise!
