Chapter 668 You Married a Reliable Man

After their steamy session, both of them drenched in sweat, Kingsley pulled a thin blanket over Amara and held her close. Their breathing slowly returned to normal. Kingsley asked softly, "Feeling better now?"

Amara buried her face into the white pillow, rubbing against it. Seeing she didn't answer, Kingsley nudged her. "Are you shy?"

"Why would I be shy? It felt amazing," she replied.

Her honesty made Kingsley smile. They cuddled in silence for a bit before Amara turned around. "I'm starving!"

Their eyes locked, and after a long moment, Amara looked away first. She whispered, "How about we shower and grab some food?"

She snuggled into his arms. "We still need to head home later."

Even though Ralph's and Zachary's drama had affected her, she didn't want it to mess up her life. Jesse was still at home, and she needed to oversee Nicole's piano lesson tonight.

Kingsley gently stroked her hair. "Amara, you don't need to stress so much! Jesse's a good kid, Hailey can put him to bed, and skipping Nicole's lesson once in a while won't hurt."

"I want to go home!" Amara softly repeated, "To our home."

Kingsley grinned. "So, I'm off the hook?"

He was talking about the Billy situation. His mention of it reminded Amara, and after a moment of thought, she said, "Depends on your behavior. You're still on probation."

Kingsley pulled her closer, his breath warm against her ear as he whispered, "But you just let me make love to you?"

Amara pushed him away and got up, walking into the bathroom without hiding from him.

Kingsley felt a lump in his throat as he watched. Her voice came from the bathroom. "From today on, no more sex for you."

Kingsley chuckled, and he casually put on his pants, walking to the floor-to-ceiling window and opening it. Lighting a cigarette, he picked up his phone and sent a message to Rebecca: [Tell Tristan Church from HR to pack his bags and join Ralph in expanding business overseas.]

Tristan, who took Kingsley's high salary but didn't keep secrets, was intolerable to Kingsley.

Kingsley was never one to forgive easily.

After putting down his phone, he finished his cigarette, then walked back to the bed to pick up his shirt and slowly button it.

When Amara came out, she saw him dressing and asked, "Aren't you going to wash up?"

He replied, "I wiped myself down!"

Amara didn't push it. She stepped forward, her touch gentle as she helped him with the remaining buttons, saying softly, "Let's go home after we eat."

Kingsley glanced at the messy bed and smiled. "So this is our new lovemaking spot?"

Amara gave him a look that was both exasperated and affectionate.

During dinner, she seemed distracted and didn't eat much.

Kingsley looked up. "That's not enough! Eat a bit more."

Amara shook her head. "I can't eat anymore!"

He watched her for a moment but didn't push it. When they got in the car, Amara said, "Aren't you going to eat more? Kingsley, you don't have to keep me company."

Kingsley focused on the road ahead and smiled faintly. "If you don't have an appetite, how can I enjoy my meal?"

Amara was somewhat touched.

On the way, he got several calls. The first few were from Maurice, probably wanting Amara to attend Zachary's funeral to show some respect, but Kingsley intercepted them all.

His tone was icy. "Mr. Hughes, even though Amara and I are engaged, we haven't tied the knot yet, so she won't be attending the mourning with the Hawkins family. Plus, she's not in any shape to handle such an event. Please don't push her."

Maurice kept trying to convince him, but Kingsley wouldn't budge.

The last call was from Frederick, who cut straight to the chase. "What's going on? You can't handle this, and now Maurice is calling me? Amara has nothing to do with the Hughes Family. Our family can support Amara and Jesse without their money. Your mother is right; Amara grew up without taking a dime from him, so why should she mourn for him now?"

Kingsley replied, "I already said Amara won't go!"

He hung up and glanced at Amara as they stopped at a red light.

He caressed her hand. "Dad's on our side. You shouldn't go! Don't worry about it. As long as our family stands firm, the Hughes Family can't do anything."

Amara nodded slightly. Though she seemed calm, Kingsley knew she needed some space. When they got home, he took over the tasks of bathing Snowflake and checking Nicole's homework.

Snowflake was particularly chubby, almost like a little French Bulldog. When Kingsley bathed Snowflake, it was very obedient, and the two kids watched eagerly.

"Daddy, I want to touch these little buttons."

Kingsley looked at the "buttons" he mentioned and couldn't help but laugh, but he still let Jesse touch them.

Snowflake's expression was priceless.

Nicole, understanding a bit more, just kept laughing. Kingsley sent her off to practice the piano, and as the piano music played, he blow-dried Snowflake's fur.

Amara was in the upstairs bedroom, sitting on the balcony, quietly gazing at the stars in the night sky. She could hear all the sounds from downstairs.

A shooting star streaked across the sky.

Warm arms wrapped around her from behind, and she stiffened slightly. After a moment, she turned to see Kingsley. He said gently, "I took a moment to come check on you."

Amara softly caressed his handsome face. "I'm fine! Kingsley, did you see the shooting star just now?"

"I missed it!" Kingsley stepped forward, letting her rest her head on his abdomen. Together, they gazed at the sky. After a long while, he said softly, "It must have been your mom coming to see you, so no one else could see it."

Amara had become very independent, but now she leaned against him like a little girl, her voice surprisingly innocent. "Really?"

"Yes! She came to see her daughter, who is doing well and married to a reliable man!"

Amara frowned and smiled. "You really dare to say that!"

"Why not? Weren't you comfortable in the apartment just now?"

Amara's face flushed slightly in the dark, but she didn't argue. She stayed quiet for a while.  Perhaps Hazel noticed her mood and thoughtfully brought her a glass of juice, chilled, "Mrs. Hawkins, try this. It's freshly squeezed from new fruits from my hometown!"

Amara didn't want to reject her kindness, and the juice smelled good. She took it, intending to drink a bit.

But as soon as she smelled it, her stomach felt uneasy, and she rushed to the bathroom, retching for a long time without much coming out.

Kingsley followed her. "I'll take you to the hospital! You might have caught a cold!"

Amara knew her body well and gently shook her head.

At this moment, Hazel stammered from behind, "Mrs. Hawkins, could you be pregnant?"
