Chapter 148 Frederick Got Hurt
Charlotte's face was red.
Whenever she got shy, her cheeks would blush, which was pretty cute.
Nicholas stared at her.
Charlotte tried to stay calm. "Bradley left first."
Nicholas nodded. "My car's in the shop, so I took a cab. Miss Russell, can you give me a ride?"
Charlotte hesitated.
The guy seemed nice, but was he always this forward?
It was their first meeting, and he was already asking for a ride home.
Charlotte was innocent and naive, but Lily sensed something. Nicholas was clearly interested in Charlotte.
She'd heard of Nicholas—handsome, smart, and from the Lawson family.
Surprisingly, he seemed to like Charlotte right away.
Lily was having a tough time but still looked out for Charlotte.
She smiled. "Charlotte, he's Bradley's cousin. If you can, give him a ride for me!"
Charlotte couldn't say no. She smiled and told Nicholas, "Sure! Send me the address."
Nicholas wasn't a dating pro, but he knew the basics. He added Charlotte on Facebook and sent his address.
Charlotte was surprised; Nicholas lived nearby.
She signaled Nicholas to get in and started the car.
Lily did most of the talking on the way.
Nicholas was respectful, which made Charlotte like him a bit more.
When they arrived, Nicholas got out.
He walked to her window and tapped lightly.
Charlotte rolled it down.
Nicholas smiled. "Thanks, Miss Russell. I'll treat you to dinner sometime."
He waved his phone.
Charlotte smiled and agreed, thinking he was just being polite. They might never meet again.
Nicholas left with a meaningful look.
As Charlotte started the car again, Lily yawned, "I'm tired."
She complained, "Bradley really drained me."
Charlotte blushed.
Lily was too blunt.
Later, Robert decided to drop the matter.
Lily stayed with Charlotte for a week before leaving.
Charlotte later found out Lily and Bradley were still in touch and had a great time in Lumina for a week.
Lily seemed happy and glowing.
Charlotte could only sigh.
She kept moving between her apartment, the music studio, and her dad's place. Her life was pretty boring.
But Charlotte got used to it.
On Thanksgiving Day, Charlotte got off work at six. The streets were festive, and young couples were everywhere.
At times like this, Charlotte thought she should start dating.
Maria knew about her breakup with Frederick and had suggested introducing her to a friend's son, but Charlotte always refused.
Speaking of Maria, the phone rang.
Maria brought it up again. "Charlotte, you should meet him. He's an associate dean, good-looking! You'll be 25 soon; you need to take this seriously."
Charlotte looked at the twinkling lights.
She smiled. "Alright! I'll meet him another day."
Maria chuckled, "Another day? He wants to ask you out tonight."
Charlotte was surprised.
After a moment, she agreed, "Alright, Maria, send me his number."
"No need!"
Charlotte turned, surprised.
It was Nicholas.
On that chilly night, he wore a white sweater under a gray coat.
At 6'1", he looked refined and handsome.
He was dazzling.
Charlotte looked at him and softly told Maria, "I ran into him."
Maria hung up, satisfied. She had found Nicholas a perfect suit for Charlotte since she knew about Nichelas.
Charlotte ended the call.
She raised her phone slightly. "Mr. Lawson, it's you."
Nicholas smiled. "Yes, it's me. Can I call you Charlotte from now on?"
Charlotte didn't object.
Nicholas walked beside her, speaking warmly, "There's a Mexican place up ahead. Their turkey legs and liqueur are great. Don't worry about drinking; I'll have a driver pick us up later."
Charlotte suddenly stopped. "Nicholas, last time at the police station, you actually drove, didn't you?"
Nicholas didn't deny it.
He smiled. "I really didn't know how to approach you, so I made up a clumsy excuse. I didn't expect you to see through it."
He was gentle and considerate.
After talking for a bit, Charlotte felt comfortable. She thought someone like him might be right for her, and she was willing to give it a try.
Charlotte looked ahead, her voice soft. "Then let's go try it."
Nicholas's eyes were filled with joy.
Charlotte didn't notice a golden Bentley driving by.
Inside the car, Frederick saw Charlotte with Nicholas, and Nicholas was looking at Charlotte with a gentle expression.
It was cold, and when Charlotte rubbed her hands together, Nicholas took off his scarf and wrapped it around her.
Frederick suddenly stopped the car.
He turned around and quietly watched them walking side by side. No matter how much he didn't want to, he had to admit that Nicholas and Charlotte were dating.
With this thought, Frederick's face turned icy.
After dinner, Nicholas suggested a movie.
But Charlotte, eaten too much tonight and looking for a way to work that out, recommended an art exhibit instead. The exhibition center was packed on Thanksgiving Day, and Charlotte, being slender, was almost squished.
Nicholas smiled and wrapped her in his arms.
Charlotte was startled but didn't refuse.
When they left the exhibition center, Nicholas held Charlotte's hand and found a less crowded spot.
It was Thanksgiving Day, and fireworks lit up the sky over Syeattel.
Nicholas gazed at Charlotte.
He really liked her; it was love at first sight.
He wanted to kiss her but was afraid of being too forward, so he kissed her forehead instead. "Charlotte, I had a great time tonight."
Charlotte also felt it was nice. This calm and steady date might not be passionate, but it was what she wanted. Amidst the bustling crowd, Nicholas gently hugged her.
Charlotte leaned lightly on his shoulder.
Nicholas smelled nice, with a faint scent of ink, unlike that other person who was overwhelming.
She thought, 'Let it be like this.'
This was good.
She should completely forget Frederick and start anew.
Fireworks blossomed in the sky again.
Charlotte gently hugged Nicholas, accepting his pursuit.
In the distance, Frederick stood among the crowd.
He watched Charlotte and Nicholas embrace, saw her look up and smile, saw her hug Nicholas's waist.
These were all things that used to belong to him.
Was she now going to give it all to another man?
Would she marry Nicholas?
Would she soon be at her wedding, thanking him for coming?
