Chapter 886 This 5 Million Dollars Is My Compensation to You!
Freya couldn't believe it. Bruce had just dumped her.
She forgot to breathe, staring at Bruce with tears in her eyes. "Bruce, you said we were dating with marriage in mind!"
Bruce sighed, "We were dating, but we weren't married, right?"
Besides, if it really wasn't working out, you could get a divorce even if you were married. Dating was even less binding.
Bruce couldn't deny there had been sweet moments in their relationship. If there were, they were before they started dating, when there was a hint of flirtation. Now, all that was left was annoyance.
He didn't like dragging things out and was determined to resolve everything tonight.
Bruce, a bit forcefully, led Freya to the car. Inside, she kept crying and asking, "Bruce, what did I do wrong? Why are you doing this to me? Is it because my family background isn't good enough?"
"Yeah."
Bruce admitted honestly.
Freya looked up, her swollen eyes filled with disbelief and hurt. "Bruce, what are you saying?"
Bruce didn't sugarcoat it. He chose to be honest with Freya. "Our backgrounds and education are too different. This relationship can't work out. I'm sorry for wasting your time."
Bruce, after all, came from a wealthy family and was generous.
He wrote a check for $5 million and placed it in Freya's hand. "Consider it compensation. Now, let me take you home."
Freya stared blankly at the check.
Sure, $5 million was a lot of money, but compared to the Taylor family's wealth, it was nothing. She had no reason to accept the money and give up on Bruce.
Besides, her colleagues knew she was meeting his parents tonight. If they found out she got dumped and only got $5 million, she'd be humiliated. How could she face them at work?
Freya decided to take a chance.
In a soft voice, she said, "Bruce, I like you for who you are, not your money. You said our backgrounds are different. I can work hard! I can continue my education, try to catch up to you, and learn to be worthy of you!"
Bruce sighed lightly. "Why bother?"
Freya could see there was no turning back with Bruce. She took a step back. "I want to continue my education. I don't even have to be your girlfriend. I just want a chance, a fair chance. Bruce, please."
Maybe it was pity, or maybe he remembered the good times. Bruce agreed.
They broke up.
But he used his connections to get her into a prestigious university. It was a great school, one Freya couldn't have gotten into on her own.
Freya studied there for two years. One day, she asked Bruce, "If you don't have a girlfriend in two years, will you consider me again?"
Bruce gave a faint smile.
Then he turned, got in his car, and drove away. The luxurious Rolls-Royce Phantom left the campus.
He thought, Freya was in his past now.
As for the apartment, Bruce had it renovated. When asked about the style, he thought for a moment and said, "Forget it, just leave it."
Why bother renovating?
Sienna wouldn't come back to live there. Freya probably wouldn't want to come back either.
Bruce always thought his breakup with Freya had nothing to do with Sienna, until one day he saw a tabloid photo of Sienna and Jeremy. Then he realized it wasn't unrelated at all.
What pushed him to break up so quickly was jealousy.
Yes, he broke up with Freya but was jealous of Sienna with someone else.
This feeling was so subtle, he couldn't even admit it to himself, especially as an heir to a wealthy family. It would be a joke if it got out.
But after seeing the photo, Bruce was in a bad mood all afternoon.
Anna knocked and entered, bringing some documents. She accidentally glimpsed the photo.
A passionate kiss!
Their eyes locked!
In the car, Jeremy leaned in to kiss Sienna. She wrapped her arms around his neck, slightly lifting herself to meet his kiss. They looked completely in love, enjoying every moment.
Anna stifled a laugh, pretending to be casual. "Miss Hawkins' new boyfriend looks nice."
Bruce acted indifferent. "The second heir of the Cook family."
He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and leaned back in his leather chair, gently rocking.
After a while, he said softly, "I heard Jeremy's first love from abroad is back."
Anna smiled slightly.
She and Jeremy were schoolmates abroad, so she knew some of his personal affairs.
Rowan Blair, like Sienna, was stunningly beautiful.
Bruce tilted his head back, then chuckled. "Jeremy's taste hasn't changed. After all these years, it's time for a reunion, don't you think?"
Anna understood his meaning.
But she didn't agree. She said softly, "Mr. Taylor, Jeremy seems very serious about her."
Bruce pulled a car key from his drawer, a BMW he rarely used.
He handed the key to Anna. "Use this to get around. It's inconvenient to take the subway in high heels."
Anna took the key. "Thank you, Mr. Taylor. This is the first time you've been so considerate."
Bruce replied modestly, "I'll make sure to care for my employees more often. Now, get back to work and don't let anyone know."
