Chapter 733 Lola, Are You Here for an Ultrasound at the Hospital?
After Christmas Eve, Landon took Caitlyn on a trip.
He asked Eden to help take care of the kids.
Eden was initially a bit resistant, but when Katelyn gently called her "Grandma," Eden, now older and living alone, didn't feel so opposed to it, especially since the child wasn't Landon's.
Katelyn knew how to win her over.
She never competed with Caitlyn for attention. Katelyn seemed to instinctively understand that Landon's happiness meant a more complete family for her.
By New Year's, Landon and Caitlyn returned from their trip.
The family started unpacking.
Landon brought many gifts, but the most thoughtful and expensive ones were for Eden.
Eden, who had experienced wealth before, looked at the gifts hesitantly. She quietly told Caitlyn, "These must be worth a fortune, Caitlyn... this isn't right."
Caitlyn was helping Landon unpack. He had rushed to the office for an urgent matter, leaving her to handle things at home. She was sorting his clothes, hanging some up, and putting others in the laundry bag.
Hearing Eden, she straightened up, still holding one of Landon's shirts.
Caitlyn paused momentarily and said, "Just keep them, please."
Eden still felt uneasy. "These are too valuable. We can't repay this kindness."
Caitlyn hesitated, then bit her lip.
A mother knows her daughter best. Eden guessed something and tentatively asked, "Are you two planning to get married? What did he say, and what do you think?"
Caitlyn slowly placed the shirt into the laundry bag.
A look of confusion crossed her face, followed by a moment of clarity. She spoke softly, "Mom, I'm afraid you might think I'm weak. I know he's done something terrible, and it still makes me angry. Every girl's feelings are precious, but I love him... He's sincere now, and I don't want to dwell on the past. I want to start fresh with him."
Her eyes reddened slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Eden had anticipated this and had already accepted it. She didn't say much, just took the laundry bag from Caitlyn and helped her sort it out. Then she asked, "What about having kids? Have you discussed it with Landon? And what about Katelyn? This is a special situation."
Caitlyn nodded. "We've thought about it. He wants to wait a couple of years, but I think... we should have one soon."
Eden couldn't help but agree. "It's better to do it sooner. He's not getting any younger."
They talked for a while longer.
In the evening, Landon returned from the office, bringing his secretary along due to his busy schedule.
Eden personally served the meal.
She is starting to feel closer to her son-in-law.
Landon, feeling happy, was about to light a cigarette but thought better of it, thinking about how hard-won his happiness was. He got up to help, saying softly, "Mom, please sit down. I'll take care of it."
Eden's hand trembled.
For Caitlyn, she couldn't argue back, as that would only embarrass her.
Eden was at a loss for words.
Fortunately, Katelyn came over, taking her hand. "Grandma, sit with me."
Eden felt more at ease.
Nearby, Caitlyn was arranging a vase and overheard the conversation. Her cheeks flushed. Landon was shameless!
Unexpectedly, Jennifer arrived shortly after.
Though Landon was steady and independent, he still had his mother handle the marriage arrangements, which showed his seriousness about Caitlyn. Eden was surprised but also touched.
Eden worried about the people in Boston, but Jennifer said that it wasn't important.
This finally put Eden at ease.
After dinner, in the master bedroom on the second floor.
Caitlyn tidied up the bedroom. She turned and saw Landon sitting on the sofa, reviewing financial reports. It was the end of the year, and he was very busy.
She walked over and gently hugged him from behind.
"I have to go! I'll come back tomorrow!"
Landon held her hand, responding absentmindedly, but then he snapped back. "Why are you leaving? Stay here."
Caitlyn pressed her cheek to his, speaking softly, "My mom is going back. It wouldn't be right for me to stay. I'll come back tomorrow, okay?"
Landon thought for a moment and didn't push her.
He put down the report, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her for a while before saying softly, "Cherie made a list of gifts. If you and your mom think anything is missing, just get it. Don't worry about the cost."
Caitlyn replied, "Okay."
Tonight, their wedding was set. They would marry on Valentine's Day after the New Year.
It still felt unreal to her, but she didn't regret it.
After all these years of coming and going, she still couldn't forget him.
Cherie worked quickly. After New Year's, the entire Seattle elite received invitations to the Carter Group CEO's wedding. The bride was Caitlyn.
Jimmy was the most excited. "Damn! They're getting married! Landon pulled it off."
He looked at Johnny.
He asked Johnny to help him out, but when Johnny came, he didn't drink either; he just played on his phone and listened to him brag.
"Johnny, maybe you should take some lessons from Mr. Carter?"
Johnny glanced at him, and Jimmy didn't dare say more.
After the social event, Johnny returned to the villa, where he had once shared with Lola.
On the living room table was an invitation, which he received from Landon earlier that day.
They are scheduled to get married on February 14th, and they have now sent out the invitations.
It shows how happy Landon is!
Johnny leaned back, covering his face with his hand. Living alone, working alone, eating and sleeping alone... he was very lonely. Many people around him advised him to move on, find a new wife, or at least someone to keep him company.
In the past, he might have.
But after everything, especially seeing Lola covered in blood in the Sunset City villa... he knew he regretted it deeply.
He didn't want anyone else!
On the cold winter night, he didn't turn on the heat and coughed a few times.
The next day, he fell ill. After the breakfast meeting, Felicity took him to the hospital, accompanied by staff for a formal luncheon later.
In the VIP rest area of the hospital.
Johnny rested with his eyes closed, having just finished his check-up. Felicity handled the follow-up.
Under the fluorescent light, his features were striking.
He wore a dark turtleneck under a light gray coat, highlighting his good physique.
"Mr. Flores, you've lost quite a bit of weight lately."
A woman's gentle voice, as she draped her coat over him. Offering some concern for the boss, but this concern itself is crossing a boundary.
Johnny suddenly opened his eyes, frowning.
It was his new PR manager, Shelly Peterson, known for her social skills. But Johnny never expected her to use those skills on him.
He pushed the coat aside, about to reprimand her.
Then he saw Lola walk in.
Their eyes met, both surprised, especially Lola... She glanced at Johnny and the beautiful, gentle Shelly, then smiled faintly.
Shelly, sensing the situation, knew Johnny had no interest in her. With his ex-wife Lola present, staying would be pointless. She nodded and left.
Once she was gone, Johnny immediately explained.
"She's a company manager. There's nothing between us. We have a luncheon, so..."
Lola didn't listen to his explanation.
She calmly said, "You don't need to explain. Given our situation, it's normal for you to have a girlfriend... Johnny, let's move on and start new lives."
If they kept dwelling on the past, what was the point of the divorce?
Johnny seemed to understand her. He stopped trying to explain, just looking at her for a long time before softly asking, "Will you find a new love?"
Lola didn't answer directly, just lightly brushed her hair.
Johnny felt a bit lost.
At that moment, Nola walked in, surprised to see Johnny but quickly addressing Lola. "It's our turn, Ms. Hawkins. We can do the ultrasound now."
Lola stood up. "Okay."
But as she took a step, Johnny grabbed her wrist. She turned to look at him.
Johnny released her immediately.
He stared at her, his Adam's apple bobbing, and asked in a trembling voice, "Is it a prenatal check-up? Can I... see?"
He was afraid she'd refuse, afraid she'd embarrass him.
Lola considered it and said, "After the check-up, I'll have Nola bring you the results. If you want to see them in the future, you can contact Nola."
She spoke in a dignified and gentle manner as if they had amicably parted ways.
Johnny's fingers trembled, curling in his coat pocket. After a long pause, he said, "Okay. I'll wait here."
Lola nodded and left.
Outside, Shelly was still there. As Johnny's subordinate, she had failed to win his favor but still had to do her job well. Otherwise, why would Johnny pay her millions a year?
As Lola walked out, Shelly sized her up, feeling competitive.
She wanted to know she wasn't inferior to Lola.
But looking at Lola, she realized she had lost... because Lola didn't even glance at her. What Shelly cared about, Lola didn't care about at all.
Shelly stood there, watching Lola leave.
Felicity returned, holding Johnny's test results. "Mr. Flores, the doctor suggests you stay in the hospital for two days to rest."
Johnny glanced at the results and said, "Just give me an IV."
Felicity hesitated but didn't argue.
