Chapter 429 I Hate You!

Andrew, even though he was hurting, gave Gavin a gentle pat on the head.

Then he glanced over at Chloe.

Even though they had split up, there was still something between them. Like Patrick said, they still had to act like family.

Chloe's eyes were all red. "Come in!"

Andrew nodded. As he walked in, he clung to the wall, with Gavin carefully helping him.

Andrew plopped down on the couch. Chloe poured him a glass of water. Then Andrew said, "You've done a great job raising Gavin."

Chloe gave a faint smile. If he wasn't so sick, she might've already kicked him out.

Andrew knew what she was thinking, but he didn't want to leave.

As she looked down, his eyes drifted to her belly. Still flat.

He checked the time; it had only been a bit over a month.

The vibe was kinda awkward.

Andrew felt a bit embarrassed, and then a sharp pain hit his stomach, making him clutch it. The back of his hand was covered in needle marks.

He was always so elegant and handsome, but now he looked worn out. Chloe's heart ached, thinking that if they were still married, she'd be by his side, taking care of him.

Even if she was clumsy, she could still make him happy.

Now, she could only politely ask, "Did you have surgery?"

Andrew softly replied, "Yeah."

He didn't say much about his condition but called Gavin over. Gavin actually missed him a lot and softly called out, "Daddy."

Andrew pulled out two candies from his pocket.

Both Chloe and Gavin loved sweets.

Gavin looked at his dad, carefully unwrapped a piece of candy, and popped it in his mouth.

Andrew patted his head. "Gavin, give one to Mommy."

Gavin obediently ran over. A piece of candy landed in Chloe's palm, and she recognized the familiar packaging.

Back in the day, she often skipped meals to lose weight, which sometimes led to hypoglycemia. Andrew always carried a few candies in his pocket and would feed her when they were alone.

Remembering those times made Chloe feel especially uncomfortable. She whispered something before heading into the bedroom.

Gavin looked a bit uneasy. "Mommy seems to be crying!"

Andrew gazed towards the bedroom, patted his son's head, and slowly walked in himself.

Chloe stood by the window with her back to him.

Andrew walked over slowly. He wanted to hug her, but he didn't have the right.

Andrew's voice was hoarse. "Why are you crying?"

Chloe didn't speak at first. After a long time, she choked out, "Andrew, what is this? We've already divorced. Gavin and I need to start a new life."

She suddenly turned around, her face covered in tears. "And now, you try to comfort me with a piece of candy? What is that supposed to mean? I hate you!"

Chloe didn't regret loving him. She hated him because they had endured so many years and could have been happy. No one ever left a deeper mark on her life than Andrew.

After Chloe finished speaking, her nose was all red from emotion. Still, she looked stunning.

Andrew wanted to hug her so bad. He held back and softly said, "Please don't cry, okay?"

But she couldn't help it. Only now did Chloe realize just how messy emotions could be. She forced herself to calm down.

Andrew reached out, like he wanted to wipe away her tears.

She looked up at him.

In the end, he lowered his hand and asked, "Have you been doing okay these days?"

Chloe turned her face away, feeling embarrassed.

What was the point of asking that?

Andrew gazed at her face. He knew it wasn't right after the divorce and that he had no reason to stick around any longer.

He was in a lot of pain, but he kept his cool and gently said, "I need to go back to the hospital."

Chloe nodded. She looked at him and said, "Let me take you."

Andrew refused. He didn't want her to see him in such a miserable state. Luckily, the doorbell rang, and Nathan had come over out of concern.

Chloe opened the door.

Nathan, being sharp, immediately noticed her red eyes.

He habitually tried to comfort her. "What's wrong?"

Chloe didn't want others to see her like this. She softly replied, "Nothing. Nathan, you're here to pick him up, right?"

Nathan replied smoothly, "Andrew misses you both so much. I hope we didn't mess up Gavin's school schedule."

Chloe forced a smile.

Then Nathan quickly went to support Andrew and softly said, "You should take care of yourself. Adeline is really upset with you. She'll definitely give you an earful later."

Andrew was in great pain but forced himself to pat Gavin's head. "Mind your mom."

Gavin's eyes were filled with tears.

Chloe stood watching them leave. Just as Andrew was about to step out, she suddenly asked Nathan, "What illness does he have?"

Nathan looked at her calmly and said, "Just a common stomach thing."

Chloe believed him.

Once outside, Andrew clutched his abdomen, his forehead covered in sweat from the pain.

Nathan looked at him with deep concern. "Why put yourself through this? You can see them anytime. Your priority should be to get better."

In the elevator, Andrew leaned against the wall. At that moment, he really wanted a cigarette to perk himself up, but all his smokes had been taken away.

Andrew smiled faintly. He couldn't see her whenever he wanted.

Back at the hospital, Adeline gave him a good scolding.

After Andrew left, Chloe was in the bathroom with morning sickness. Gavin was waiting at the door. He could sense that there was a baby in mom's belly.

Chloe softly said, "Let's get you to school."

On the way, Gavin hesitated for a long time before carefully saying, "Mom, can I go to the hospital to see Dad? He's sick and looks like he's in a lot of pain."

Chloe softly replied, "I'll take you during the break."

Gavin leaned against her, showing a faint smile. He really missed his dad.

Saturday rolled around.

Chloe decided to visit Charlotte at the hospital and took Gavin along.

Early in the morning, Gavin was buzzing with excitement.

He even prepped a gift for his dad.

The car quickly pulled up at the hospital.

Gavin, clutching the gift, bolted towards the ward.

Chloe, being pregnant, couldn't keep up.

At the door of the ward, Gavin was about to burst in and call out to his dad but suddenly stopped. He frowned, looking unhappy.

Chloe found it odd. She peeked inside the ward and was a bit taken aback.

Andrew was leaning against the headboard.

Beside the bed, a strange servant was with a little girl, flipping through a fairy tale book. Andrew looked at the little girl gently.

It was Molly, Celeste's daughter.

Andrew felt sorry for her. He took her in but couldn't give her a home.

After a moment of silence, he looked up and saw Chloe and Gavin at the door.

Kids can't hide their feelings. Gavin had come over all happy, but seeing Molly made him annoyed. He placed the gift on the table and ran off.

Chloe glanced at Andrew, then chased after him. "Gavin!"

Gavin started crying. Frederick had told him that boys shouldn't cry easily, but he couldn't help it. That was his dad, after all! Chloe felt heartbroken.

She went over and hugged him, giving him a kiss. "How about we come back another time?"

Gavin's eyes were filled with tears. He bit his red lips. "I don't want to come back again!"

Chloe didn't blame him. She wiped away his tears. "How about we go see Sienna at Charlotte's place?"

Gavin forced a smile.

Chloe kissed him again. "Alright, you're little men."

They left. Andrew slowly walked out of the ward, holding onto the wall, quietly watching them leave. He knew they were hurt.

He had thought about explaining, but it would be pointless.

He couldn't give her anything now.

He remembered how confident he used to be, but now he didn't even dare to admit he loved her.

The servant knew she had caused trouble, apologizing repeatedly. "Mr. Devereux, I'm sorry. It's my fault. I shouldn't have brought Molly to see you!"

Andrew remained silent, overwhelmed with heartache. He had hoped to give Chloe happiness, but he had failed.

Landon's mother, Jennifer, had come to visit Charlotte, and Landon was there too. She looked at Sienna and liked her very much, buying many good things for the baby.

Landon sat on the sofa, feeling uneasy. Sienna was indeed adorable. But thinking that she was Frederick's child made him uncomfortable.

Jennifer smiled and asked, "Don't you want to hold her?"

Before Landon could speak, Jennifer had already placed the baby in his arms.

Her bright eyes were looking at him, and somehow, Landon's heart was gently moved. He softly asked, "Why are you looking at me?"

Charlotte laughed and said, "Babies can't see clearly yet. They can only see things within 8 inches."

Landon played with the baby. Her tender cheeks were just too cute.

At that moment, Chloe arrived with Gavin. Seeing her, Landon habitually said, "Here comes our brave Chloe!"

Chloe casually replied, "Can't compare to you."

After speaking, she looked at Charlotte. Charlotte guessed it had something to do with Andrew.

Jennifer, being considerate, wanted to take Landon and leave.

Landon was reluctant to go. Clutching the baby, he insisted, "I'll be fine right here!"

Chloe blushed with anger.

Charlotte went over and gently hugged Chloe, softly asking, "Did you visit Andrew?"

Chloe didn't want to mention Molly. Gavin, hugging Charlotte's leg, couldn't help but speak up.

Charlotte knew that Chloe still had feelings for Andrew; otherwise, she wouldn't be so upset. She was at a loss for how to comfort her.

The door to the ward opened, and Frederick walked in. As soon as he entered, he saw Chloe on the verge of tears. Charlotte signaled to him, and he understood. He picked up Gavin and kissed him. "Here to see your cousin?"

Gavin nodded. Only Sienna could comfort him now.

Frederick naturally took Sienna from Landon's arms. The baby was hungry, so he made some milk for her. Then Jennifer left with Landon. With only family left in the ward, Chloe eventually shed tears.

Frederick fed the baby while talking to Chloe.

Charlotte watched quietly from the side. She thought, 'No matter how close Chloe and I are, it can't compare to Frederick. They are siblings.'

So, when Chloe was about to leave, Charlotte said, "Frederick, why don't you see her off? Have a meal with Chloe before you come back."

Frederick put the sleeping baby in the crib. He couldn't help but kiss her again.

"Alright!"

Frederick gently said, "Get some rest!"

Chloe exclaimed, "You two are so mushy!"

Frederick grabbed the car keys and picked up Gavin. "Let's grab a bite!"

In the car, Frederick turned to Chloe. He softly asked, "Did you visit Andrew?"

Chloe nodded.

He reached out and gently patted her head, saying, "You should learn from Charlotte and be tougher! No matter how important Andrew is, he's not more important than your baby. Gavin is waiting to be a big brother! Look how much he wants a sister."

Chloe was on the verge of tears. Perhaps only in front of Frederick could she completely let go and not pretend to be strong.

Chloe gently leaned on Frederick's shoulder. She spoke, "Frederick, I've been having dreams these days! When I wake up, I can't tell if I'm in the past or the present. I always feel like I'm still with him."

Chloe struggled to let go, but she forced herself to.

Frederick felt heartbroken. If Chloe knew how seriously ill Andrew was, she would undoubtedly go back to him without hesitation!

But that would be so cruel to Chloe. As her brother, he couldn't bear it.
