Chapter 250 Charlotte, Be My True Wife

She cocked her head and teased, "Chloe's got a mind of her own! Maybe we shouldn't make up just for Lola."

Frederick shot her a look.

He tapped the gas, drove a bit, then grinned. "Are we cool now? It's been two months, and we haven't even had any intimacy, Charlotte. You call this making up?"

Charlotte kept quiet.

Arguing with him never got her anywhere.

They both went silent, their hearts heavy with old memories.

At the red light, Frederick gently grabbed her hand and whispered, "Join the anniversary celebration with me, okay?"

Charlotte gave a soft "hmm."

She wasn't heartless; she could tell Frederick had changed a lot. Towards her and the kid.

Even with the whole Andrew and Chloe thing, he’d been holding back.

They lived together and had a kid, so Charlotte figured she’d be nicer to him. So, even though she knew what he was aiming for on anniversary night, she agreed!

As for the past, she left it to time to heal.

Charlotte didn't realize her soft response meant the world to Frederick.

He could wait; he’d gone three years without a woman. Plus, he saw her every day now. The big thing was that she consented to be intimate with him and trusted him!

They picked up Lola.

Frederick got in the car and, while buckling up, said, "I've been swamped lately and haven't spent much time with Lola. Let's go out for dinner!"

Charlotte patted Lola's head. "You wanna go?"

Lola stretched her legs and yawned. "Daddy wants a candlelight dinner with Mommy."

The vibe got a bit awkward.

Charlotte really didn't get how Lola knew so much!

Her eyes met Frederick's in the rearview mirror, and he lazily said, "Kids all get it these days. Don't stress!"

Lola kept chatting. She told Charlotte everything her kindergarten friends said.

Of course, she talked the most about Johnny.

Charlotte couldn't help but worry.

She felt she needed to talk to Frederick; she was scared his behavior might mess Lola up.

Half an hour later, Frederick parked the car.

Charlotte got out and realized it was the restaurant she had invested in.

She looked at Frederick.

Frederick leaned against the car door and smirked. "I see other folks going out, and it's always the wife who pays. Charlotte, you wouldn't mind me scoring a free meal, would you?"

Charlotte didn't say anything.

Frederick walked a bit ahead and dropped his voice. "Yeah, I did it on purpose! I want everyone to know you're Mrs. Hawkins, so those guys eyeing you back off."

Charlotte had seen this coming and coolly replied, "I'm not looking to get mixed up with other men!"

With that, she went to get Lola out of the car.

Frederick wrapped his arm around her waist. "I got it!"

Lola hopped out, looking annoyed. 'Daddy just wants to date! But holding Daddy's hand with one hand and Mommy's with the other felt pretty good!'

Walking into the restaurant, Frederick got what he wanted.

The staff and regulars all knew Charlotte had a husband and a kid.

Frederick even joined the staff group chat.

Charlotte just found him boring and let him be.

She cut the steak for Lola and gently taught her how to use a knife and fork. Lola was picking it up well, and Charlotte felt a softness in her heart looking at that fair little face.

Putting aside her feelings for Frederick, having a life with Lola was what she wanted.

Lola needed careful attention. But for Charlotte, she wasn't a burden; she was a salvation!

Frederick was in a great mood after marking his territory, but it didn't last long.

Syeattel was big, but they happened to run into Oliver.

Oliver wasn't alone; he had a girlfriend with him, rumored to be the daughter of a Boston conglomerate.

Oliver saw them too and paused. "Mr. Hawkins, Charlotte!"

He was poised and courteous, and Frederick, of course, wouldn't act impulsively.

He put his arm around Charlotte, stood up, and smiled slightly. "Oliver, long time no see! Bringing your girlfriend for dinner?"

Oliver nodded. His gaze fell on Charlotte's face but quickly shifted to Lola.

Lola looked a lot like Charlotte.

He couldn't help but lovingly pick her up, and before he could kiss her, Lola kissed him first and called him sweetly!

Oliver's girlfriend also came over.

Lola kissed her too.

Oliver's heart melted. He softly said, "She's very cute!"

Frederick smiled. "Yeah, she is! Charlotte and I are talking about giving her a sibling."

Oliver's eyes darkened.

Charlotte was speechless. 'When did I agree to that?'

Frederick was particularly generous today. He invited Oliver and his girlfriend to join them. Charlotte admired him, watching him calmly discuss stocks and investments with Oliver, and even arranging to go out for a smoke together.

Oliver's girlfriend said enviously, "You two have such a great relationship!"

Charlotte gave a faint smile.

She didn't get too close to Oliver's girlfriend, nor did she want to develop any kind of female friendship with her.

She knew Frederick too well.

If she truly cared for Oliver, she would keep her distance.

Outside the restaurant, the two men stood together calmly for the first time in years, smoking.

Frederick lightly patted Oliver's shoulder. "Your girlfriend is nice!"

Oliver exhaled a slow puff of smoke and smiled faintly. "Is this consolation for a loser?"

He turned his head, staring at Frederick. "When I went to Boston, was it you who secretly introduced me to my first business deal?"

Frederick didn't answer. He quietly smoked, and after a long time, he said bitterly, "Back then, because of you, Charlotte hated me! She genuinely considered you a friend!"

Even now, Frederick cared.

He knew deep down that Charlotte never liked Oliver. Every time Oliver was by her side, it was because Frederick had wronged her. Frederick should blame himself.

So, he compensated Oliver.

Oliver finished his cigarette, threw it on the ground, and stomped it out.

Frederick had taught him a lesson: pursuing without strength was actually a burden to a woman.

He walked back towards the restaurant.

Frederick watched his back and suddenly felt that Oliver was very much like his younger self.

After dinner, everyone exchanged pleasantries and bid each other farewell.

In the car on the way home, Charlotte didn't say much.

Frederick, mindful of Lola's presence, also kept quiet, holding back his words.

When they got out of the car, Lola was asleep.

Frederick carried Lola out of the car, his eyes full of tenderness, and Charlotte followed behind him.

In the children's room, Frederick laid the little one on the bed, and Charlotte changed Lola into comfortable pajamas, then bent down to wipe her little hands and feet.

Frederick hugged her slender waist from behind, his body pressed against her thin back. "Can we talk?"

Charlotte slightly turned her face. "Talk about what?"

"Oliver! I'm angry, Charlotte!"

When he returned to the restaurant, seeing that Charlotte and Oliver's girlfriend were still in the "hello" phase, he knew it was Charlotte's way of silently protecting Oliver, and Oliver, to some extent, reciprocated.

This tacit understanding made Frederick extremely jealous.

He was never one to hide his feelings, so he spoke directly.

Charlotte smiled lightly. "It's all in the past. Why bring it up again? Besides, there was never any possibility between us!"

Frederick pressed against her back, his hands wandering for a moment.

In the end, he carried her back to the master bedroom.

Charlotte, afraid of waking Lola, half-heartedly resisted.

In the bedroom, Frederick pinned her to the foot of the bed, interlocking their fingers, and kissed her passionately.

After a long kiss, Charlotte turned her face away.

Frederick panted softly in her ear. "Charlotte, I've thought about why I care so much about Oliver. I never felt this way about Ethan."

Charlotte looked at him. "Why?"

Frederick freed one hand, gently tracing her delicate features, and whispered, "Because he treats you well! No man has ever treated you better, including me at the time, so I'm very jealous!"

Charlotte laughed in exasperation. "Frederick, then why don't you let go of me?"

He stared at her for a long time before hoarsely saying, "You're back, but it feels like you're not really back! You act as Lola's mom, but it feels like you're not my wife. Charlotte, I'm not satisfied!"

Charlotte sincerely said to him, "Tomorrow, I'll go with you to see a therapist!"

Frederick whispered in her ear, "Charlotte, you're the one with the problem, not me!"

He lightly bit the tender skin behind her ear. "I just want you to want me! Like before, when you saw me, you wanted to be intimate. Charlotte, do you know why we haven't had any intimacy for so long? Because you don't want to. You only care about Lola. Even if I try to seduce you, you get aroused only because you want it, not because you want me!"

Charlotte was speechless.

Frederick unbuckled his belt and gently wrapped it around her wrists.

Charlotte was stunned. "Frederick, what are you trying to do?"

He pulled off his tie, kissed her cheek, and smiled gently. "Nothing! I just want you to feel me!"

Then, her eyes were blindfolded.

She couldn't see, and all her senses were heightened.

Frederick kissed her for a while, then knelt beside her and played a recording on his phone, placing it gently on the pillow.

"I set it to loop."

Charlotte listened for a few seconds, her face turning red and hot!

It was clearly a recording from years ago when they were in Bostan.

She bit her lip and finally cursed, "Frederick, you bastard! You're the one with the problem!"

Frederick whispered in her ear, "I'm angry! I want to bully you, and see you break down for me."

He said casually, "I'll be in the study, and I'll come back to check on you later."
