Chapter 399 Can't Let Her Get Away with This

Charlotte dropped her gaze and flashed a tiny smile. "When it's all said and done."

When she looked down, you could see this faint blue mark at the corner of her eye. It really stood out.

Landon had been with loads of gorgeous women but never really cared about any of them.

But Charlotte's face? It made him do a double-take.

After a beat, he realized he was staring and rasped out, "I believe you."

Charlotte strutted over to the car.

Landon beat her to it and opened the door.

Charlotte was a bit taken aback. She looked up and met his eyes. There was something there, some emotion. Before hopping in, she murmured, "Landon, some things just aren't meant to be."

With that, she slid into the car.

The door shut, and the fancy black limo rolled away.

Landon stood there, lighting up a smoke.

Matthew was about to head out too. When he came downstairs, he saw Landon puffing away in the night breeze and couldn't help but say, "You can mess around with Tina, but you can't marry her!"

Landon snorted.

He casually flicked the cigarette butt and crushed it under his shoe. "Chill out; when it comes to mess around with women, I'm way better than you."

Matthew's face twisted in anger.

Just then, his car pulled up, and Landon opened the door for him.

Matthew shot him a look but didn't say anything and got in.

Inside, the driver, Colin Brown, commented, "Landon looks pretty lively."

Matthew replied coolly, "He resents me! Otherwise, he wouldn't refuse to come home and take over the family business. I know what he's thinking; he just wants me to make it official for his mother, but Colin, is it that easy for me to give her this title? If I do, wouldn't it be like admitting I cheated back then?"

Even though his wife had passed, his father-in-law was still around and very influential.

His father-in-law wouldn't let him off easy if he granted her the title.

Matthew felt he had his reasons, so he and Landon had been at odds for years.

Colin stayed quiet.

After a moment, Matthew said in a low voice, "Now that he's close to Charlotte, I'm relieved! I often hear Sawyer talk about Charlotte, and Brian has changed a lot because of her!"

The driver chimed in with a few words.

Matthew felt a bit better.

Charlotte got home. She got a call from Matthew, asking her to keep an eye on Landon.

Matthew said, "I haven't dealt with Tina, but Charlotte, I trust you. Please take good care of Landon for me, and I'll be grateful forever."

Charlotte hadn't even changed out of her gown yet.

She stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room, a faint smile on her face. "Don't worry, Matthew. I will."

Matthew went on and on.

By the time she hung up, ten minutes had passed. Charlotte rubbed her neck. "Socializing is such a drag!"

Pregnancy with this one was a breeze compared to her first two, but anyway, her stamina wasn't what it used to be.

Just as she was about to take off her makeup and hit the bath, Frederick came back from putting the kids to bed and saw her like this.

"You're wiped out." He came over, helped her sit down, and gently massaged her neck.

Charlotte leaned back against the sofa, enjoying her husband's touch, and hummed softly, "A little."

Frederick massaged her for a bit.

Charlotte said softly, "Tina took the bait. We're almost there."

"Really?" Frederick drawled lazily. "Mrs. Hawkins, tell me more."

Charlotte gently held his hand, her tone icy. "Tomorrow, I'll have Jenna place a bet on Landon, 200 million dollars."

That way, Tina's doubts would mostly vanish, and she'd be willing to follow suit.

Frederick's eyebrows shot up.

His long fingers gently brushed Charlotte's cheek, and he asked in a low, raspy voice, "A losing deal? That ain't your style!"

Charlotte gave a sly smile. "Before the channel closes, I'll throw another billion into Brian."

The money Tina invested? Yeah, Charlotte was gonna snatch it all back.

Frederick had figured it out early on.

But he still couldn't help but be in awe, partly by his wife's beauty and partly by her smarts.

He leaned in and gave a playful nip to the soft spot behind her ear.

His hands started to wander.

Charlotte blushed. She leaned into him, her voice just as soft. "Frederick, we're talking business here!"

"Business is done."

He scooped her up and headed for the bedroom. "This outfit looks amazing!"

Charlotte knew him too well.

She was pregnant, so he wouldn't push it too far, just using the moment to get a little closer.

Their eyes locked.

Even though they were so familiar with each other, they still got butterflies.

Frederick lowered his head and lightly bit her lips. "Don't look at me like that; you know I can't resist."

Charlotte wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.

In the end, they didn't make it to the bath but ended up at the foot of the bed.

Having been married to him for a while, Charlotte knew Frederick liked making love at the end of the bed.

It was convenient and just felt right.

Her eyes were seductive as she gently unbuttoned his blue shirt, whispering, "You've been working hard lately; I think you deserve a little reward."

Frederick's eyes darkened.

He gently caressed her delicate face. "Mrs. Hawkins, you're killing me with that charm."

Charlotte brushed aside her golden hair.

She held her husband's handsome face and kissed him. "Aren't you in the mood tonight?"

No man would refuse his wife's teasing, and Frederick definitely wouldn't. He loved this side of Charlotte.

After a night of indulgence, there was a white rose and a small gift on the pillow when Charlotte woke up.

She couldn't help but feel sweet.

Frederick didn't go to the office but stayed home with the kids.

He rarely socialized.

Charlotte occasionally asked him to go out, but he wasn't interested. After a few times, Charlotte stopped asking, but she noticed her socializing had also decreased.

The winter morning sun shone on the bed, making it cozy.

Charlotte lay there for a bit, then got up with the blanket and called Jenna.

Invest 200 million dollars?

Jenna's jaw dropped. When did Charlotte become so reckless?

Charlotte knew what she was thinking and smiled faintly. "Just do it!"

Jenna nodded.

She immediately transferred 200 million dollars to the account of the club where Landon was, betting on Landon. Of course, this insider info was unknown to others, and most of them still bet on Brian.

Charlotte's 200 million dollars shook up the entire market.

Especially Tina, who found out it was Charlotte who invested.

Tina had been on the fence.

Charlotte's 200 million dollars reassured her, and she set up a meeting with Elizabeth.

In the café, Tina got straight to the point. "You hear about Charlotte's investment?"

Elizabeth took off her leather gloves and said coyly, "I've been busy entertaining folks and haven't kept up. Why? Does Ms. Russell want a piece of the club's money? Can she even care about that cash?"

Tina shot her a look. Then she gently stirred her coffee and said softly, "This money comes quicker than doing real business! No wonder she's got her eye on it! Someone as cautious as her dropping 200 million means the info's solid."

Tina wasn't dumb.

Last night, Charlotte stole the show at the banquet.

Charlotte held a high status in the upper circles, especially since she was still so young.

Tina was both envious and jealous.

She whispered to Elizabeth, "Last night, she had a private chat with Landon. I think she got some insider info, so I wanna invest too!"

Elizabeth gave a sly smile. "That's it?"

She then dropped some news on Tina. "On race day, Brian won't even show up. Do you think he has a shot at winning? And the other competitors? Landon's already smoked them."

"Really?"

"Why would I lie to you? What do you think I've been up to these past few days?"

Elizabeth's smile faded. "I've put in a lot of effort, and I need to get some benefits from it!"

She said she had invested 80 million dollars, all her money, on Landon.

"If things go well, it can double," Elizabeth said.

Tina wanted to light up a cigarette.

Doubling the money was super tempting; making movies couldn't earn that kind of cash.

She looked at Elizabeth.

Elizabeth casually brushed her hair aside. "That's how this game works. Those who are brave and willing to take risks often hit it big, while those who are timid and afraid to take risks end up with nothing! Ms. Russell has invested; what are you scared of?"

Tina stayed quiet.

When she got back to her place, she smoked for most of the day and finally called her financial advisor, pulling out all 400 million dollars from her account to invest in Landon.

Success would mean doubling the money.

Failure would mean losing everything.

But Tina was confident she would win; she had so much info!

When Tina invested 400 million dollars, Charlotte got the news right away. She held her phone in silence for a long time.

Tina's fate was sealed.

She wouldn't see that money again!

Charlotte softly said to the person on the other end of the phone, "Got it!"

She hung up the phone.

She asked Jared to take her to the cemetery.

Jared hesitated when he heard the place. "Frederick won't be happy if he finds out."

Charlotte gave a faint smile. "I'll talk to him."

She had been planning for so long, and Tina finally took the bait. She was happy.

She wanted to share the news with Ethan, to let him know and rest in peace.

Jared was still talking.

As they were leaving, Lola followed.

Charlotte decided to bring her along.

In the morning, the weather was bright, but it was gloomy at the cemetery.

Charlotte held Lola's hand.

Several bodyguards followed behind.

When they approached Ethan's grave, they saw Daisy and Jenny cleaning the tombstone.

Charlotte held a bouquet of lilies and walked over, gently placing them down.

Lola stood obediently by her side.

She recognized the uncle in the photo, the one who wanted her to call him dad.

Daisy and Jenny saw Charlotte coming and stood up, especially Daisy, whose expression was complicated. "Why did you come here while pregnant?"

She then touched Lola's head. "She's grown so big!"

She was emotional.

If Charlotte had been with Ethan back then, the child would be this big too.

Such a cute little girl should be calling her grandma.

Just thinking about it brought sadness.

Charlotte also touched Lola's head and said softly, "I came to see him."

Jenny, with tears in her eyes, said, "Charlotte, only you remember Ethan."

Charlotte knew Jenny had been having a rough time these past few years. She didn't hold any grudges about the past and said softly, "The coroner found that he drank a drug with stimulating effects before the car accident."

Ethan was last with Tina. They had been intimate!

Tina knew he shouldn't drive but didn't say anything.

In other words, Ethan was indirectly killed by Tina.

The Carter family mother and daughter were stunned.

They had never known this.

Charlotte turned to look at Ethan's photo and whispered, "Including the accidents involving me and Gabriel; it's all connected to her."

Daisy said sternly, "She can't get away with this! Charlotte, you can't let her get away with this!"

She was so agitated that she wanted to kneel before Charlotte. "I beg you; you must deal with her! Ethan suffered so much. He was so pitiful!"

Jenny held her mother, also in tears.

Tina was truly vicious!

Charlotte helped Daisy up and smiled faintly. "It will be over soon!"

Daisy and Jenny were slightly stunned.

They were still teary-eyed, staring blankly at Charlotte.

Charlotte had been in love with Ethan for four years.

They knew Charlotte very well, gentle and soft, but the Charlotte in front of them was completely different. Daisy was stunned for a long time and dumbly echoed, "Yes, her good life is about to end!"

She wanted to thank Charlotte again.

Charlotte shook her head.

She said nothing because what she had with Ethan was too complicated to explain.

Frederick found out about Charlotte's visit to the cemetery anyway. He didn't blame her, just worried that it was dangerous there and might affect his precious Sienna.

Charlotte sat on the sofa in the living room, holding a cup of hot milk.

She smiled. "How is she that precious? We did it so many times last night and she was just fine."

Frederick wanted to argue a bit more.

But he was stunned.

Was this something Charlotte would say?

He looked at her and chuckled softly, lightly tapping her nose.

Charlotte looked up at him, calm and composed, with a hint of feminine charm, very alluring.

Frederick only regretted having too many kids at home!

Some things were just inconvenient with them around.

Charlotte leaned against him and softly promised, "Once this is over, we'll have our time, okay?"

Frederick smiled ambiguously.

The next day was the final F1 winter race.

Frederick accompanied Charlotte, naturally in the best box.

Coincidentally, across from them were Tina and Elizabeth.

Tina was very confident. Last night, she had met with Landon, who, though still impatient with her, revealed that Brian wouldn't show up.

At this moment, she wore sunglasses, just waiting to collect her money.

At 10 o'clock, the betting was about to close.

Charlotte said to Jenna beside her, "Bet 1 billion dollars on Brian!"

Jenna was slightly stunned.

Frederick said indifferently, "Bet 1 billion dollars on Brian for me too. I want to make money with Charlotte."

Charlotte was both amused and annoyed.

Jenna glanced at them and still placed the 2 billion dollar bet.

She thought, 'If Brian wins, all the money will go to Frederick!'

After she finished, she closed the investment portal!

Tina had some connections and immediately got the news of the 2 billion dollar bet.

Someone had bet 2 billion dollars on Brian!

How could that be?

Wasn't Brian not participating because of his leg injury?

Tina's heart trembled, her eyes red, as Brian walked out of the room, wearing his signature helmet.
