Chapter 306 He Really Wanted Her
The lights were low.
Frederick's face was all shadowy and hard to read; he'd just acted on a whim. If Charlotte hadn't stepped in, he would've already had his way with her.
But what good would that do? Just having her body? What would that even mean?
It'd be just a quick fix, nothing more.
He wanted more than that, way more.
Charlotte's hands were shaking as she buttoned up her clothes.
Without looking back, she headed upstairs, almost tripping 'cause her legs were like jelly.
Frederick didn't stop her.
He didn't even bother checking on the kids; his head was all over the place.
When he got into the car, he lit up a cigarette.
A few days ago, he'd decided to call it quits, just like Charlotte suggested. Maybe splitting up would be better for both of them.
But he couldn't picture actually letting go. 'Will Charlotte develop feelings for those young guys who persistently chase after her?'
Frederick sat in the car, puffing away.
The smoke filled the car, making his face all hazy.
He went through four or five smokes before he gently hit the gas and left the villa. The bodyguards at the gate gave him some weird looks.
Late at night, Frederick rolled up to Hawkins Mansion.
Patrick was still up, clearly waiting for him.
Frederick walked in, plopped down on the couch, and let out a big sigh.
Patrick shot him a look and snapped, "Don't you have your own place? Why you gotta crash here?"
Frederick closed his eyes a bit. "Chloe's at home too."
Patrick scoffed. "That's different."
Frederick chuckled.
Patrick stared at him, then finally said, "Ever since you split with Charlotte, your mom's been crying a lot. Look at you, how useless can you be!"
Frederick zoned out a bit and softly asked, "Dad, do you want us to get back together?"
Patrick cleared his throat. He spoke slowly, "That's not it! Whether you get back together or not doesn't really matter. Your mom and I think if you moved out, maybe Charlotte would come back home."
Then they could be with the grandkids!
Frederick couldn't help but laugh. "Dad, Charlotte's not coming back!"
Patrick glared at him. After a bit, he got up and headed upstairs, shaking his head. "You might as well lose all your memory and not come home!"
Frederick leaned back on the couch.
The light was too bright, and it bugged him, so he covered his eyes.
When he was alone, he couldn't stop thinking about what happened earlier.
Both he and Charlotte were grown-ups with strong desires, and stopping halfway was rough for both.
He really wanted her!
He couldn't quite explain what was so great about her.
He just purely wanted to have her!
Chloe slowly came downstairs, holding her phone.
She wanted to go outside to make a call. Andrew had called, and she didn't dare answer upstairs, afraid her parents would hear, but she didn't expect to see Frederick downstairs.
Chloe hung up the phone. She sat next to Frederick and asked eagerly, "Frederick! Are you still thinking about Charlotte?"
Frederick reached out and put his arm around Chloe's shoulder.
Chloe leaned on his shoulder; it had been a long time since the siblings had been this close. She was soft and gentle, just like when they were kids.
After leaning for a while, Frederick rasped, "Tell me about Charlotte and me!"
Chloe looked confused. "Why are you asking this?"
"Just spill it!"
Chloe had always been tight with Charlotte, and Charlotte had shared a lot with her.
Frederick listened quietly.
It was four in the morning.
Chloe's mouth was dry, and she was dead tired. "Frederick, that's all!"
Frederick patted her head and gently said, "You go get some sleep!"
Chloe was worried. "Frederick, what's up with you today?"
Frederick smiled but didn't say a word.
He sat downstairs for another half hour. As dawn broke, he went to his room. He sat at the foot of the bed and opened a notebook.
Yeah, he had made a copy of the diary.
He flipped through what "Frederick" had left, piecing it together with what Chloe had said.
It all made sense.
The next day, Frederick was signing papers at Wise Counsel Law Firm. Cherie was about to distribute them when Frederick called her, "Cherie, can you help me find an address?"
Cherie was surprised. "Mr. Hawkins, are you working overtime?"
Frederick loosened his tie and coughed softly. "No! It's Charlotte's mom! Does she still live in Seattle?"
Cherie smiled. "Yes, I know her address! I often deliver stuff there for Ms. Russell!"
She jotted down the address for Frederick.
An hour later, Frederick, carrying a bunch of stuff, rang the doorbell of Maria's apartment.
"Who is it?" Maria came to the door and was stunned. "Frederick."
Frederick smiled as he walked in, warmly saying, "Mom, I came to see you!"
Even though Frederick and Charlotte were divorced, their history was complicated, and Maria couldn't be cold. "I'm glad to see you, but why bring all this stuff? I haven't even finished what Charlotte bought me!"
What she really wanted to ask was how they were doing now!
Frederick took off his coat and hung it on the rack.
He naturally changed into indoor slippers and squatted down to open a package. "It's not food! It's a foot massager. I heard from Cherie that this brand is great for leg pain. I'll fill it with water for you to try!"
Frederick said and went to the bathroom to fill it with water.
Maria was stunned.
She secretly went to her room and sent a Facebook message to Charlotte: [Did you and Frederick get back together? He came to see me.]
Just after sending it, she looked up to see Frederick standing at the door.
Maria smiled awkwardly.
Frederick smiled. "Mom, we haven't reconciled! I just came to see you today."
He gently helped Maria, very tenderly. "Come and check the water temperature! If it's not right, I'll change it!"
Maria was overwhelmed by Frederick's tenderness!
Frederick was good-looking, and when he sincerely wanted to please someone, no one could resist.
But Maria also loved her daughter, and after some thought, she said, "Frederick, I'm glad you came, but regarding you and Charlotte, I still have to respect her wishes!"
Frederick gently massaged her calf and smiled. "Mom, what are you thinking? I just want to talk to you and learn about Charlotte's childhood!"
Maria's heart softened.
She thought of the past, raising Charlotte with William.
She got quite emotional and shared a lot.
Frederick listened patiently and stayed for dinner. When he drove back, it was already nine in the evening.
As soon as he got into the car, Charlotte's call came through.
