Chapter 591 I Don't Want to See You Again!
Amara suddenly felt a bit lost.
If Kingsley really went to Libytania, would she still be able to see him? In a year or two, would he have a new girlfriend?
Amara always knew that with his background and looks, Kingsley could get any girl he wanted if he tried. But she had let him down.
Now, no matter how Kingsley treated her, she could accept it. She just wanted a chance.
Rebecca was kind to her, bringing a tray and saying gently, "You should eat something light. Usually, in two days, you can eat better. The doctor said you are malnourished. Even if you want to pursue Mr. Hawkins, you need to take care of your health first. Only then might he like you again."
Rebecca, having been a mother, was very considerate.
Amara took the tray and nodded. "Thank you."
Seeing her eat, Rebecca sighed in relief and said, "Take your time eating. I've arranged for a nurse to be outside. If you need anything, just call her. I have some matters to attend to at the company. I'll come see you tomorrow."
Amara thought of seeing her off, but Rebecca stopped her. "Don't get up! You're not fully recovered yet! Take good care of yourself. I'm leaving now!"
Amara thanked her softly again.
After Rebecca left, she started eating the porridge. It was probably made by a five-star hotel, very aromatic, smooth, and light. Even though Amara's stomach was uncomfortable, she ate most of it.
After eating, Amara sat in a daze for a while and thought of Kingsley, who brought her to the hospital. He was angry but didn't abandon her.
Did that mean he still had a soft spot for her?
After hesitating for a while, Amara picked up her phone and called Kingsley.
The phone rang with the dial tone.
Amara was stunned for a moment. He should be answering the phone, right? So she waited for a long time and dialed again. This time, he answered, but his tone was very cold. "What do you want? If it's not urgent, don't call me again!"
Amara's heart ached. She bit her lip and said, "Thank you for taking me to the hospital."
He replied emotionlessly, "Even if it were a stranger, I would have taken them. It's nothing!"
After his words hung in the air, he paused for a few seconds, seemingly waiting for her to respond.
Amara wanted to see him, but she knew he didn't. She swallowed her pride and pleaded. "Can you come see me?"
Kingsley was momentarily stunned.
He could hear the grievance and coquettishness in her tone. In fact, when they were together, she rarely made demands of him, let alone acted cute. He liked that, but he was a really decisive guy. Once he decided to give up on her, he stuck to it.
Regaining his composure, his tone became even more distant. "I won't come to the hospital. Don't call me again!"
He hung up the phone directly.
Amara held the phone, sitting on the hospital bed, lost in thought.
A nurse came in with a small cart, smiling. "Ms. Butler, you need another IV today."
Amara numbly extended her arm. The nurse tightened the tourniquet, and the thin needle pierced her skin. Soon, a small stream of red blood flowed into the tube.
The nurse's aide came over and softly comforted her.
Everything wasn't too bad, but Amara couldn't calm down.
She desperately wanted to see Kingsley. She knew that by pestering him like this, she had no self-respect, but she really wanted to win him back.
"I'm sorry! I want to be discharged!" Amara suddenly spoke. Before the nurse could react, she had already pulled out the needle.
Without even changing her clothes, she grabbed her phone and dashed out, still in her house slippers.
"Ms. Butler!" The nurse and the aide were shocked and immediately ran after her, but Amara closed the elevator door in front of them.
Watching the red numbers on the elevator go down, the aide quickly called Rebecca. "Ms. Butler was still on an IV when she suddenly pulled out the needle and ran away."
Rebecca, with her rich professional experience, wasn't fazed by this.
She immediately reassured. "Stay at the hospital. I'll arrange for someone to find Amara."
The aide was very grateful.
Rebecca hung up the phone, sighed lightly, and opened the conference room door.
Kingsley was holding a shareholders' meeting. The elderly shareholders of the Hawkins Group were all present, including Patrick and Frederick. Even Charlotte, who owned five percent of the Hawkins Group, was there.
The shareholders were in a heated debate over the Libytania project.
Nobody wanted Kingsley to be away on a business trip for more than a year.
But it was clear Kingsley had already made up his mind. Now, it was just about convincing the shareholders. Ironically, the ones most opposed were the Hawkins Family. They thought that at Kingsley's age, marriage should be his top priority.
But in front of outsiders, Frederick would never contradict Kingsley. At least on the surface, Frederick always remained neutral, and only Charlotte understood him.
At this moment, Rebecca leaned in and whispered, "Amara left the hospital. Should we send someone to find her, or should I go look for her?"
Kingsley was taken aback.
He cleared his throat and lowered his voice. "Why did she leave?"
Rebecca just looked at him.
Kingsley instantly understood that she left the hospital because he wouldn't see her, so she ran out to find him. His feelings were complicated, but he finally said coldly, "If she ran out, then let her be."
Rebecca blinked lightly.
Kingsley seemed to lose patience. "You can go now!"
Rebecca nodded and slowly walked out. As she closed the conference room door, she couldn't help but think, 'They're definitely done! Maybe he's just too disappointed in her.'
Rebecca returned to her office, did some work, but eventually couldn't sit still and went to the lobby.
Amara was sitting there.
Knowing Amara's identity, the receptionist didn't dare to report her presence.
Amara sat alone on a corner sofa, hugging herself. She was still wearing her hospital gown, which looked loose on her thin frame.
Rebecca felt a pang of sympathy. She walked over, sat next to Amara, and gently brushed a strand of hair from Amara's face, speaking softly, "Mr. Hawkins might be very busy."
Rebecca spoke tactfully, but Amara understood and said softly, "You think I'm shameless too, don't you? I feel that way myself, but I don't want to give up."
Rebecca sighed. "It's a bit too late. He isn't an easy man to deal with. Anyone who's interacted with him knows he's hard to please. I think he's made up his mind to give up on this relationship."
Rebecca wanted Amara to have a better life, so she offered a practical suggestion. "He is willing to compensate you financially. I think within a reasonable range, he would agree. Even if you ask for two or ten million dollars, he will generously agree."
Amara knew her life was a mess, and she wasn't indifferent to money. But if she took his money, she could never appear in front of him again.
Amara felt a lump in her throat and whispered, "Thank you," before standing up. Her hospital gown still hung loosely on her.
Rebecca sighed softly, thinking she should have planned more for herself. Amara probably loved him a lot too. Although she felt regretful, Rebecca respected Amara's choice.
Then Amara said softly, "I'll go back to the hospital."
Rebecca wanted to arrange a car for her, but she refused. "I'll take the bus back."
Rebecca, still worried, insisted on arranging a car to take her back. Just then, Charlotte's voice was heard. "Rebecca! This must be Amara!"
Charlotte had come for the meeting, dressed more formally than usual in a black knee-length business dress, with her golden hair pinned up. A jade ring adorned her finger, a 30th wedding anniversary gift Frederick had bought at Sotheby's last year.
Amara looked at Charlotte, feeling uneasy, even though Charlotte was very approachable. After all, she was Kingsley's mother, and Amara was still in her hospital gown.
Charlotte seemed to notice Amara's discomfort. She tilted her head and smiled. "Can we talk for a moment?"
Amara trembled slightly.
Before Amara could respond, Rebecca gently pushed her and decided for her. "Of course! Amara has nothing else to do right now! I'll take you to the meeting room!"
Charlotte continued to smile. "I'll take her. Could you buy a set of clothes for Amara? You should know her size."
Rebecca gazed at the gentle and beautiful Charlotte, not daring to slack off. Although Kingsley was undoubtedly exceptional, his charisma still couldn't compare to Charlotte's. Then, she immediately went to handle it.
Charlotte gently patted Amara's arm and said kindly, "Let's go!"
The employees present were stunned. Everyone knew that Amara would never have anything to do with Kingsley again, but here was Charlotte, treating her very well and looking quite pleased with her. However, to them, Amara seemed quite ordinary.
In a moment, Charlotte led Amara into a very elegant meeting room. Judging by the decor, it was clear that it was not usually open to the public. The secretary immediately brought in coffee according to Charlotte's preferences.
Charlotte smiled lightly. "Bring a cup of milk for Amara."
Amara felt uneasy and overwhelmed, wanting to explain herself. After all, she was just a girl, and pursuing Kingsley so openly and being summoned by Charlotte was quite embarrassing.
When her milk was delivered, she took a moment to gather her courage and was just about to speak when Charlotte interrupted her. Charlotte quietly looked out the window, her tone calm, as if she were talking about everyday matters. She began to talk about the past, about her marriage when she was pregnant with Kingsley, sharing such private matters with Amara in a serene tone.
Amara listened intently. Several times, Amara wanted to say something but held back. Charlotte smiled faintly. "There are several children in the family. Besides Kingsley's cousin Gavin, Kingsley is the most like his father. But Kingsley has never had a girlfriend. We can all tell that his feelings for you are very pure."
Amara's lips trembled as she thought of her past and her relationship with Ralph, which she felt was a stain.
But Charlotte didn't mind. She said softly, carefully choosing her words, "It is not your fault. I hope you can be with Kingsley. But he is in a bad mood right now. If I openly help you, it might push you further away from him. Do you understand what I mean?"
Amara was stunned for a long time and then nodded lightly.
Charlotte's voice was soft. "You have to win him back yourself. What we can do is not arrange any blind dates for him for the next two years. I want Kingsley to have true happiness. Clearly, only you can achieve that right now."
Amara was dumbfounded.
Charlotte knew it would be hard for Amara to accept this immediately, so she didn't say more. Just then, Rebecca returned, carrying a bag.
"Arrange a car to take Amara back. Come back later; I have something to discuss with you," Charlotte said calmly, then took a sip of coffee.
Rebecca nodded. Although she hadn't heard the previous conversation, with her rich professional experience, she could read the situation. She immediately arranged a car to take Amara away.
When she returned, Charlotte had drunk most of her coffee.
Charlotte looked at Rebecca and said, "Kingsley's trip to Libytania is almost certain. Frederick and I can't stop him. I heard you're going too! Before you go to Libytania, please arrange for Amara to join the Hawkins Group's branch office."
Rebecca was slightly stunned. Charlotte smiled faintly. "In a year, Amara should be able to work at the headquarters if she loves Kingsley enough. When he returns in a year, Amara will probably be working near him, and they can see each other a few times a month."
Charlotte gently adjusted her dress and said softly, "Consider it a gift from me to him."
Charlotte walked out.
Rebecca slumped into a chair, thinking that if Kingsley found out she arranged this, he might punish her in Libytania! But she couldn't disobey Charlotte's orders, nor could she reveal that it was Charlotte's arrangement. Then she thought, 'The Hawkins family are truly cunning.'
Amara hadn't seen Kingsley for three days.
In another three days, Kingsley would be flying to Libytania. He had finally convinced the Hawkins Group's shareholders.
At the Hawkins Mansion, the servants had already packed his luggage early, filling four large suitcases with all his necessary attire and accessories. When Kingsley returned home from work and went upstairs, he saw the servants carrying the suitcases to the living room.
Seeing him, the servant said, "Mr. Hawkins, please check if there's anything else you need. We can pack another suitcase."
Kingsley walked into the dressing room, opened the wardrobe, and pulled out the drawer with his accessories. Everything was nearly packed, yet his eyes immediately caught sight of the Patek Philippe watch, sitting quietly in its case.
That watch was the one Amara had taken.
Hadn't he given it to her? Why was it back here?
Kingsley took out the watch and looked at it for a long time. He even tried it on but eventually took it off, feeling it no longer suited him.
Just then, Jimmy called, who was the son of Bradley and Lily.
The Lawson Group's business was steady but unremarkable, yet Kingsley got along well with Jimmy. Thanks to their parents' friendship, the Lawson Group had been improving over the years.
Jimmy had married early but still spoke casually, "What are you up to, Kingsley? I heard from my dad that you're going to Libytania for a business trip. We've booked a private room and are waiting for you. Are you coming? We haven't seen you in ages!"
Kingsley put the watch back and said nonchalantly, "I'll be there."
Jimmy chuckled and said something private, to which Kingsley only responded with a faint smile.
Kingsley had always been indifferent to sex. While his friends were engaging with other women, he remained uninterested; otherwise, he wouldn't have had his first sexual experience with Amara. Thinking of her, Kingsley's smile faded.
Kingsley changed his clothes, grabbed his car keys, and headed out. As he went downstairs, Frederick called out to him.
Frederick put down his coffee. He looked Kingsley up and down and chuckled. "Are you going on a date? You're dressed so handsomely!"
Kingsley smirked slightly. "Jimmy asked me to hang out."
Frederick was a bit disappointed and couldn't help but complain, "Jimmy's married. Why is he still running around? Doesn't he need to spend time with his wife?"
Kingsley adjusted his collar. "Dad, not everyone is like you, always staying by Mom's side."
Frederick was displeased. "You're talking back to me now! You're really something. Find me a daughter-in-law then!"
Kingsley's expression turned cold. "Sure! You can find anyone for me. We can get married tomorrow."
With that, he left.
Frederick was left standing there, feeling a pang in his heart. "He is threatening me!"
Charlotte gracefully came downstairs.
Frederick pointed outside and said, "Kingsley said he would marry any woman. He's really something. It's just a breakup!"
Charlotte ignored him and went to arrange dinner. He couldn't hold back and grabbed her hand. "Kingsley is your son. You can't ignore this! Something's wrong with him. What if he never likes women again?"
Charlotte couldn't stand him. "Kingsley is just going to Libytania for a year. Don't say such nonsense!"
Frederick gently held her waist and said softly, "What if he comes back and Amara is married, maybe even with a kid? What then? Don't come crying to me!"
Charlotte glared at him. "Should I knock Amara out and put her in Kingsley's bed?"
Frederick seriously considered it. "It's not a bad idea!"
Charlotte thought marriage had made him lose his mind!
Kingsley drove to the club, where Jimmy and the others were already waiting. Besides a few childhood friends, there were also some socialites, including Caitlyn Robinson, who had been pursuing Kingsley. Jimmy had invited Caitlyn, fearing Kingsley might be upset. But when Kingsley walked in, he didn't show any displeasure, which made Jimmy relax.
While they were hanging out, Caitlyn sat next to Kingsley. Although he didn't reciprocate her advances, he didn't push her away either. Being in the same social circle, he didn't want to embarrass her. Besides, he was single now.
But when Caitlyn's soft body leaned against his arm, her feminine charm didn't arouse him. Kingsley frowned slightly and stood up. "I'm going to the restroom."
In reality, Kingsley wanted to go smoke.
After a while, Kingsley thought he should head back. He felt a bit bored after sitting for half an hour.
What Kingsley didn't expect was to run into Amara there.
At the restroom entrance, Amara stood about six feet away, looking up at him. She watched him smoke, noticing the lipstick stain on the corner of his shirt.
