Chapter 717 Divorce! Their Ending is More Miserable Than Embarrassing

Lola didn't touch that cocktail.

Ramon Meza had told her to lay off the booze.

Ramon was the son of a family friend of the Hawkins family, a well-known psychologist who had just come back from abroad and was now working at a hospital in Seattle.

He owned this bar and had invited Lola to come and chill, but he was firm about her not drinking. He warned her that drinking could mess with her sleep.

Lola had just finished a therapy session with him.

She would drop by now and then to relax.

Ramon said she was making good progress.

Lola watched the guy playing the guitar on stage, dressed in a white shirt and black casual pants, looking fresh and clean with a hint of youthfulness. In reality, Ramon was already in his thirties.

After two songs, Lola decided to leave.

The light pink cocktail stayed untouched on the dark wooden bar.

At the bar's entrance, a tall figure stood there.

Wearing a white shirt, black casual pants, and a navy blue trench coat, he looked strikingly handsome, but his gaze was extremely gloomy. It was Johnny.

Lola was slightly startled.

Johnny grabbed her wrist, gritting his teeth, "Who's he? Your new boyfriend? Mrs. Flores, don't forget we're still married. Are you coming here every day to meet other men?"

Lola instinctively tried to shake off his hand, "What nonsense! He is..."

Johnny cut her off.

He dragged her outside, not wanting the young man inside to see her for even a second longer. He opened the door of his black Range Rover, shoved Lola inside, and fastened her seatbelt.

"Don't move!"

Johnny moved with lightning speed. Before she could get out, he was already in the driver's seat, not even bothering to buckle his seatbelt before flooring the gas pedal. He buckled up while driving, his face looking terrifyingly grim.

The car sped through the city, neither of them speaking.

The neon lights of the city flashed by, retreating into the distance, much like the memories of their past.

About ten minutes later, Lola spoke softly, "Where are you taking me?"

Suddenly, the black Range Rover came to a screeching halt by the roadside, causing Lola to lurch forward.

Before she could react, Johnny had turned her towards him.

His urgent kisses landed on her lips, her face, her chin... He was desperate, as if he wanted to devour her. He tore open her shirt, his hands mercilessly exploring her body, treating her like a prostitute.

Lola struggled desperately.

But he pinned her down against the seat, making it impossible for her to break free. Even when she grabbed his hair and pulled with all her might, he didn't let go. He even slipped his hand under her clothes, urgently trying to arouse her.

Lola felt nothing.

Johnny was momentarily stunned. How could she feel nothing at all?

In his moment of hesitation, Lola pushed him away and slapped him hard across the face.

Lola's lips trembled, "How dare you! You're so filthy!"

The once intimate atmosphere in the car vanished.

After a moment of silence, Johnny lightly pressed his tongue against the inside of his mouth. He stared at her for a moment before sneering, "Don't forget, my blood runs through your veins! No matter how filthy, haven't you used it?"

Lola felt a sharp pain in her chest.

Suddenly, he grabbed her hand again, pulling her close. Their breaths mingled, and he spoke coldly, "You think I'm filthy? How much better are you? Haven't you always had men around you? First Darren, and now this guy? Is he Darren's replacement?"

Lola closed her eyes, "Have you said enough? If you're done, I'll tell you who he is...""I don't care who he is! I don't give a damn!"

Johnny suddenly let go of her. He sat up straight, looking ahead. After a moment, he took a pack of cigarettes from the glove compartment. Lola noticed a bottle of perfume inside, the kind Shirley often used.

It must have been left by Shirley.

She felt a wave of nausea and turned her head away, "Let me out."

Johnny saw the perfume too, but he didn't care. He lit a cigarette, took a drag, and then turned to her, "You don't need to rush out. I won't bother you. I just have a few things to say."

Lola saw a hint of disdain in his eyes.

She had a feeling she knew what he was going to say. She leaned back in her seat, calmly looking ahead.

Johnny smoked half a cigarette before putting it out.

As he extinguished the cigarette, he spoke indifferently, "You can have other men, so why can't I? Lola, you want a divorce... fine, we'll get divorced!"

Outside, the night was terrifyingly dark, as if it wanted to tear people's hearts apart.

But Lola no longer felt any pain.

She heard Johnny continue in a detached tone, "Congratulations, you're free now! And so am I. From now on, whether I find Shirley or any other woman, it has nothing to do with you. And whether you find Darren or that guy from earlier... it has nothing to do with me!"

With that, he sneered.

Lola took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady, "Yes! You're right! From now on, we have nothing to do with each other!"

A faint click sounded in the car.

The car door unlocked.

Johnny's voice was cold and devoid of any warmth. He didn't look at her, "Get out now!"

The early autumn night was chilly.

Lola wasn't wearing a coat, and she still had on high heels. But Johnny had no time for chivalry; he wanted her out... Lola gritted her teeth and opened the car door.

She stood in the cold wind, her body trembling slightly.

Johnny sat in the car, watching her for a few seconds... then he drove away.

The night was dark, the endless road illuminated by golden streetlights like a long dragon.

Lola wanted to call someone, but realized her phone was still in Johnny's car. She stared blankly into the distance, then bent down and slowly took off her high heels.

Her feet hurt; the concrete was so hard.

Just like she never knew, her ending with Johnny would be even more miserable than she had imagined.

She walked alone in the deep night.

Her delicate feet quickly became blistered, blood staining the gray pavement, leaving a trail of red.

A car slowly pulled up beside her.

Ramon stopped the car and pulled her over, "You have a bleeding disorder. Do you want to die from blood loss?"

Seeing it was him, Lola held up her high heels, "I can't walk in these."

Ramon had asked around at the bar and guessed that Johnny had taken her and they had fought.

He brought his bike over and pointed to the back seat, "Get on! I'll take you to the hospital. And... you need to be admitted."

Lola wasn't a rebellious teenager anymore.

She quietly sat on the back seat of Ramon's bike. After a while, a light rain began to fall. Ramon somehow produced an umbrella and handed it to her, "Hold this!"

The gentle rain fell silently.

Ramon heard sobbing from the back seat. After a moment of silence, he asked, "You must really love him, don't you?"

Lola looked up at the night sky, blinking softly.

She didn't answer Ramon's question.

That night, she and Johnny completely broke off, but she saw news about him on the trending topics, specifically about him and Shirley. In a luxury car, Johnny seemed drunk.

Shirley was tenderly taking care of him, unbuttoning his white shirt. Johnny didn't resist... he looked at Shirley with clear eyes, seemingly with a touch of gentleness. The scene of Johnny and Shirley that night went viral on the internet.

Johnny's company worked overnight to manage the PR crisis.

The PR manager openly stated, "Our Mr. Flores and Mrs. Flores are in the process of getting a divorce... As for whether Ms. Wells is Mr. Flores' new girlfriend, you'll have to ask them."

"Stop looking at that!"

Ramon took the newspaper away. He brought over a medical kit to change the bandages on Lola's feet. The wounds were small but not deep, and the bleeding had stopped after half an hour of medication the previous night. However, Lola had lost quite a bit of blood and looked pale.

After treating her wounds, Ramon gave her some instructions.

Lola put on her shoes, "I can't stay in the hospital. There are many things at the law firm that need my attention."

Just then, the office door opened.

It was Natalie, along with Andrew and Chloe. Natalie had just returned from abroad, and Andrew and Chloe had picked her up. Since Natalie knew Ramon, they came straight to the Hawkins family.

Andrew and Chloe were very fond of Lola.

Lola was the first child in the family, cherished in her childhood, but as she grew up, she took care of Amara. She wanted to maintain her composure, but her voice choked up, "Andrew!"

Andrew had heard about the situation and felt deeply concerned.

Chloe hugged Lola tightly, examining her carefully, "I'll give Johnny a piece of my mind. He's lost his senses."

No one in the family knew about the events of the previous night.

Lola didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so she paused and said softly, "I've completely separated from him. We'll be signing the papers soon."

Andrew and Chloe exchanged glances.

Such a significant matter, they couldn't make decisions for Lola. They would need to discuss it with Frederick and his wife.

Ramon then explained Lola's condition to Andrew and Chloe. He looked at her medical records and sighed, "There wasn't much of a problem, but I think she was triggered last night. She should be hospitalized for observation... and take another course of medication."

Andrew looked at Lola, and Chloe gently stroked the wounds on Lola's feet, unable to hold back her tears. This was Frederick's most cherished and proud child, the one Charlotte had risked her life to give birth to.

How could Johnny dare, how could he treat Lola like this?

Natalie said, "I'll stay with Lola. Dad, Mom, you should go to Uncle Frederick's house and drop off your luggage first."

Andrew and Chloe agreed, as they wanted to discuss the situation.

Before leaving, Andrew gently touched Lola's hair, "I'm here for you."

Lola gave a faint smile, "I'm really fine."

After Andrew and Chloe left, Natalie helped Lola walk towards the hospital room, scolding her softly, "Your feet are injured, and you're still thinking about work!"

Lola was about to say something when she stopped in her tracks.

In the hospital corridor, there was Johnny, accompanied by Shirley.

He had indeed meant what he said. From now on, they had nothing to do with each other. Whether he was with Shirley or someone else, it no longer mattered to her.

"What's wrong?"

Ramon's voice came from behind. He had just come out of the office and also saw the people across the corridor.

He was momentarily stunned.Johnny had drunk too much the previous night and developed acute gastritis. Shirley had come to take care of him. He had initially wanted to push her away, but he remembered what he had said to Lola. Whether it was out of revenge or simply needing someone by his side, he didn't reject Shirley.

He thought, what's the harm in having a woman by his side?

Even if she was after his money, even if she wasn't his type, at least she was obedient and wouldn't think about other men.

He kept Shirley around, and his PR manager didn't deny Shirley's presence, all with his tacit approval.

He thought it was time to officially end things with Lola.

But now, seeing the young bartender from last night in a doctor's uniform, looking professional and nothing like he did the previous night, Johnny was taken aback.

He was... a doctor?

Ramon, seeing Johnny for the first time, spoke calmly, "I'm Dr. Meza, Ramon Meza, a psychologist. Mr. Flores, I've heard a lot about you... But I think you misunderstood last night. Ms. Hawkins is my patient."

Johnny, already unwell, looked even paler.

He stared at Lola in disbelief... a patient?

What was wrong with Lola?

Before he could ask, Natalie stepped forward, her delicate face stern as she began to scold, "Johnny, you're despicable! Lola has been undergoing treatment for moderate depression for two to three months, and you suspected her of having a toy boy! And you flaunt your relationship with Ms. Wells everywhere, hurting Lola. Even if you don't care about your marriage or your child's dignity, you should at least consider the Hawkins family's kindness in taking you in!"

Natalie, thinking of the Johnny who used to be kind to her, felt her eyes well up, "I despise you!"

Shirley, fearing her relationship with Johnny would be ruined, tried to speak, but Natalie slapped her, "Who do you think you are? Do you really think Lola would let you off for the sake of her dignity? The Hawkins family has plenty of people who can deal with you. Any one of us could make you regret it, and your so-called lover can't protect you."

Shirley, in disbelief, looked to Johnny for help.

But Johnny pushed her away.

His eyes were fixed on Lola, his lips trembling as he spoke, "Lola, can we..."

He couldn't finish his sentence.

Lola was crying.

She lowered her eyes, tears falling silently. He rarely saw her cry since she was a child. She always had that fair, delicate face, with fluffy golden curls, happily calling out to him, "Johnny..."

He remembered their teenage years, the time they had a fight, and Lola cried.

He had been at a loss then, just as he was now. He didn't know how to comfort her, how to explain... everything he had done to her last night.

He had told her she could have other men, and he could have other women.

He had told her he was filthy, but she had used his blood.

He had told her they were free now, free to find new partners.

But Lola... how could it be like this!

Johnny's world felt desolate... his mind went blank, and the only thing he could remember was what he had told her when they were young, "Lola, don't cry. You can have whatever you want."

Lola slowly raised her eyes, looking at him steadily, "Sign the divorce papers."

Johnny didn't know how he managed to say "OK," but when he did, his heart felt numb... He struggled to ask, "When do you want to do it?"

Lola blinked softly, "Anytime."

Johnny closed his eyes briefly, "Alright."

Then, he heard Lola's voice, light but firm, "Then let's do it now!"
