Chapter 212 Is She Pregnant?

The black van rolled into the estate.

The Devereux family was buzzing with activity.

Andrew was the heart of the Devereux family. Since Andrew was single and childless, finding a lost child was a big deal, and everyone who could make it showed up.

Andrew's car pulled up to the house.

As soon as he stepped out, Adeline rushed over, hugging Charlotte and crying.

People said grandparents had a special bond with their grandkids, especially when the middle generation had passed away and left only one child. How could she not be doted on?

Adeline showered Charlotte with sweet words like "sweetie" and "baby."

Charlotte felt a bit shy; she wasn't used to this kind of attention.

Andrew gently patted Adeline's shoulder and said, "It's great Charlotte is back, so why the tears? I told her in the car you cried your eyes out, and she felt bad."

Adeline stopped crying and looked Charlotte over.

Then she smiled at Maria. "She looks just like Victoria, and a bit like you too!"

Maria was touched. She never expected the Devereux family to be so kind.

Adeline held both their hands. "Andrew's right. Today is a good day!"

The Devereux family set off fireworks at the door to celebrate Charlotte's return.

Andrew personally lit them, and then they started eating.

The Devereux family had a lot of people, filling more than a dozen tables. Just as the dishes were being served, the butler came over. "Mr. Devereux, someone from Syeattel is here with gifts!"

Andrew paused. "Gifts from Syeattel?"

He smiled slightly. "Is it the Hawkins family?"

The butler smiled awkwardly and glanced at Charlotte. Everyone knew about Charlotte and Frederick.

Andrew thought for a moment and told them to come in.

A line of black Mercedes arrived with a dozen of expensive gifts.

Andrew pointed at them and asked, "Is this a gift or a marriage proposal?"

The people sent by Hawkins family smiled.

Adeline was about to speak when Andrew whispered, "I've met him. He's quite handsome and decent!"

Adeline trusted her son and nodded.

Andrew accepted half the gifts, signaling he hadn't agreed the marriage yet. By doing this, he was establishing Charlotte's status in the Devereux family!

Charlotte was quite sought after, and the Hawkins family had come to propose. He wanted Charlotte, the eldest daughter of the Devereux family, to have a strong standing!

Charlotte was touched. 'What did Frederick mean by this?' she wondered as she looked at the piles of gifts he sent.

That night, she finally had a moment to herself and was about to call him when Frederick called first.

Charlotte answered.

His tone was unusually gentle. "Did you have fun over there?"

Charlotte nodded. "It was okay."

She thought for a moment and then said directly, "Don't send gifts to the Devereux family anymore. It scares me."

"Scared of being misunderstood? Charlotte, I was actually proposing, but your uncle refused!"

In the quiet of the night, Frederick's voice was captivating. "What should I do? It seems like it's getting harder to pursue you! Charlotte, do you want me to come over?"

Charlotte shook her head.

Acknowledging family ties was one thing, but it had nothing to do with their relationship.

Frederick was clearly trying to complicate things.

Charlotte stayed calm. She said softly, "Let's talk when I get back to Syeattel."

Frederick was silent for a long time before whispering, "Charlotte, are you rejecting me from entering your life?"

In this generation of the Devereux family, she was the only girl.

Andrew's attitude clearly indicated he wanted her to return to Copenhegan. If Charlotte was willing, did they still have a chance?

After he asked, neither of them spoke.

Charlotte knew he wanted a commitment, but she couldn't give it at the moment. She wasn't ready to give herself away that easily, not again.

In the end, Frederick hung up.

Charlotte stayed with the Devereux family for three days before heading back to Syeattel.

The driver dropped her off at her apartment building, where a black Maybach was parked. The window was down, and a long arm was resting there, smoking.

It was Frederick. He saw Charlotte, got out of the car, and took her suitcase. "You're back?"

Charlotte nodded.

They hadn't seen each other for half a month, and now they felt a bit distant.

Frederick stubbed out his cigarette and went upstairs ahead of her.

Charlotte wanted to stop him, but seeing his lonely back, she swallowed her words and followed him upstairs.

When Charlotte opened the door, Frederick couldn't help but hug her from behind.

Her body stiffened slightly.

Frederick probably noticed and whispered in her ear, "I won't touch you. We haven't had a meal together in a long time. How about some pasta?"

Charlotte nodded.

She opened the door and went in, with Frederick following behind her. He looked around and asked, "Where's our dog?"

Charlotte smiled. "It's in Copenhegan."

Frederick turned her around and gently pressed her onto the small sofa, asking in a low voice, "Are you planning to let that dog take the Devereux name too?"

Charlotte found him annoying. She pushed him away and went to the kitchen to cook some pasta. She hadn't had lunch and wanted something hot to eat.

Frederick made her a cup of milk.

Leaning against the kitchen counter, he said casually, "I heard the Bostan project started off very successfully."

Charlotte nodded. "Yes, it went well! I left Brian there for two months, and he's fully in charge of the project. You don't need to worry about his capabilities; Mr. Nelson will keep an eye on him and help him out when needed."

Frederick's eyes were intense.

Over the past few months, Charlotte seemed like a different person.

He liked it but was also unsatisfied; he wanted to have her completely.

With Andrew's appearance, he couldn't stay calm.

While she was washing vegetables, he hugged her slender waist. "Will you go to Copenhegan in the future?"

Charlotte paused. "I have plans to."

Frederick's heart sank slightly, but he patiently asked, "And then, will you date under the Devereux family's arrangements? Charlotte, what about me? How do you plan to arrange me?"

After much back and forth, he finally got to the point. He was still asking for a commitment!

Charlotte wasn't a hard-hearted person. She had tasted the bitterness of love and knew Frederick liked her, but she wasn't ready for marriage. Liking someone didn't necessarily mean marriage.

Being with him felt good and made her happy, but who knew what the future held? What if one night he got a call from the Mitchell family and left her again?

Charlotte continued washing vegetables.

The house was very quiet, with only the sound of running water.

Frederick understood her meaning. He slowly let go of her and said softly, "I'll go have a cigarette."

Charlotte looked up. "Smoke less. Lately, you are always smoking."

"Are you concerned about me?"

Charlotte turned around and smiled at him. "Frederick, we're not enemies. We still have to get along for nine months. It's not strange for me to care about you a bit!"

Frederick's gaze deepened. He suddenly picked her up and placed her on the kitchen counter.

The cold marble contrasted sharply with the heat of his body. Charlotte couldn't stand it and lightly resisted against his shoulder. "Frederick, not here!"

Frederick grabbed her chin and kissed her deeply.

Their lips and tongues intertwined in a frenzied kiss.

Charlotte resisted, struggling hard, but he seemed determined. Eventually, she gave in, her body softening against his, her arms wrapping tightly around his neck.

A faint sound of a zipper, and he completely possessed her.

One time wasn't enough for him after holding back for so long. He kept at it all afternoon. Charlotte thought Frederick had gone a bit crazy. By the end, both were in a daze.

She fell asleep from exhaustion and woke up in the middle of the night.

He wasn't beside her.

Charlotte lay there, staring into the darkness.

They had crossed the line.

The originally agreed one-year term, he wasn't satisfied and kept pushing, and she, despite her harsh words, knew she had softened. Otherwise, she wouldn't have let him stay the night.

Should she give it another try with him?

Charlotte decided to leave the answer to time.

In the following days, Frederick didn't appear in front of her as frequently. He would date her once a week, either at his villa or out for dinner.

Time passed by, and before she knew it, it was Christmas.

Maria was still in Copenhegan and hadn't returned.

Charlotte flew there twice, staying for two or three days each time. She also went to Bostan monthly to check on Brian's performance, which was excellent!

Charlotte felt life was pretty good.

She arranged to have dinner with Lily at a restaurant.

Lily's belly was already eight or nine months along, about to give birth. She was always accompanied by someone, and Bradley treated her like a treasure. Their relationship with his parents had also improved.

Charlotte served her a bowl of nourishing soup.

Lily pinched her own cheek and said, "Look how fat I've gotten! Charlotte, I don't care. Bradley isn't here today. I want something spicy. Let's order some spicy food for delivery!"

Charlotte glanced at her. "Ordering takeout here? Are you serious?"

Lily pinched her nose and drank the soup.

After finishing, she stuck out her tongue and started chatting, "Did you know? Chloe and Ethan really broke up! Ethan made that little mistress's life miserable. She can't even get a job delivering takeout, let alone in the entertainment industry!"

Charlotte wasn't surprised. She smiled. "Ethan has always been like that!" But she was happy for Chloe; she was a simple girl who deserved better.

Thinking about Ethan made Charlotte's stomach feel a bit uncomfortable.

She told Lily, "Sit here for a bit. I need to go to the restroom."

Lily teased her, "Feeling nauseous? Could you be pregnant?"

Charlotte thought about it. Although Frederick wanted it often, he always took precautions, so she wasn't worried about that. "It's impossible!"
