Chapter 709 Lola, I Won't Get a Divorce!

After Johnny finished talking, he stormed off in a huff. He headed to his car, and the driver tried to hand him a towel to dry off, but Johnny just waved it away. The driver had no choice but to walk around to the front of the car and get in.

The black limo slowly pulled away, passing by Lola. She quietly folded her umbrella and got into her own car. As she sat down, she thought absentmindedly, 'Not only has Johnny changed, but so have I. Instead of tormenting each other, why not just end it?'

She hadn't told her parents about wanting a divorce. She was waiting for Johnny to come around, hoping that once he calmed down, he'd realize that letting go of his obsession might make him happier.

Lola didn't go straight home. She drove downtown and picked a Manilove restaurant to eat alone. After dinner, she went back home, but Johnny wasn't there.

Angelina told her, "Dad just got back, but he packed up and left again, saying he was going on a business trip abroad for at least a week."

Angelina's eyes were full of reluctance.

Lola gently patted Angelina's head. "Maybe it's urgent. When Dad comes back, he can spend time with you, Angelina."

Angelina bit her lip. "Really?"

Lola didn't say anything, still gently patting Angelina's head. Angelina's eyes slowly filled with tears. Actually, when living together, children could sense the emotions between their parents.

A week later, Johnny returned to Seattle. He didn't go home but went straight to the office.

As soon as he walked in, Felicity brought over a pile of documents and placed them on Johnny's desk, "Mr. Flores, these are urgent documents that need your approval."

After speaking, her gaze fell on Johnny's face. She noticed that Johnny had lost a lot of weight.

Johnny leaned back in his leather chair, silently looking at the documents. After a long while, he hoarsely asked, "Has Lola called?"

Felicity looked a bit taken aback. Then she remembered something and said, "No calls, but there seems to be a letter for you, sent from Ms. Hawkins' law firm."

She probably realized something, and her voice grew quieter. Could it be that Lola wanted a divorce?

Sure enough, Johnny had a particularly grim expression on his face. He picked out the letter from the pile of documents, opened it, and after taking a closer look, just a few lines in, his expression darkened even more, almost to the point of looking ashen.

Felicity couldn't help but say softly, "That woman named Shirley, you should explain to Ms. Hawkins. Actually, women like Shirley have very clear goals. They have no emotions... and no boundaries."

Johnny didn't respond, and it was unclear if he heard her. For the sake of her job, Felicity decided to leave it at that.

After a long time, Johnny said in a low voice, "You can go out now. I want to be alone for a while."

Felicity nodded and left, thoughtfully closing the door.

In the large office, only Johnny remained. He read the divorce agreement over and over again. Lola, being a lawyer, had put together a solid agreement that covered everything.

The division of assets was simple.

She had her law firm and Vertex Innovations Group, and he kept his company. She didn't want any of the real estate they had acquired after marriage; she only wanted the house they currently lived in... and their two children.

Johnny lit a cigarette and, through the delicate wisps of smoke, looked at their ending. No, it was the ending Lola wanted.

But he wouldn't agree. Johnny pulled out his phone and called Lola. She picked up quickly, her tone calm, "Back from your trip?"

He could even hear a hint of warmth in her voice, which felt ironic. Johnny cut to the chase, "I won't agree to the divorce!"

Lola was silent for a moment before asking, "What conditions do you want?"

"I want the kids! Then I'll sign. Otherwise, forget it."

He knew she would never give up custody of the kids, yet he still made this demand, clearly not willing to let go. Lola said softly, "Johnny, can you make a reasonable demand?"

Johnny sneered, "What do you mean by reasonable? Lola, tell me! Is it reasonable for me to leave with just a dog... is that what you mean? In your heart, am I no different from the dog we keep at home?"

Lola could tell he wasn't calm. She said, "Let's talk when you calm down."

Johnny hung up on her first. He stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray. But then he lit another one.

At that moment, his phone rang. Assuming it was Lola, he answered without thinking, "I'm telling you, I won't divorce! Unless the two kids stay with me! Mrs. Flores... give up on that idea!"

The expected voice didn't come.

Instead, a soft voice, with a hint of caution, said, "Mr. Flores, I'm sorry, it's me!"

Johnny looked at his phone. It was Shirley!

His voice turned cold, "Ms. Wells, how did you get my number?"

Shirley told the truth, "I paid for it! ... Mr. Flores, I didn't mean to... Did I have an impact on your family? I really didn't mean to. If Mrs. Flores misunderstood because of me, I'm willing to explain to her with you."

Johnny could see through her act. He told her clearly, "Ms. Wells, there will never be anything between us! Please don't call this number again. Otherwise, not only will you not be able to stay in the industry, but you also won't be able to stay in Seattle. I mean it."

He hung up the phone after speaking.

On the other end, Shirley was trembling all over. She couldn't believe Johnny would treat her like this... Didn't he get emotional about her that night after drinking?

Johnny stayed at the office late into the night before driving home.

When he headed downstairs to drive, he saw Shirley waiting for him, wearing only a thin shirt. Johnny pretended not to see her and got into his car.

Shirley's lips moved, and she called softly, "Mr. Flores."

But he drove away.

In the silent night, all that was left was the defiant look in Shirley's eyes.

When Johnny returned to the villa, the maid was still awake. Seeing him return, she immediately came forward, took his luggage, and respectfully said, "Mrs. Flores came back early and is now taking care of Mr. Austin Flores and Ms. Angelina Hawkins. Mr. Flores, would you like to have a late-night snack or go upstairs for a bath?"

While talking, they walked into the hall.

Johnny hadn't been home for a week, and this time back, his feelings were complicated.

Bobby popped up unexpectedly, affectionately circling him. Johnny reached out and patted its little head... At that moment, Lola came downstairs.

She stood on the stairs, and they exchanged glances. She was still wearing long sleeves... Johnny couldn't help but think of her physical condition. If a mark was left, it would take at least ten days to two weeks to fade.

Were the marks from that night still there?

He looked at Lola but spoke to the maid, "Let's have a late-night snack! Make two servings, Lola and I will eat together."
