Chapter 667 Zachary Passes Away
Amara thought for a second and then said, "Let's cook first!"
Kingsley watched her for a moment, gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, and said softly, "Go change your clothes; the food will be ready soon."
Amara changed and came back out. Kingsley was still in the kitchen. She glanced at the decanted red wine on the dining table before heading into the kitchen.
"Why aren't you waiting in the dining room? It's almost ready," Kingsley said, hearing her footsteps and turning around.
Amara leaned against the counter, watching him cook with a calm expression. She asked softly, "Did you help Billy find his original way of making money?"
Kingsley raised an eyebrow, paused for a moment, then smiled faintly. "Ralph told you? Looks like Mr. Church can't keep secrets either!"
Amara cut to the chase. "You had Mr. Church handle it? And Tessa, was that your doing too?"
Kingsley kept washing the vegetables, his movements graceful despite the mundane task. "I saw Hailey struggling, so I found something reliable for Billy to do. Is that wrong? As for Tessa, it was a test of Billy's loyalty to his marriage. Clearly, Billy didn't pass."
Amara laughed in frustration, lowering her voice. "There was no need for such a test! How upset must Naomi be?"
Kingsley put down the vegetables and looked deeply into her eyes. "Has he always been loyal to Naomi? If he has, I apologize, and you can punish me however you want."
Amara knew he was being unreasonable, but she couldn't find a way to argue back.
Kingsley turned on the faucet, his tone gentle. "Aren't I making amends now? I funded his car dealership. If he sincerely repents, I believe if they have feelings for each other, they'll reconcile."
Amara leaned against the counter, watching him silently.
After a while, Kingsley turned to her again, asking gently, "Are you angry?"
Amara said softly, "A little! Even if he was wrong, you shouldn't have intervened."
Kingsley laughed. "Didn't you intervene too? If it weren't for you, Billy wouldn't have been able to leave Stellaria City. He might have been beaten to death by debt collectors there, and Nicole would have lost her father long ago."
Amara was slightly stunned.
She didn't ask, but Kingsley knew what she wanted to say. He continued, "When you left back then, I went to Stellaria City once. In short, I had connections with Billy a long time ago. Amara, I care about Naomi too, but I think if Billy doesn't completely change, it will be bad for Nicole's growth. So isn't it good now? It's like doing a project. If there is a flaw in the process, addressing it in advance will be beneficial for future development."
He was smooth with his words, and Amara found herself unable to argue with the logic he presented.
She felt he made sense, but something still seemed off. However, it was a fact that Kingsley had spent a lot of money on Billy and that he loved Nicole. Amara sighed. "Let's eat!"
But Kingsley wrapped his arm around her waist, his voice low. "Are you still mad?"
Amara shot him a look. "What do you think?"
Kingsley stared at her for a moment before saying slowly, "I think you love me a lot."
He was so handsome, and with that look and gentle tone, Amara's anger melted away.
Seeing her relax, Kingsley pulled her closer, kissed her for a while, and murmured, "Don't be mad, okay? Isn't it better now? I think Billy won't mess up anymore; Naomi's found her own path, and Hailey told me she even got promoted to team leader. Shouldn't we be happy?"
Amara bit his lip, causing him to scream, "You're so cruel! You made me bleed!"
Kingsley murmured, pressing her against the counter, kissing and teasing her for a long time. But Amara still felt uneasy and didn't let him go further. She pushed against his shoulder. "Aren't you cooking? Your hands are dirty."
Kingsley's blue eyes were filled with heat, making her face flush.
Amara broke free and went to the living room. She turned on the TV, only to see the news. [Business tycoon Zachary passed away this evening at Wellness Oasis Hospital, reportedly due to stomach cancer.]
Amara's face was calm, but her fingers holding the remote trembled slightly.
The TV screen flickered with images of Zachary when he was alive, followed by clips of Sarah, shrouded in sunglasses as she hurried through a crowd, and various members of the Hughes Family, either sad or angry, probably because of uneven inheritance distribution.
He finally left! In this world, both of her biological parents were gone.
Kingsley walked over and saw the news on TV. He stood behind Amara silently for a while before bringing the lamb chops to the dining table, calling her softly, "Dinner's ready!"
Amara was in a daze for a long time before turning her head to him.
He saw the moisture in her eyes, smiled gently at her, and extended his hand. "Come here!"
Amara got up and walked over. Picking up the decanter with a light grip, she said, "Get two wine glasses."
But Kingsley covered her hand. "Amara, you don't need to put on a brave face in front of me. I know you didn't like him, and even hated him, but it's normal to have emotions when he dies."
Amara looked up at him. Kingsley gently pulled her into his arms. He kissed her hair and said softly, "By now, can't I be your support?"
Amara said in a daze, "I feel like you're suddenly too good to be true."
Kingsley squinted slightly. He suddenly picked her up and carried her to the master bedroom, pressing her onto the end of the bed. Amara didn't resist this sudden intimacy. Maybe it was the simplest and most direct way for them to vent their emotions.
She held Kingsley tightly, kissing him, even biting his shoulder hard when he was rough.
Kingsley looked down, his handsome face covered in sweat and deep emotion. His voice was sexy and hoarse. "Is it real now?"
