Chapter 21: She's Mad

Just then, the door swung open.

Grant walked in and saw the cozy scene. He smiled warmly. "How's the young lady feeling?"

Charlotte felt a wave of embarrassment.

But Frederick, ever the thick-skinned one, finished giving Charlotte a glass of water before turning to Grant. "Ms. Russell got caught up in Chloe's mess, so it's only right to take care of her."

Grant, always good-natured, replied, "Oh, I see! Your roles change fast!"

After checking on Charlotte and confirming she was fine, he smiled again. "With Frederick looking after you, you'll probably bounce back quicker."

Charlotte's face was burning up.

Grant left with a chuckle.

Charlotte was about to call Maria, but Frederick said, "I called in your vacation for you and let Maria know you'll be out for a few days."

Frederick seemed oblivious to her displeasure and casually added, "I asked Lucy to bring over some food."

Charlotte couldn't hold it in any longer.

She asked Frederick, "Are you watching me to make sure I don't ruin your sister's happiness?"

Frederick, leaning against the bedside table and texting Lucy, chuckled softly at her words.

"How exactly are you planning to ruin it? With your body? Or that messy old love? I thought Ethan had already made his choice."

He was incredibly handsome but had a sharp tongue. Whatever affection Charlotte had for him was gone.

She turned over, deliberately facing away from him.

Frederick crossed his long legs and looked at the woman on the bed, a faint smile on his face.

She seemed mad.

About half an hour later, Lucy brought dinner.

Seeing Charlotte, Lucy remembered meeting her once at the law firm. She had thought it was her one-sided entanglement, but it turned out the boss cared quite a bit, even personally taking care of her.

Lucy looked at her meaningfully.

Charlotte was in a bad mood and didn't notice this. She was genuinely hungry, so she thanked Lucy and opened the food container.

It was porridge, easy to digest, and perfect for a patient.

It smelled delicious.

A warm feeling washed over Charlotte. She felt Frederick's thoughtfulness. Being naturally soft-hearted, she quickly lowered her head in gratitude. "Mr. Hawkins, thank you for today!"

Frederick had no intention of joining her for dinner.

He continued to cross his long legs, casually handling business on his phone. "No need for thanks, Ms. Russell. I've got my reasons."

Charlotte was momentarily speechless.

Frederick had helped her many times, and he was a powerful figure. She said, "I guess I have misunderstood you before."

Frederick looked up at her; Charlotte stayed calm under his gaze.

She vaguely knew he liked her looks and figure because his gaze hinted at his interest in her.
After a while, Frederick put away his phone. "Are you sincere?"

His presence was overwhelming. Charlotte didn't dare to meet his eyes and pretended to drink her porridge. "Yes."

Frederick seemed satisfied and left with Lucy.

The room fell silent.

Charlotte lay alone on the bed, feeling the emptiness around her. Still feeling a bit uncomfortable, she decided to close her eyes and sleep.

When she woke up again, it was nine at night.

Being in the VIP ward area, it was especially quiet at night, with only the rustling of leaves and the sounds of insects and birds outside.

Charlotte walked to the window and opened it.

There was a garden below, with dense trees and various flowers.

Charlotte suddenly felt like taking a walk.

A moment later, she was stepping on the soft green grass, breathing in the fresh scent of the grass, feeling very comfortable.

The moon was bright, and everything was silent.

As Charlotte was planning her dull future, a soft, sweet voice broke the silence. "Ethan, kiss me again."
