Chapter 280 He Felt a Desire to Conquer Charlotte

Frederick was fuming.

But he really wanted it and she was just messing with him, so he was totally pissed.

Right then, the bathroom door swung open.

Charlotte, all wrapped up in clothes, said seriously, "Frederick, I ain't sleeping with you until you start respecting our marriage."

Just as she finished, Lola came out, stark naked, her little body dripping wet.

Charlotte grabbed a big towel, wrapped her up, and looked at her all tender-like.

After drying Lola off and helping her into pajamas, she dimmed the lights in the kids' room and settled against the headboard to read her a fairy tale. But Lola was more into the scent on her.

She gently patted Lola until she dozed off.

Frederick walked over, bent down, and kissed Lola, grumbling, "Do you sleep here every night?"

The light was dim.

Charlotte looked at him calmly and said, "I never asked where you slept before. Frederick, you better deal with Brenda, or I will."

Frederick plopped down on the edge of the bed.

She was soft and tempting.

He admitted it, he was ready to do anything for her, like any guy tempted, even plucking stars and moons from the sky.

Frederick suddenly got it.

Charlotte wanted to protect their kids first, and then him.

This realization made him a bit uneasy.

He looked down at her soft face, almost seeing another version of himself in her, a version with all the memories.

He didn't back down, but the next day, he still drove back to the Hawkins Mansion.

In the evening, Frederick didn't go in right away but leaned against the car, slowly smoking a cigarette.

The smoke rose, blurring his face.

There were a bunch of kids in the Hawkins Mansion, and the hall was filled with laughter and noise, super lively. But this liveliness felt kinda foreign to him.

After finishing his smoke, he walked into the hall.

In the hall, there was a new kid, well-behaved and cute.

At that moment, the little boy was sitting on the sofa, looking a bit distant, with a few toys scattered around him.

Frederick was about to ask.

Charlotte came over with a plate of freshly baked cookies, squatted in front of the boy, and said gently, "Johnny, these are fresh out of the oven; give 'em a try."

Johnny looked a bit awkward but grabbed a few.

"Good, right?" Charlotte patted his head.

"Yeah, they are."

Lola came over, snuggling close to him. "Johnny, Mommy put a lot of milk in these cookies. Will you come over again tomorrow?"

Johnny's little face turned slightly red, and he nodded.

Frederick frowned a bit.

No matter how he looked at it, he felt like this kid Johnny was being raised like a little husband by the Hawkins family.

And it was Lola's little husband.

He figured he needed to have a chat with Charlotte.

Late at night, after finally getting the kids to sleep, Frederick knocked on the door of the kids' room. "Got a minute? I need to talk to you about Lola."

When it came to the kids, Charlotte was always willing to talk.

She looked down at Lola in her arms and said softly, "I'll come to your room in a sec."

After a bit, she pushed open the door to his bedroom.

Inside, the light was dim, giving off a kinda romantic vibe.

Frederick had already showered and was lounging in a white bathrobe. He had a good build, and even a simple bathrobe looked good on him.

As Charlotte looked at him, Frederick was also eyeing her.

He sneered. "Dressed so conservatively; scared I'll try something?"

Charlotte ignored him, sat on the sofa opposite him, and asked softly, "What do you wanna talk about regarding Lola?"

Frederick didn't beat around the bush. "Who is Johnny to the Hawkins family? Who is he to Lola? If I'm not mistaken, he has a special blood type."

Charlotte lowered her eyes and smiled faintly. "You guessed it."

The air seemed to freeze.

Frederick looked at Charlotte.

She was wearing a light pink sweater dress, looking all soft, but he thought what she did was tough as nails.

Frederick didn't want to alarm his parents, so he kept his voice low but stern.

"He's a living person. Not something you can trade. Charlotte, how much did you spend to persuade his parents?"

Charlotte laughed vaguely.

He was accusing her, accusing her of being immoral.

Charlotte laughed.

Even though it was late at night, she still made a call to Jenna, and said gently, "Jenna, go to the office and get file number 1 from my safe, and bring it to the house."

Then Charlotte hung up the phone.

Frederick frowned.

An hour later, Jenna showed up late at night, delivered the file, and left.

Charlotte held the file and handed it to Frederick. "The answer you want is in here."

Frederick opened it, his eyes fixed.

He was a legal professional, and before opening this file, he never thought he would do something so absurd.

It was him!

It was he who invested $2 million in Johnny's father's company.

It was him playing golf with Johnny's father!

It was him who made the decision for Johnny to grow up with Lola!

It had always been him or some other version of himself!

He lifted his gaze slightly and looked at Charlotte.

Charlotte stood quietly by the floor-to-ceiling window, and after a long time, she whispered, "Frederick, even if I don't want to admit it, you and he are actually two different people."

For those three years, Frederick took care of Lola alone.

He loved Lola deeply, willing to sacrifice everything.

But the man in front of her, rational and calm, was no longer the same as before.

Charlotte wasn't trying to give up.

She was just a bit sad.

She stood in the darkness, her silhouette looking lonely.

Frederick's lips moved slightly.

He had a hundred ways to defend himself, but he couldn't speak.

Because at this moment, Charlotte looked so sad.

Was she missing the other him?

On the winter night, fine snow began to fall.

The room was fully heated and warm, a thin layer of fog formed on the floor-to-ceiling window.

Charlotte extended her slender fingers, gently tracing the glass. Her voice slightly hoarse. "Frederick, you turned me into someone like you, but you went back alone."

The man in front of her was not him.

Their souls couldn't connect.

Even if they did the most intimate things in bed, she always felt empty deep inside.

This kind of Charlotte was enough to make any man's heart flutter.

Frederick slowly walked over, embraced her thin body from behind, his face close to her ear, and asked in a low voice, "Was he that good? What was so good about him?"

He knew he shouldn't, but he still felt uncomfortable.

He thought about how this woman might have been very free with her sexuality with another version of himself in bed.

The rosy glow on her cheeks and the bewitching sound of her voice were all stirred by another person.

He felt extremely uncomfortable.

Charlotte turned her face slightly. "Do you want to know?"

Frederick hummed in response and then began to kiss her delicately and reverently, from her cheek to behind her ear and down to her neck.

Charlotte gently turned around, obediently kissing him back.

After a long kiss, she leaned against his warm neck and whispered, "If you want to see, I'll show you."

Late at night, Charlotte left.

She left a videotape for Frederick, letting him watch it slowly.

In the black and gray-themed bedroom, Frederick, wearing only a bathrobe, leaned on the oversized bed, casually turning on the remote.

In just one second, he was shocked by the scene.

It was Frederick and Charlotte's last time together; he was sitting in the study, and Charlotte was serving him attentively, even though she was about four months pregnant.

Frederick watched intently, his long legs stretching and curling on the bed sheet.

His heart almost jumped out.

He saw another version of himself gently tugging Charlotte's long hair and kissing her tenderly. "Charlotte, that's enough."

He saw them kissing heartbreakingly.

The blue light flickered in the dim bedroom.

Frederick watched the short ten-minute video countless times.

In the morning, Frederick felt different and asked about Charlotte as soon as he went downstairs.

Dana smiled and said, "Charlotte left early. It seems like she went to the airport to pick someone up."

Frederick felt somewhat disappointed.

He sat down, quietly drinking coffee, but his mind was filled with Charlotte's melancholy from last night and their past intimacy in the video.

He couldn't believe Charlotte would be willing to do that for a man.

In the past six months, they had been intimate several times, and he thought he had moments of ecstasy, but after seeing that video, he realized Charlotte had never fully immersing herself in his bed. Not even once.

Perhaps it was a man's desire for conquest; he was eager to have her.

He wanted to see her succumb, to see her lost in love.

But she had run off early in the morning.

Frederick was frustrated both emotionally and physically.

The work was busy and he wouldn't drop everything to chase after Charlotte like a young man, but he was still frustrated by Charlotte's infuriating behavior.

At noon, he called Charlotte.

Charlotte answered.

After last night, their relationship was different, especially since Frederick was quite stimulated.

He leaned back in his chair, his long fingers gently loosening his tie, his tone softer than usual. "There's a play tonight. Chloe said it's acted by an actor you like. Shall we go watch it?"

At the Vertex Innovations Group, Charlotte stood by the large floor-to-ceiling window, watching the snow outside.

She knew Frederick was pursuing her, and from what she knew of him, he was probably stimulated by the video.

He definitely wanted more.

He wanted it, but Charlotte didn't want to give, at least not now.

Her slender fingers gently traced the cold glass, and she laughed softly. "Can't you even find someone to watch a play with?"

There was a hint of flirtation and teasing in her words.

Frederick was a man, and any man would like that.

He chuckled lowly, quite honestly saying, "We'll watch the play first, and then we won't go back home tonight. We'll stay at a hotel, and we can enjoy the snow while drinking red wine."
