Chapter 120: Fight for Her Own Happiness
Frederick watched it again, but even he couldn't explain it. He wasn't entirely innocent either.
Lately, Katherine had been hanging around him a lot.
He didn't respond to her advances.
But everyone knew what it meant when an ex clung to you all day.
Frederick found it amusing.
It was a bit of a thrill for him.
But he had no plans to get back with her or be her lover again.
Charlotte didn't ask, and he didn't plan to explain.
Charlotte brought out the noodles while Frederick still held her phone.
The atmosphere was awkward.
Charlotte broke the silence, "Lily means well, don't be hard on her."
Frederick put down the phone.
He chuckled, "You worry about others a lot. Why not worry about yourself?"
Charlotte shot back, "Frederick, do you want me to care or not?"
Frederick's breathing got heavier.
He couldn't answer.
Charlotte knew they couldn't communicate, so she looked down and gave a self-mocking smile. "Whatever you want, I can act it out for you."
Sensing the tension, she changed the subject. "You eat first, I'll go shower."
She had only taken two steps when he grabbed her arm.
She turned around.
Frederick frowned.
He had no interest in the spaghetti, just held onto Charlotte's arm, not even sure what he wanted.
He didn't regret it.
What Charlotte wanted, he couldn't give because he didn't want to get married.
Heartache? Not really.
He just wasn't used to this new Charlotte; she felt unfamiliar.
She seemed indifferent, like nothing mattered.
Frederick had come home early that night, eager to be with her, but her indifference killed his mood.
Maybe being intimate would only make things worse.
Charlotte and Frederick were at a standstill.
He didn't let her go, but he didn't comfort her either, and he wouldn't come back to the apartment on time every day.
Charlotte didn't care, but Maria was getting restless.
A few days later, Maria called, inviting Charlotte to go shopping.
After the call, Charlotte thought, Maria was usually frugal, now she wanted to buy clothes? Unlikely. She must want to talk about Frederick.
As expected, when they shopped, Maria insisted on buying clothes for Charlotte, saying girls must dress beautifully.
Charlotte agreed, to please her.
While having coffee, Charlotte lightly touched Maria's hand. "I have plenty of clothes, no need to waste money."
Maria glanced at her.
Then, Maria lowered her voice. "What's going on with you and Frederick? How did an old flame suddenly appear, such a pretty girl, clinging to him all day?"
Charlotte smiled faintly.
She took a sip of coffee and said, "That's their business, Maria. It's not my place to interfere."
Maria felt sorry for her.
She cursed softly, "When he was pursuing you, he was always picking you up, staying with you in the hospital, and helping you with Ethan."
Maria got more upset, "How come after he got you, he doesn't cherish you anymore? How are you not as good as her?"
Charlotte handed Maria a tissue.
Maria wiped her tears and said, "Don't blame me for being nosy! I really thought Frederick would treat you right."
Charlotte patted her hand.
She gently reassured, "He was clear from the start. There's nothing to fuss about. As for Miss Mitchell, her chasing him is her business, and if Frederick allows it, that's his issue. Maria, I can't blame her!"
Maybe Frederick didn't think it was a big deal.
But to Charlotte, his indulgence was ambiguous enough.
She planned to leave Frederick eventually, so why compete with another woman?
She told Maria she wanted to focus on her career now.
Maria was finally appeased.
She smiled through her tears. "It's good you understand! Focusing on your career is great."
Charlotte spent more time with her, bought some things for the house, and personally took Maria home.
Back at the apartment, Charlotte guessed Frederick wouldn't return for dinner, so she made something simple.
But just as she finished, there was a knock on the door.
Charlotte was surprised. Who could it be at this time?
Looking through the peephole, she saw it was Chloe.
Chloe was carrying several bags. As soon as she entered, she placed them by the door, saying, "Charlotte, my mom asked me to bring these over for you."
Charlotte saw they were expensive items: two limited edition platinum bags, a Patek Philippe diamond watch, and some accessories.
Just as she was about to refuse, Chloe had already started eating the meal unceremoniously.
After finishing, Chloe finally spoke, "So delicious! Charlotte, make another one later."
Then she remembered her task.
Chloe said, "Charlotte, let's go out and have some fun!"
Charlotte was cleaning up the dishes, smiling faintly. "Where to?"
Chloe, looking a bit mischievous, said, "A good place; just come with me."
Afraid Charlotte would refuse, she added, "You left early on my birthday, consider it making up for it."
Charlotte liked her, so she agreed after thinking about it.
Chloe pushed her to the walk-in closet, personally picking out a dress and accessories for her.
She picked a light pink tulle long dress for Charlotte.
The waist was cinched tightly, very romantic and beautiful.
With Charlotte's hair color, she looked like a top actress.
Chloe was a bit stunned, murmuring, "How could Frederick leave a beauty at home and gallivant around outside?" Then she stuck out her tongue, embarrassed.
Charlotte wasn't angry.
She took her phone and put on a pair of nude high heels.
Charlotte asked, "Where are we going?"
Chloe didn't dare say that her mom had cried every day at home but couldn't interfere, so she specifically asked her to take Charlotte out.
Laura had instructed, "Frederick is still single at his age, finally met Charlotte and now he's driving her away! Chloe, you can't just stand by!"
Chloe had to agree and then came to find Charlotte.
When Charlotte asked, she mysteriously said, "It's a good place!"
Chloe drove over, asking Charlotte to sit in her car.
Charlotte couldn't resist her enthusiasm.
Half an hour later, the red sports car stopped in front of the "Serene Oasis" club.
The doorman recognized Chloe.
He respectfully called out "Miss Hawkins," but his eyes stole a glance at Charlotte, who was quite beautiful and unfamiliar.
Chloe noticed, feeling proud.
Of course, Charlotte was beautiful!
Charlotte followed her to the third-floor VIP suite area, asking, "Did you invite other friends?"
Chloe stopped at suite 308.
She opened the door and invited Charlotte in, feeling very guilty, "Yes, quite a few friends."
Charlotte, unsuspecting, walked in.
Once inside and adjusted to the light, she was stunned.
She knew almost everyone in the suite: Frederick, Oliver, their friends, and of course, Katherine.
Charlotte turned to look at Chloe.
Chloe ran away quickly.
"Charlotte! You have to fight for your own happiness!"
