Chapter 870 Between Her and Grant, Only Thanks Remain!
After their conversation, Clayton didn't start the car right away.
He gave Natalie a moment to pull herself together. Her eyes were still wet, but she managed a soft, "Let's go."
Clayton made sure she was okay before starting the car.
During the drive, he held her hand the whole time, not wanting to let go.
He wanted a fresh start with her. There were so many things he wanted to say, so many things he wanted to do with her, but he was scared of pushing her away... or worse, making her uncomfortable.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the McCall Villa.
Haven had been staying there for a few days and missed Natalie. As soon as the car stopped, she ran over. Natalie had barely stepped out of the car before Haven threw herself into her arms, snuggling close.
Natalie knelt down and kissed her gently, her expression soft and tender.
Clayton was overwhelmed with emotion.
The girl he once liked had grown into a woman, exuding a gentle femininity. The lively girl she once was seemed almost gone, but his desire for her only grew stronger. He longed for her to treat him with the same tenderness.
He could see that Natalie missed Haven too.
Her eyes were wet, clearly moved.
He walked over and gently patted her shoulder, then picked up Haven, speaking softly, "Ready to head home?"
Natalie replied, "Yeah."
Grant came out of the villa, carrying a pink suitcase filled with gifts and toys for Haven. He watched the couple with a deep gaze.
After a long moment, he spoke softly, "Leave her clothes here. She can use them next time she stays over."
Haven, who had been ready to leave, suddenly didn't want to go.
She slid down from Clayton's arms and went to Grant for a hug.
Grant held her, gently patting her little legs. "Kids grow so fast. Her pants are getting short. Remember to get her some new ones soon!"
Natalie agreed.
Grant seemed like he wanted to say more, but in the end, he just held Haven. The past between him and Natalie seemed to drift away with the wind... after all, they both had new partners now.
What remained was his reluctance to part with Haven.
Natalie understood his feelings and spoke softly, "If you and Nancy are willing, once Haven starts school, she can spend her winter and summer breaks with you. Of course, only if she wants to."
Haven cupped Grant's face and kissed him gently.
Grant patted her head and thanked Natalie. Their relationship had come to this point where all they could say was thank you.
Thank you for the companionship, thank you for the understanding, thank you for today.
So much was left unsaid.
Clayton felt a pang of jealousy!
But he understood that love has its own timeline. No matter how much it stung, he couldn't change the order of things...
He thought, if he had a choice, he would still choose to be the one who came later, the one who ended up with her.
Thinking this, his jealousy eased a bit.
As Haven was about to leave, Nancy came out of the house. She wasn't fully recovered and shouldn't be out in the wind, but she came to see Haven off.
She gave Haven a small toy, and when she knelt down, Haven kissed her too.
Nancy smiled through her tears.
As the Cullinan slowly drove away, Grant took off his coat and draped it over Nancy, scolding gently, "Why did you come out? It's windy, and you're still weak. You could catch a cold!"
Nancy leaned against him, and they walked back to the house together.
She spoke softly, "Grant, let's just have this one child, okay?"
Grant looked at her, surprised. He thought Nancy loved children and would want another daughter.
Nancy shook her head. She didn't tell Grant that it wasn't that she didn't want another child, but she was afraid of having a daughter.
This was just right.
Grant already had a son and a daughter. Another child might upset the balance. He had someone else in his heart, so let him love that child... this was her way of loving him.
From beginning to end, it was her willing sacrifice.
The sunset was a warm orange, and Nancy's expression was gentle. Saying she had no regrets would be a lie... but she preferred a calm, peaceful life. The thrilling moments were for the younger Grant and Natalie.
Her husband Grant loved her now, and that was enough.
Besides, Haven was adorable, and she liked her very much.
Inside, the sound of a baby crying could be heard. It was their son, Lance, whom Grant adored...
He would get up twice a night to check on him, holding Lance and soothing him gently. He was a rare, wonderful father.
So, Nancy was willing to support him, little by little.
