Chapter 563 Lola, Are You Going to Leave Me Again?

Lola headed over to the law firm.

She spent almost the whole day buried in ledgers. Around noon, Angelina called, asking softly if she wanted to grab lunch together.

Lola figured Johnny had put Angelina up to it.

After a moment's thought, she told Angelina there wasn't enough time to go back and forth for lunch.

Angelina quickly hung up because the secretary had just brought in some delicious-smelling food.

Lola put down her phone, leaned back in her leather chair, and thought about Angelina and Johnny.

She could tell Johnny still had feelings for her, but so much had happened and so many years had passed. Things were different now.

She couldn't forget the eight years he was gone and how, just when they were getting back on track, he got involved with Melissa again.

Lola smiled faintly.

Just then, Molly called, saying she was nearby and wanted to have lunch, probably to ask some legal questions too.

Lola checked the time; it was lunchtime, so she agreed.

Her secretary knocked and asked about her lunch plans. Lola grabbed her coat and said, "I have an appointment with Molly."

The secretary smiled. "It's been a while since we've seen her!"

Lola paused. "She's doing quite well."

A few minutes later, Lola arrived at a restaurant across the street. It had a nice vibe and was pretty busy.

Molly was already there when she called.

Seeing Lola, she waved gently. "Over here."

Lola walked over and sat down. Before they could order, Molly stared at her and asked softly, "You and Johnny got your marriage certificate, right?"

Lola blushed. "Did Gavin tell you?"

Molly's voice got even softer. "Actually, everyone knows! Johnny's been giving out gifts everywhere."

They looked down to order, but Molly was more interested in Lola's love life, asking cautiously and with a bit of curiosity.

Lola felt that Molly was really doing well!

Even with her timid nature, Gavin had managed to bring out a bit of a chatty side in her, and she quite liked being close to people. Somehow, Lola felt a bit envious.

She exhaled lightly. "Let's see how things go with him and me."

Molly smiled awkwardly.

Lola called the waiter, gave a few soft instructions, and was about to look away when she paused.

A few booths away, she saw Kingsley. Across from him sat a very petite girl, who looked like his secretary, fair-skinned and delicate.

The secretary was currently serving Kingsley.

Kingsley was impeccably dressed, even on an ordinary day, wearing a pristine white scarf.

The secretary even cut his steak for him.

If Lola didn't know her pretentious brother so well, she might have thought he was quite dismissive of the girl across from him. But Kingsley had never dined with a woman before, especially not in a setting suitable for couples.

He was obsessed with cleanliness and didn't like people touching his stuff, yet he let the secretary cut his steak. And the way he looked at her was pretty intense.

Lola smiled faintly.

Molly noticed too and whispered, "Why is Kingsley having lunch with Amara?"

Lola rested her chin on her hand, thinking. Amara looked delicate, with a lively personality. Maybe that's what attracted Kingsley!

Lola watched for a bit, confirming that Kingsley and Amara weren't in a relationship yet.

Lola didn't plan to go over and greet them, but Kingsley saw her and got up to walk over. After a few steps, he probably didn't see Amara and said, "Come with me."

Amara had been serving him, having only eaten a small piece of steak. She was still hungry.

But he paid her a high salary, so she didn't dare offend him.

She didn't really know why Kingsley wanted her to go over and say hello. She knew Lola and Molly.

"Lola!" Kingsley calmly sat next to Lola, nodded at Molly, and then looked at Amara. "Greet them!"

Amara felt a bit uneasy, but she still greeted them. Kingsley thought she addressed them incorrectly, so he wasn't very nice to her.

Molly smiled awkwardly.

Lola sighed lightly. "Kingsley, you can't treat girls like this."

He was 27, pursuing a girl, and still so domineering. It was obvious he liked her!

Lola gently said to Amara, "He's not usually like this! Very gentlemanly!"

Amara sneaked a glance at Kingsley. His expression was even colder than before.

Kingsley just came over to say a few words, "Dad heard you got your marriage certificate and said to come home for dinner when you have time! Stop acting like you're up to something."

Lola snorted lightly.

Kingsley raised his chin slightly, signaling Amara to return to her seat and continue eating. He was still quite domineering with her, making all sorts of picky demands.

Molly had long forgotten the purpose of this meal and couldn't help but say, "Kingsley seems to really like Amara."

Lola smiled faintly. "It's the first time I've seen him like this!"

Usually, Kingsley wasn't interested in girls, but he still had basic manners and upbringing, unlike now, clearly bullying Amara.

Lola didn't ask much, after all, their relationship wasn't confirmed yet. She had to wait until Kingsley brought Amara home to talk about it!

After lunch, Lola and Molly returned to the law firm.

As soon as she entered the office, the secretary came in with a document in hand. "There's a pretty tricky case in Bostan. Howard and the team might not be able to handle it."

Lola took the document and looked it over.

Her brows furrowed slightly; it was indeed quite troublesome.

Moreover, the case involved a huge amount of money, and under favorable conditions, losing it would greatly impact the firm's reputation. So she decided to take a trip.

Of course, she could already guess that Johnny would be unhappy when she told him in the evening.

Leaving Angelina with him might improve his mood a bit!

Lola left the firm at four in the afternoon.

On her drive home, Lola got a call from Frederick. He sounded a bit reserved. "I heard you're living with Johnny now! Why not bring him home for us to see?"

Lola held the steering wheel and smiled faintly. "You've seen him for over 20 years, isn't that enough?"

"It's different now!"

Lola thought for a moment and said, "I have to go on a business trip for a few days. Let's talk when I get back!"

Before Frederick could object, she hung up the phone.

After hanging up, she felt a bit unsettled.

Everyone knew she and Johnny had reconciled, but they didn't know it was because of Angelina's illness. Even Lola herself didn't know how long this marriage would last!

Nowadays, she couldn't figure out Johnny's temperament.

Even if she was willing to get along peacefully with him, she had no idea where their future would lead, so she could only adapt as things go.

When Lola returned to the villa, the housekeeper was already preparing dinner. Seeing her return, one called out, "Lola, take a rest. Dinner will be ready when Johnny gets back!"

Lola had booked a 9 PM flight.

She nodded, thinking that if Johnny came back early, they might have dinner together.

Lola went into the walk-in closet and pulled out a small suitcase.

She packed two sets of clothes and some toiletries, zipped it up, and as she stood up, she noticed a small familiar box in the drawer. She couldn't help but pick it up and gently open it.

It was a diamond ring she had worn before. She remembered how delighted she was when she first wore it. Lola once loved him deeply, but she left without a final word. It wasn't that she never gave him a chance; he chose to keep things hidden. The scene she saw that morning was unforgettable and unbearable for her.

Lola's expression turned a bit cold as she gently put the ring back in its place. Behind her, she heard soft footsteps—it was Johnny.

He looked at the suitcase she had packed and the clothes she was wearing for going out.

Instantly, his voice turned cold. "Where are you going again?"

Lola had just turned around when he grabbed her and pinned her against the closet door.

Johnny's hot breath brushed against the back of her delicate ear as he asked again in a deep voice, "Where are you going? To find Darren? Are you planning to leave me and Angelina?"

Lola felt a bit dizzy and instinctively retorted, "No!"

But Johnny didn't listen to her explanation. He kissed her hard, urgently and roughly, while lifting her skirt and teasing her freely.

Lola didn't like being forced into these things, especially since he had made her uncomfortable the night before. She pushed against his shoulder in resistance, but it only angered Johnny more. He looked up, his eyes darkened. "Not letting me feel you?"

He kissed her again, his words becoming more vulgar. "It's only been a week of recovery! Can't you hold out? Does Darren satisfy you like I do?"

Lola slapped him.

In the 400-square-foot walk-in closet, it went silent, the sound of the slap echoing.

Johnny didn't care about his reddened face. He just stared at Lola.

Lola's eyes were a bit red, and she didn't want to say a word to him.

After a long while, she pushed past him and walked out.

"Lola!" Johnny grabbed her, his tone softening. "Let's talk."

Lola didn't want Angelina downstairs to hear, so she lowered her voice. "I'm just going to Bostan for a business trip! We'll talk when I get back!"

Johnny exhaled slightly.

He wanted to say more, but Lola didn't want to listen. What he had said earlier was really harsh.

She calmly said, "Johnny, since we're married, I don't want to argue with you during this time."

She rubbed her temples. "I have to leave at seven! My flight is at nine."

Johnny still leaned against the wardrobe.

He took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a couple of slow drags. Then, he stubbed it out.

He pulled a small box from his pants pocket, walked over to her, turned her around, and silently placed a ring on her slender ring finger. He had a matching ring on his finger.

Lola didn't resist. She quietly watched as Johnny's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. "Let's go downstairs for dinner. I'll drive you to the airport later."

"No need, I'll drive myself."

Johnny frowned but didn't say anything. He could feel that what had just happened had pushed Lola further away.

He didn't insist on driving her, but he did call for a driver.

Angelina was very reluctant, sitting in Lola's lap and softly calling her mom.

Lola wanted to take her along, but considering Angelina's health, it was better for her to stay in Syeattel.

She planned to shorten her time in Bostan, intending to be back in three days at most.

In the end, Angelina insisted on seeing her off, and Johnny got in the car as well.

Jared drove. In the back seat were Angelina and a couple with their own thoughts.

The events of the evening were unpleasant, and in front of Jared and Angelina, they couldn't bring it up again.

At the airport, Lola kissed Angelina for a long time.

She also told Johnny about some of Angelina's habits. Johnny noticed that Lola's emotions were much more stable now, perhaps because she was a mother.

Lola originally planned to return in three days. But the situation there was indeed difficult to resolve. In the end, Lola not only gave advice to the legal team but also found some reliable connections in Bostan to settle the case.

A week later, she returned on the same flight as her colleagues from the Wise Counsel Law Firm. At the exit, she planned to take a cab home, but to her surprise, Johnny was there to pick her up.

"Lola," he called her name.

Lola was slightly stunned.

They had been in contact over the past few days, but mostly about Angelina. There were no affectionate words between them as a couple. They were once the most familiar people, but now they were becoming strangers.

Lola hadn't yet recovered from her surprise when someone beside her teased. "Newlyweds are always so close!"

Lola then remembered that Johnny's recovery period was over.
