Chapter 746 He Pleases Her, Makes Her Happy, and Wants to Start over with Her 2
Lola didn't want to know.
She ate her meal in silence, ignoring Johnny's intense gaze beside her.
When she finished, she looked up and asked, "Why aren't you eating?"
Johnny was about to clear the tray. At her words, his long fingers trembled imperceptibly. He looked at her slowly and spoke deliberately, "Lola, do you still care about me?"
Lola's face was glowing, maybe from the nourishing soup she had just consumed.
She replied calmly, "We're supposed to live together for 60 days. This is just normal conversation. Or do you prefer me to stay distant? If that's what you want, I can do that too."
Before she could finish, he hugged her tightly.
His arms wrapped around her slender shoulders, pulling her into his embrace. His head lowered, pressing against hers, his lips brushing the back of her neck. This posture enveloped Lola completely, reminiscent of their wedding vows.
"Lola, I will protect you."
"You won't have to struggle anymore. I'll share the burden with you."
"From today, you are Mrs. Flores."
But they ended up divorced. Vertex Innovations Group became Lola's burden once again. He hadn't fulfilled his wedding promises. He had broken his vows.
He fail to make Lola happy, and their marriage became a cage for her, no longer the carefree life they once had, especially with three kids.
People said Lola resembled Frederick, but Johnny knew she was more like Charlotte.
Johnny's voice was shaky and filled with regret, "It's my fault! It's my fault! Lola, give me another chance. I'll be a good husband and father."
He hugged her tighter, almost crushing her bones.
"It hurts, Johnny..."
She whimpered in his arms. It took a moment for Johnny to realize and he quickly loosened his grip. Lola looked down, tears glistening in her eyes. Her expression tugged at his heart.
"Lola."
He couldn't control himself. His lips trembled as he kissed her. He pressed his lips to hers, feeling a surge of emotion, but he didn't deepen the kiss. He just stayed close, gently brushing against her lips.
Lola's body stiffened.
As Johnny touched her, she instinctively thought of the video of him kissing Shirley and the image which him touching Shirley's body. The sounds of their passion were like a thousand-pound hammer crushing her heart, making it hard to breathe.
But she didn't push Johnny away. They were so close, their breaths mingling.
After a long while, Lola gently pushed his waist, "That's enough."
He rested his forehead against hers, gazing deeply into her eyes. His gaze was so dark she couldn't read it, and she didn't dare to. She whispered, "I want to sleep."
"I'll sleep with you! I'll take the tray downstairs and come back up."
"Aren't you going to eat?"
"I'm not hungry. I'll eat when I wake up, then I'll pick up Angelina and Austin."
Johnny couldn't help but kiss Lola's face again before heading downstairs.
Lola slowly lay down on the bed.
She leaned against the edge, feeling a wave of nausea. She knew why but chose to ignore it.
She lay there quietly until she felt someone lie down beside her.
Johnny hadn't taken off his clothes, only removing the belt around his waist to avoid discomforting her.
As he removed the belt, he whispered in her ear, "If I left it on for two hours, your waist would be red all over."
Lola didn't respond.
She lay on her side, watching Stella in the crib. Stella was sleeping soundly, probably because she was well-fed. Lola wanted to look at her, but she didn't want to show too much affection in front of Johnny.
But Johnny understood her thoughts. He kissed the back of her neck and gently asked, "Do you want me to bring the baby over for you to see?"
Lola refused softly, "She's asleep. We'll see her when she wakes up."
Johnny didn't insist.
He stretched out his arm, letting Lola lie in his embrace. They rarely did this even when they were at their best. Lola felt that the current Johnny was a Yandere.
"What are you thinking? I'm warm. Come and lean on me to sleep."
Seeing Lola not move, Johnny simply pulled her into his arms, holding her carefully to avoid hurting her. His chin rested on her head, his voice low and deep, "You just had a baby. Even if I were a jerk, I wouldn't ask you to have sex with me."
He was indeed warm, and Lola didn't think he was that perverted.
She closed her eyes.
At first, her body was still a bit stiff, but as fatigue set in, she relaxed, leaning against his shoulder.
Johnny watched her sleeping face. She wasn't as youthful as before, but still exquisitely beautiful. He couldn't resist tracing her features with his hand. After a long time, he leaned in, pressing his face against hers.
He felt a surge of emotion, a sense of having regained something precious. Johnny knew he would never forget this moment for the rest of his life.
Lola woke up in the afternoon, surprised to find Johnny not in bed. Instead, she heard the children's voices downstairs and Johnny's.
Lola sat up abruptly, looking out the window. It was already dusk.
How long had she slept?
Just then, the nursery door opened, and Johnny walked in. Their eyes met, and Lola was still a bit dazed.
Johnny walked over to the crib and checked on Stella.
He said softly, "It's almost seven! You didn't wake up, so I went to pick up Angelina and Austin."
Lola's lips moved.
Johnny noticed and smiled faintly, "I already ate!"
The atmosphere was a bit awkward. Lola ran a hand through her golden hair and got out of bed, "I'll freshen up and then go downstairs to eat."
Johnny suggested, "Let's stay upstairs. It rained a bit, and it's damp downstairs."
Lola thought for a moment and agreed.
The nursery wasn't a permanent solution, so eventually, they had the servants move Stella's crib to the master bedroom. As soon as the servants left, Johnny picked Lola up.
"What are you doing?"
Lola grabbed his shirt sleeve, lowering her eyes, "Put me down!"
Johnny gazed at her.
After a moment, he said, "When you had Austin, I carried you to the bathroom. You haven't gained any weight over the years."
Lola found him annoying, "Put me down. The kids will see."
"Are you worried about the kids seeing, or are you afraid of me?"
He pressed her, and Lola, clutching his sleeve, thought for a moment before saying, "I'm not used to this. Johnny, we agreed on 60 days, but you're rushing things."
They had been apart for almost a year.
They were practically strangers.
But Johnny wouldn't let go. He carried her back to the master bedroom. As they passed the long glass corridor, he suddenly stopped, pressing her against the brick-red wall. He didn't forget she was afraid of the cold, using one hand to support her back.
Johnny lowered his head, his lips brushing her ear.
He whispered hoarsely, "Do you remember your birthday two years ago? You got drunk, and we made love right here. I still remember how it felt. Do you?"
"I forgot!"
Lola answered quickly and urgently. She didn't want to remember those shameful memories.
That night had been wild.
By that time, their relationship was already in a bad place. That night, she had been drunk and willing to make love with him. So for the next month, Johnny kept giving her drinks to have sex with her.
But a broken marriage couldn't be saved with intoxicated sex.
Just thinking about it made her feel empty.
Lola recalled those moments, and her pale complexion finally took on a faint blush, making her look quite endearing.
She was strong and assertive in the workplace.
But Johnny remembered how soft and gentle she was beneath him.
How much she loved being held by him, how she called his name like a kitten when she lost herself in the moment, "Johnny... Johnny."
He gazed at her gently.
He said softly, "Lola, I won't let you forget. I'll make you remember everything."
The air was silent. After a long time, Lola smiled faintly.
She said, "I'd rather forget everything! The good and the bad, all of it. If I can break myself down and rebuild, I wouldn't have to feel so much pain."
It was the first time she admitted her pain to him.
Johnny's throat tightened. He asked softly, "Lola, do I still make you feel pain now?"
