Chapter 273 It's Normal to Be Intimate For Couple
Frederick wrapped up his spiel and yanked out some clothes from the closet.
He started changing right in front of Charlotte.
Charlotte just stood there, watching him quietly.
Once he was done, he locked eyes with her, ready to throw some snarky comment, but his phone buzzed.
He glanced at the screen; it was Patrick. "Hey, Dad."
Frederick's eyes narrowed as he looked at Charlotte. "Yeah, she's here with me. We'll be there for dinner tonight."
He hung up, sounding all indifferent. "Dad wants us over for dinner tonight. I'm swamped, so you take the kid and head over first."
Charlotte knew he wasn't busy; he just didn't want to deal with her.
She didn't push it and agreed easily. They both headed downstairs in silence.
Frederick had the driver take her, while he hopped into his black McLaren.
Charlotte stepped up, separated by the car door.
Her voice was calm. "Frederick, you can be cold to me, but Lola's sensitive. Don't say that stuff in front of her."
Frederick thought about the kid in the photos.
She looked a lot like Charlotte, pale skin and curly hair.
Pretty cute, actually.
He gave a slight, cold nod. "Don't worry."
Charlotte felt a bit relieved.
She watched the black sports car disappear, not sure if she felt happy or sad. She had been so full of fight, but after his treatment, she wasn't sure anymore.
She stood there for a long time.
Jared, feeling bad for her, stepped up and said softly, "Charlotte, let's get in the car. It's not good for you to stand too long."
Charlotte gently held her waist and forced a smile. "Yeah, it does hurt a bit."
She took the car back to the villa.
Once back, she locked herself in the study, drawing all the curtains.
The room was dim.
Charlotte leaned on the sofa, listening to the voice recorder Frederick had left her. She played it over and over until she felt a bit of hope return.
In the evening, she picked up Lola and headed to Hawkins Mansion.
As soon as they walked in, Gavin rushed over, calling out, "Charlotte."
Charlotte squatted down and gently patted his little head.
Gavin's face turned a bit red.
Lola made a funny face. "Why does a boy always blush?"
Patrick and Laura came over.
Laura took the kids for dessert, while Patrick stayed to chat with Charlotte. "Have you seen him?"
Charlotte nodded.
She didn't want to trouble or upset the elders, so she kept things to herself.
But Patrick already knew.
He looked at Charlotte and said slowly, "Aren't you mad at his demands? Charlotte, what I want to tell you is, don't let his sacrifices make you put up with his crap. You don't need me to remind you how much of a jerk Frederick used to be. Constantly putting up with it isn't a long-term solution. You slapped him so many times, and didn't he still beg you to get back together?"
Charlotte kept quiet.
Patrick knew she had a soft spot and couldn't bring herself to be harsh with Frederick.
As a dad, he was in a tough spot.
Frederick rolled in around seven, just in time for dinner.
The sports car pulled up, and Lola dashed over, hugging his legs and rubbing her little face against them. "Daddy, I missed you so much."
Frederick stiffened a bit.
He wasn't used to kids, but holding Lola made his heart melt a little.
Was this what they called blood ties?
Patrick watched Frederick with Lola, no rejection on his face, but he felt pretty sad and upset inside.
Frederick had no clue how much he had loved Lola before.
Laura even wiped away some tears.
Dinner was kinda quiet.
Frederick and Charlotte sat together, but there was a huge gap between them.
One couldn't remember the other.
The other felt awkward because of his amnesia.
Patrick really wanted to bring them together; he thought if they just slept together, they'd slowly get used to each other.
After dinner, Frederick wiped his mouth. "Dad, I got a case; I need to head back to the office."
Patrick wasn't happy. "Is your case more important than family?"
He gave Laura a look. "Fix up Frederick's old room, let the couple have a good talk tonight, and Lola will sleep with us."
Laura, always doing what he said, went to do it right away.
Frederick gave a faint smile.
He lit a cigarette and slowly walked upstairs, his back showing how detached he was.
Charlotte felt a pang of sadness.
Patrick patted her hand. "He's like this for now. Be patient with him."
Charlotte nodded.
She didn't go upstairs right away but stayed downstairs with the kids, finally getting Lola to sleep before heading to Frederick's old room.
Frederick was by the window, smoking.
Charlotte stood at the door, watching him.
His profile was perfect, and as he smoked, the smoke quickly faded away.
Sensing her gaze, Frederick turned to look at her, then put out the cigarette, his tone cold. "Did you tell him?"
Charlotte closed the door. She slowly walked up to him and gently hugged his waist under his gaze.
"Dad figured it out himself. Frederick, we're a couple. I don't want to live apart from you; I want to be close to you. Isn't that normal?"
Frederick's gaze was hard to read. He leaned back comfortably, looking down at the woman in his arms.
She was soft and obedient, looking like she was at his mercy. He got a bit interested and asked hoarsely, "Do you want it that badly?"
He had heard that women could do it three months into pregnancy.
