Chapter 451 You Were Still the One I Missed the Most
Andrew stood quietly at the bathroom door, just watching.
In the dead of night, under that dim yellow light, her profile looked so gentle, and those tears were like crystal.
He knew what was on her mind; she was heartbroken.
Andrew watched for a long time. She was lost in her thoughts, not even noticing him.
He walked over, took the medicine bottle from her hand, and said softly, "I stocked up on these meds before my discharge, as some of them are not available here. I don't take most of them every day, just a couple regularly.."
Chloe looked up at him, tears still on her cheeks.
Andrew gently hugged her, pressing her face against his chest and stomach, softly stroking her hair.
Chloe slowly wrapped her arms around his waist, her fingers trembling a bit.
Andrew asked, his voice hoarse, "Are you heartbroken?"
She stayed silent in his arms for a long time before saying in a trembling voice, "Andrew, I was so scared!"
That was all she said. The rest, she was too embarrassed to voice. She had loved him for so many years, but now she couldn't be as carefree as when she was young.
Andrew gently rubbed her hair. He didn't push her, just held her like that.
It wasn't until now that they allowed their hearts to drift closer., and they could truly feel at ease. They dared to believe that all of this wasn't a dream.
Chloe didn't cry anymore. As she got older, she didn't want to show weakness in front of him.
How could Andrew not know her? To him, she was just a kid, and he could see through her little thoughts in an instant.
Andrew carried her to the bed and wrapped her in a blanket.
Chloe protested, patting his shoulder, "It's hot! It's summer now!"
Andrew reached into the blanket and touched her feet, "Your feet are cold." He remembered she was in good health, so how could her feet be so cold in the middle of summer?
Andrew gently held her feet in his hands. His skin was warm, and she felt comfortable.
Chloe leaned against the pillow and said softly, "Women always have some minor issues after having kids, but it's nothing serious." But Andrew insisted on warming her up.
When he lay down, facing each other, Chloe hesitated and still asked him, "How was it in Vienna? Charlotte never tells me, and I don't have the courage to ask."
Andrew thought back to those days. It was really tough. During the hardest times, he barely drank any water, let alone ate anything. When he couldn't take it anymore, he would look at photos of Chloe and Gavin, and later, Natalie.
But he didn't want to tell her all that. He reached out, letting her lie comfortably on his arm. He only mentioned the good stuff. "The snow scenery there is beautiful! From the hospital window, I could see a mountain range."
After he finished speaking, he suddenly turned off the light. He slipped into her blanket, and her clothes were lifted. Chloe clutched the bedsheet tightly. When Andrew got out of her blanket, her face was flushed, but luckily the lights were off.
Andrew lay beside her, gently touching her face. She called him a rogue. Andrew lowered his voice, with an indescribable charm, "I have been drawn to the idea of tasting your sweetness long ago." Chloe couldn't listen anymore. She turned her back to him, refusing to talk to him. So cheeky!
In the dark, Andrew looked at her thin shoulders and smiled a bit. He leaned in and whispered, "During those years, you were still the one I missed the most."
Chloe's face flushed again. Her heart fluttered, touched by his words, but then she wondered how many other women had heard his sweet talk, and she got angry again. "I'm going to sleep!"
Andrew chuckled, hugging her waist.
On Saturday morning, Adeline woke up early, and her two kids, always full of energy, were already tending to the flowers and plants in the yard. Gavin held a small shovel, his little arms surprisingly strong.
Natalie looked adorable with a flower hat on her head. She swung her little legs, following Gavin, pulling the flower and tugging the grass.
Adeline doted on the kids, letting her have fun. But soon, a tragedy struck. She touched a big caterpillar. The little girl was scared, her face wrinkled up, and then she burst into tears.
Gavin followed her gaze, saw it, chopped it in half with the shovel, and then clumsily tried to comfort his sister, but he wasn't very good at it. Natalie cried until her little face was red. Adeline also tried to comfort her, but it didn't work!
Andrew walked out of the hall, and from about ten feet away, Natalie stumbled and ran towards her dad, hugging his long legs. Andrew bent down to pick her up, letting Natalie sit on his arm.
Gavin jumped up and down beside them. He handed over a tissue, "Natalie saw a bug!"
Natalie cried again at the mention of the bug, her chubby little hands hugging Andrew's neck, refusing to come down.
Natalie's tears and snot smeared all over Andrew's expensive shirt. Andrew didn't mind. He wiped Natalie's tears and gently patted her chubby little body. Natalie clung to him.
Gavin was full of envy, but he loved Natalie and wasn't angry.
Adeline came over, looking at Natalie. She smiled and said to Andrew, "Natalie is really close to you!"
Andrew looked at the sun and told Adeline to take Gavin inside for breakfast. He carried Natalie and followed them in.
Natalie was still scared. She lay in Andrew's arms, softly asking for milk, still refusing to come down.
Andrew held her while making formula. In the end, Natalie held the bottle, drinking until she fell asleep in his arms. Her little mouth softened, the bottle slipped, and she woke up, grabbing it tightly to drink again.
Andrew held the chubby Natalie, reluctant to take his eyes off her.
Gavin was distracted from his breakfast, running over to look at Natalie. He leaned over and said, "Natalie is so cute!"
Andrew reached out to rub his golden short hair, saying gently, "Our Gavin is cute too!"
Gavin pouted, "I'm a little boy; you can't use 'cute' to describe me."
Andrew smiled.
Natalie was completely asleep; kids need a lot of sleep. Andrew thought of the one upstairs, who also loved to sleep in, and decided to carry Natalie upstairs.
Sure enough, Chloe was still sleeping.
He quietly put Natalie into Chloe's blanket.
She looked down at Natalie in her arms and kissed her. Andrew's voice was hoarse, "It's still early; you sleep with her a bit more."
Chloe hesitated a bit and thought, 'It's already eight o'clock. Sleeping in any longer would be quite improper.'
Andrew tapped her on the head, "Adeline knows you too well! No need to pretend to be all diligent!"
She bit her lip and glared at him.
Andrew was about to say something when his phone rang. It was Nathan.
He answered it and, after a few words, walked out to the balcony. But Chloe could still vaguely hear. It was about Molly, who was now adopted by Nathan and his wife and studying in Syeattel. Molly refused to speak, though her hearing was fine. She was attending a regular school. Then she got into a conflict with a classmate at school, was pushed down the stairs, and injured her leg. Nathan was looking for a good doctor.
Andrew hung up the phone and made a few more calls, clearly helping to find someone. Chloe listened quietly to him talking. She thought that hearing news about Molly again would trigger some kind of stress reaction, but in fact, she felt very calm. Maybe it was time, or maybe it was facing worse things, but she had accepted it.
Andrew talked for about 10 minutes and then returned to the bedroom.
Natalie was sleeping soundly in Chloe's arms.
Chloe looked at Andrew. He seemed a bit tense, and after a moment, he waved his phone, "Nathan needs my help with something!"
"Is it about Molly?" Chloe asked directly.
Andrew looked at her for a long time before nodding. He was afraid she would be angry, so he walked over and gently patted her head.
Chloe sat up slightly. She said, "My mom knows a really good orthopedic doctor. I'll have her get in touch."
Andrew's body stiffened slightly. He could hardly believe it.
Chloe looked down and gently stroked the child in her arms, her voice low, "Andrew, I don't like Molly, but I think our arguments about her are enough. I wouldn't go out of my way to target a child. Besides, now that she's adopted by Nathan, and they're not young anymore, they have enough to worry about."
Andrew said nothing, only gently stroking Natalie.
Chloe said, "I'll help you get in touch. You should go to the hospital and take a look."
Andrew hesitated slightly. He had planned to spend the weekend with them.
Chloe smiled faintly, "Tomorrow, you can be with us as well, and if not, there are countless weekends ahead."
What she didn't say was that as long as he was alive, she could actually compromise on anything.
Andrew nodded.
He changed his clothes and went downstairs. Gavin was doing his homework in the hall.
He looked up at Andrew.
After a moment, his little face tensed, "Dad, are you going out?"
Andrew hesitated. He didn't want to lie to Gavin, so he said, "I'm going to see Molly. I'll be back to have lunch with you."
Gavin nodded and resumed his homework. But his little fists were clenched tightly.
Andrew squatted down and patted his head. "Dad got Mom's permission! How about you come with me?"
"I have to do my homework!" Gavin's fair little face was quite aloof.
Andrew patted his head again and drove off.
As soon as he left, little Gavin put down his pen.
He looked at the door where the man had left, his rosy little mouth pressed tightly.
It was always like this! He always left them! In his heart, work was more important than them, even Molly was more important than them!
Andrew arrived at the hospital.
Nathan was busy, getting a doctor for Molly and dealing with the conflict between the children.
At the door of the ward, the parents of the other child had arrived.
Nathan was a reasonable guy, but the other side was too much. Not only did their kid bully Molly, but the parents also refused to apologize and just offered $10,000 in compensation. That money wasn't even enough for medical expenses. Plus, they showed no remorse.
Nathan's attitude was cold, and the other kid's mom started shouting, "Isn't $10,000 enough? How much do you want? I heard this child transferred from Copenhegan and comes from a poor background. What's wrong with my child saying a few words?"
Nathan was so angry he wanted to hit her.
His wife held him back and then said softly, "Andrew is here!"
Andrew had come with the doctor Laura had recommended.
The doctor didn't want to get involved in these matters and went straight into the ward to check on Molly's leg.
Andrew looked at the shrew and frowned.
The woman saw Andrew and felt a bit intimidated. She could tell Andrew had a high status.
But she had to muster her courage. The louder the voice, the more dominant the momentum.
So she continued to screech, "Calling for backup, huh? Numbers alone won't cut it. Just $10,000, no more! What's the harm in pushing her? A couple of pushes won't kill her!"
Nathan stepped forward to hit her, but his wife stopped him again.
Nathan was anxious, "At a time like this, screw being a gentleman?"
Unexpectedly, his wife stepped forward and forcefully slapped the woman in the face.
The woman immediately started to make a scene, "She hit me!"
Andrew said in a deep voice, "So what if she hit you?"
He took a step forward.
The shrew involuntarily stepped back several times until her plump body was against the wall. She looked at Andrew, "Money gives you the right to harm others physically? Did I say anything wrong? She's just an unwanted child!"
Andrew advanced step by step.
The woman swallowed hard, and her husband didn't dare to step forward to pull her back.
Andrew's voice was very low, "Let me tell you, her father was a rare young talent. He died a tragic death for the aerospace industry. Such a child deserves care, not insults."
Andrew choked up slightly. After he finished speaking, he slapped the woman. He never hit women, but today he made an exception.
Yes, Molly was secretly born by Celeste; she had set up Luke.
But Molly was innocent. She had Luke's blood in her veins, and she was already showing the same remarkable talent as Luke at the young age of 8.
The woman was stunned for a long time. When she came to her senses, her arrogance was gone. She covered her face and cried.
Her husband said gruffly, "How dare you still cry? Get our child to apologize to the little girl! If anything happens to her leg, your son will have to marry her!"
Amanda screamed, "Molly would never marry a thug!"
Andrew was speechless. He handed the couple over to Nathan and walked into the ward himself.
It had been a while since they last met, and now, seeing her, his emotions were unexpectedly tangled.
In the ward, Molly had her leg in a sling.
She had broken her leg but hadn't shed a tear, remaining composed.
When Andrew walked in, she looked at him, her lips moved slightly.
