Chapter 297 Charlotte, is there still a chance for us

Frederick had always lived the high life, indulging in every whim.

But right now, he was freaking out like never before, feeling like he'd lost something big.

He wanted to hold onto it.

But Charlotte had already made up her mind to let go.

He'd been reading her diary and listening to the recordings.

What really messed with his head was how he'd treated Charlotte lately.

He allowed Brenda to stay at the office for her internship.

He blamed Charlotte for being relentless. After feeling ignored, he let Brenda get close, testing his feelings for Charlotte.

He got tangled up in scandals with a movie star.

Charlotte didn't make a scene; she just calmly signed the papers, finally giving up on their relationship!

She didn't want him anymore!

"Charlotte!" Frederick slowly walked over and called her name.

Charlotte stood tall, bathed in sunlight, the diamond ring on her finger sparkling and stabbing at Frederick's eyes.

He croaked, "I read the diary and heard the recordings!"

He had so much to say, but right now, he couldn't get a single word out.

Frederick felt totally lost.

The emotions in the recordings were way more intense than his old fling with Katherine. He listened to his own voice, pouring out feelings for another woman!

Hearing this, Charlotte was stunned for a moment.

But she quickly pulled herself together. She didn't ask anything else, just softly said, "Where's the box?"

Frederick's voice was rough. "It's in the car."

"I'll go with you to get them!" Charlotte walked towards the cemetery gate, passing by him. Frederick grabbed her slender wrist, not wanting to let go.

"Charlotte, you promised not to give up on me! I need time!"

Charlotte blinked, lowered her eyes, and looked at the diamond ring.

"Frederick, was it that I didn't wait long enough? Or didn't give enough chances? I did promise! But I never expected Brenda to show up, or that she'd mean more to you than me. Then you got tangled up with that movie star! If you were him, you wouldn't have treated me like this!"

After saying this, Charlotte felt drained.

She brushed off his hand and walked towards the cemetery gate. The sunlight was blinding.

Frederick stood still.

He looked at the stone. [Frederick & Charlotte.]

Suddenly, he got it.

He hadn't even had the chance to love her yet, but Charlotte had already left her love here.

No matter how low-key the Hawkins family tried to be, news of their divorce still got out.

The one who spilled the beans was an outsider, the actress Melanie Sanders.

She had met Frederick's wife, or rather, his ex-wife, a very beautiful woman.

That day at the restaurant, Frederick ordered dessert for her right in front of his wife.

Later, she heard them talking about divorce.

She thought Frederick was doing it for her. After all, compared to a rich wife, she was way more charming, and the other woman had two kids, so her figure couldn't compare.

So, she posted on Facebook: [April is wonderful, Mr. Hawkins!]

The picture was of her and Frederick at a banquet.

Five minutes later, the actress deleted the Facebook post.

Whether the rumors about Frederick and Melanie were true or not was unknown.

But it was certain that Frederick and Charlotte were divorced!

For three whole days, their divorce was all over social media.

Divorce wasn't something to be ashamed of.

Charlotte kept working as usual, taking care of the two kids. Lola was well protected by her!

People noticed that Charlotte not only wasn't sad or down, but she also looked more radiant and full of life.

A banquet ended. The crystal lights in the hotel lobby were bright and dazzling.

Charlotte, wearing a custom-made dress, walked out side by side with Keith, talking business as they walked.

Keith, being a gentleman, draped a shawl over Charlotte's shoulders. "Ms. Russell, it's a bit chilly. You better put this on!"

Charlotte smiled lightly. "Alright! Where were we?"

Keith also smiled. "The development project!"

Charlotte lowered her eyes, thinking. "This is a key project for the company. Next month, you should come with me to check it out!"

Keith's heart skipped a beat.

He looked at Charlotte's calm and composed demeanor with some admiration.

She was amazing!

Charlotte was about to say something when someone got out of her car—it was Frederick.

Frederick had been sitting in the car for a long time.

As a man, he could clearly see the admiration in Keith's eyes.

Charlotte wasn't very surprised to see him.

She said goodbye to Keith and got into the car. Frederick followed her in.

He blurted out, "That's not true! I don't even like her!"

He never thought about marrying anyone else; he just wanted to mess with Charlotte.

Charlotte didn't care.

She rolled down the car window a bit and gave a faint smile. "Given where we stand now, it doesn't matter if it's true or not! Mr. Hawkins, if you remarry someday, I'll be happy for you!"

Frederick was fuming; she was so damn cool about it!

He snapped, "Are you planning to remarry?"

Charlotte thought for a moment. "Probably not. But who knows if I'll meet the right person."

Frederick thought of Keith.

They were really close just now.

At the next intersection, Charlotte asked him to get out of the car, but Frederick said he wanted to see the kids.

Charlotte was silent for a moment.

She whispered, "Frederick, I don't care if you're regretting or suddenly interested in me, but I want to tell you, you can see the kids, but don't harass me physically or verbally. Otherwise, we can't even be divorced parents! It's too late today; maybe next time!"

She shut him down.

In the end, Frederick got out of the car at the intersection.

Jared praised Charlotte for doing the right thing.

Charlotte felt drained.

The night grew deeper, and the fancy black car stopped in front of a standalone villa. As Charlotte got out, she tightened the shawl around her shoulders. The lights were dim, and she slowly went upstairs to check on her two kids.

She was super grateful to Patrick for letting her take Lola and Kingsley with her.

Kingsley was still young, eating and sleeping well, and the nanny took good care of him.

Charlotte went to Lola's room.

In the pink children's room, Lola was wearing a onesie, lying in bed.

Charlotte took off her high heels and went over to pat her little butt.

Lola turned over. Touching Charlotte's outfit, she said, "You look so pretty!"

Charlotte tucked her into the blanket and gently asked, "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

Lola leaned against her, whispering, "I miss Daddy!"

Charlotte felt a bit sad. She softly said, "Let's call Daddy."

Lola took out her pink phone and called Frederick, who answered quickly.

Charlotte didn't want to give him the wrong impression, so she left the children's room, letting Lola talk to him alone.

Lola liked Frederick. She started with, "I miss you!"

She wanted to sleep with Daddy, to put her feet on Daddy's tummy, which was so warm.

Frederick had just gotten home. He loosened his tie and said in a deep voice, "Where's Mommy?"

Lola, in a spoiled tone, said, "Mommy's back! Mommy smells nice! But I still miss you. I want you to read me a fairy tale."

Frederick's heart surged.

Listening to Lola's soft voice, he missed her terribly.

He wanted a family.

Frederick found a fairy tale book and read to Lola gently and patiently.

The night grew deeper.

Lola slowly fell asleep.

In the end, it was Charlotte who took the phone away, softly saying, "She's asleep!"

Frederick, hearing her gentle voice, felt a pang in his heart. He asked in a low voice the question he had been wanting to ask all night, "Charlotte, is there still a chance for us?"

Charlotte was stunned.

After a moment, she softly said, "No."

Then she hung up the phone.

She didn't cry because she had cried too many times for him. During those days when she seemed indifferent, she was actually tormented inside.

Frederick poured himself a glass of whiskey.

He replayed that video over and over, watching Charlotte fulfill all his desires.

They had loved each other deeply.

Now, it was hard for him to accept that one day Charlotte might love someone else and do those intimate things with another man!

There was a knock at the door.

Frederick turned off the video, his voice hoarse. "Come in!"

It was Chloe, bringing a meal. She softly said, "Frederick, you haven't been eating well these past few days."

Frederick smiled faintly, accepting her kindness.

Chloe sat down, nervously saying, "Frederick, many people are pursuing Charlotte now. Don't you feel a sense of crisis?"

Frederick lost his appetite. He wiped his lips and asked calmly, "How are they pursuing her?"

Chloe whispered, "By giving her things!"

"What does Charlotte like?"

Chloe thought carefully for a long time before tearfully saying, "What she likes most is Frederick."

Frederick was stunned.

He hadn't expected that answer.

He took out a cigarette, lit it, and smoked silently, mulling over Chloe's words. Finally, he smiled bitterly. "But she doesn't want me anymore!"

He wanted to reconcile with her.

But Charlotte wouldn't give him a chance.
