Chapter 634 Crazy Jealousy, I Really Want to Kill You!
Kingsley took a moment, glancing at Arabella next to him. If Rebecca hadn't mentioned her, he probably wouldn't even remember her name.
The group's VP had a thing for Arabella and pushed hard for her to be the spokesperson. So, here she was again today. Kingsley didn't want to make the VP look bad since he was a senior.
But Kingsley didn't expect Arabella to stick her nose into his family business.
He strolled over to the ball, swung his club, and nailed it right into the hole. Cheers erupted around him.
Holding the club, Kingsley casually said, "She's my son's mom. You planning to be a mom too? Got any questions for her?"
Arabella blushed; she could sense the irritation in Kingsley's voice. He was playing dumb but clearly trying to make her squirm. Arabella was used to being adored, with plenty of rich guys wanting to marry her, but none of them had Kingsley's clout!
Even though she was annoyed, she acted like she didn't get it and flirtatiously flipped her hair. "Mr. Hawkins, you're funny. I'm still single!"
Everyone could see Arabella was into him.
But Kingsley just shrugged it off and kept playing golf. No matter how hard Arabella tried, he wasn't interested.
After a few more tries, Arabella gave up.
Meanwhile, the coach was showing Amara the ropes on another part of the course.
Amara had never played before, so she was learning from scratch.
The coach was patient, standing behind her, loosely holding her hands through her gloves while explaining the techniques.
Amara was really focused on learning. But to others, their stance looked a bit too cozy. At least, it did to Kingsley.
He walked over with his club, standing right in front of them. His tall, commanding presence was hard to miss. The coach recognized him and immediately stopped to greet him.
Kingsley gave a faint smile. "Go ahead."
The coach was about to continue teaching.
Kingsley casually stroked his club and said to Amara, "My dad called, asking about Jesse's schooling. I told him Jesse knows fewer than 100 words now. He was pretty shocked and wants to teach him himself. He asked me to check with you."
The coach let go of her hands.
He looked at Kingsley in surprise, then at Amara. "Ms. Butler, you and Mr. Hawkins..."
Kingsley replied, "Yeah, we have a kid together."
Arabella, looking stunning in a black silk dress with a white blazer, walked over. She couldn't believe she was losing to Amara.
Amara was pretty, but in a different way from Arabella. She was about 5'3", wore minimal makeup, and had a slender figure.
But it was clear Kingsley was jealous.
Amara was speechless. She turned to the coach. "Let's keep going."
The coach hesitated, then smiled faintly. "Mr. Hawkins is great at golf. Maybe he should teach you?"
Amara didn't make it hard for him. She walked to the rest area and ordered a drink. Kingsley watched her from afar but didn't follow.
Instead, Arabella sat next to Amara. "Mind if I join you?"
Amara smiled faintly, not really interested in getting to know her. Arabella glanced at Kingsley and said, "A guy like Kingsley, any woman would want to marry him! How come you're not interested?"
Amara wasn't surprised by Arabella's comment.
Kingsley had that natural charm. He was the top exec of the biggest conglomerate in the country and good-looking. Even though he was usually arrogant and cold, women still flocked to him.
But Amara was used to seeing his private side and didn't care much.
She bit her straw and said casually, "He's single now."
Arabella was about to respond when a towel, smelling faintly of a man and post-workout sweat, was tossed over her head. She quickly took it off.
Kingsley sneered. "Since when did Ms. Butler become someone who gossips about others?"
Amara replied humbly, "Probably when I became your secretary but ended up serving you tea, cooking, and doing laundry every day."
Everyone around held their breath.
In the Syeattel business world, maybe only Amara dared to talk back to him like that.
Kingsley didn't make things hard for Amara. He turned to Arabella. "Mr. Hall said you're good at golf."
Arabella thought she had finally gained his favor. She took off her white jacket, ready to show off her skills, as Kingsley pointed at Amara. "You're responsible for teaching her! If you succeed, we'll sign the endorsement contract tomorrow. If not, there's no need to discuss it further."
Arabella was silent.
Amara was also stunned. When she came to her senses, she stood up. "Kingsley, what do you mean?"
Kingsley took the towel, wiped his neck, and glanced at her. "Still want to cling to someone while playing? You're not a kid anymore; time to grow up."
Amara, fuming, kicked him. Today's lesson was a total bust. She headed straight to the locker room to change and get out of there.
The private locker room door opened.
A tall figure walked in and closed the door behind him.
In the empty room, only his footsteps echoed.
Amara had just taken off her clothes, ready to shower, when she was pinned against the locker door. She coldly said, "I could accuse you of harassment."
Kingsley ignored her. He gently touched her face and whispered, "Don't let me see that again!"
"See what?" she asked, playing dumb.
Kingsley's gaze darkened.
He held her waist, pressing her against him so she could feel him, but his words were icy. "Don't you think that was too close? Have you forgotten you're Jesse's mom?"
The fabric of his clothes rubbed against her skin, and the posture was way too suggestive.
But Amara let out a bitter laugh. "We've already broken up. You can be close with anyone you want—it's none of my business. Similarly, you have no say in who I'm close to."
"Amara!" Kingsley forcefully pinned her against the locker door with a loud thud, causing pain in Amara's back. But even so, she didn't regret or fear.
Kingsley kissed her cheek, his voice light yet dangerous. "I really want to kill you right now!"
Amara let him kiss her.
Not only was she not angry, but she also laughed lightly. After the pain subsided, she leaned against the locker door and said, "Kingsley, ever since you took the Ascend Global Group project and left me no room to maneuver, didn't you foresee this day?"
She paused, her voice slightly hoarse. "You always do whatever you want without considering others' feelings! Even without me, plenty of women will chase you, and you can use them to spite me! But Kingsley, I don't love this way."
After speaking, Amara felt it was pointless.
She pushed against his shoulder lightly. "Let go!"
Kingsley released her but didn't leave. Instead, he sat on the long sofa and pulled out a cigarette to smoke.
Amara didn't feel like showering anymore. She opened the locker and put on her clothes.
As she was leaving, he said softly from behind, "You're right. You're free, and I shouldn't interfere too much. Sorry, I won't meddle in your private life anymore."
Amara paused but still opened the door and left.
Driving back, she rolled down the window, letting the wind cool her down a bit. This way, their mutual disappointment would ease a bit, making it less painful.
Amara returned home.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw a pair of men's shoes, clearly handmade.
She was stunned for a moment and then looked up to see Maurice.
Hailey was serving Maurice coffee. Seeing Amara return, she immediately said, "Mr. Hughes says he's an old friend of your mother's and came to see you and Jesse. He is so kind, bringing lots of gifts."
Hailey just thought Maurice was mature and charming.
Amara collected herself, took off her coat, and changed her shoes.
She didn't want Hailey to notice anything, so she stared at Maurice and said slowly, "Yes, he's my mother's friend."
At that moment, Maurice was holding Jesse, clearly fond of him.
The Hughes Family still didn't have a legitimate child.
After Sarah got married, she had two children, but due to genetic issues from the father's side, both children had some intellectual problems. So now, the Hughes Family had no one to inherit the family business.
Maurice was very fond of Jesse, who appeared gentle and kind but showed signs of intelligence. He admired Amara's courage, knowing her background and the difficulty of reaching her position; few girls dared to leave Kingsley.
He looked at Amara like an elder, speaking gently, "Is the company's situation troublesome? I heard there's a problem with financing. I know a few friends who might be good connections."
Amara didn't want to get involved with the Hughes Family.
She quietly set the table for Hailey and said, "I can handle it myself."
Hailey smiled and said, "Mr. Hughes is so kind! Amara is lucky to have such an elder. Mr. Hughes, please don't leave. I've prepared a meal for you; let's have dinner together."
She reached out to take Jesse for dinner, but Jesse clung to Maurice. "I want Grandpa Hughes to hold me."
Amara looked at Jesse. "Don't call people that."
Maurice smiled and said, "By seniority, that's what he should call me! Jesse is very affectionate and adorable. If..."
Amara interrupted him lightly, "Let's eat!"
Hailey, adjusting her scarf, was a bit puzzled. Maurice was so gentle and elegant, yet Amara seemed unhappy and eager to distance herself.
Did they have a grudge?
