Chapter 534 It Turns Out, Travis Also Likes Lola

Carlton was munching on some watermelon.

Once he finished, he felt a bit aroused again.

Thinking about Melissa lying in bed, Carlton wiped his mouth and headed back to the bedroom. But before he could do anything, the door was kicked open.

A police car took him away, and Melissa, wrapped in a blanket, was wheeled out, looking pale.

She was taken to the hospital for an exam and DNA samples were collected.

Carlton, still full of himself, demanded to see his lawyer.

He didn't even have a place to stay, let alone a lawyer. Finally, he rubbed his nose and said, "I'll call my son! He's a big shot; he can handle this quickly."

So, the police called Johnny.

Johnny, a name everyone knew!

When he showed up, he was all dressed up, clearly a high-society guy.

At 4 AM, Johnny was not in a good mood.

Partly because he got grumpy from getting up early, and partly because his dad had done something like this, even though he thought Melissa had kind of asked for it.

"Johnny, save me!" Carlton saw Johnny and felt a glimmer of hope.

He looked around and asked, "You didn't bring a lawyer? At least get me a legal team. Isn't that kid from the Hawkins Family pretty good? Let her handle my case!"

Johnny laughed angrily. "Why didn't Lola just run you over yesterday!"

Carlton felt a pang of guilt. After a moment, he stubbornly said, "She invited me to stay, and then dressed like that to seduce me! You can't blame me for this! Isn't it normal for two single people to have something happen?"

He paused. "Spend some money and get this resolved for me!"

Johnny didn't want to deal with this mess.

But these two people, one was his dad, and the other he had been involved with!

Travis was also his business partner.

Now his dad had violated Travis's ex-wife.

Just thinking about it made Johnny's head hurt.

He didn't agree; he hoped Carlton would stay in jail.

As Johnny was leaving, Carlton panicked. "Johnny, say something! What are you thinking? You wouldn't break ties with your father over a woman, would you?"

Johnny coldly said, "Prepare to go to jail!"

With that, he walked out.

As he stepped outside, the sky was still dark. He took a deep breath of the cold air, got into his car, and quietly smoked a cigarette before driving to the hospital.

Melissa had lacerations and was being treated in the hospital.

When she saw Johnny, she got agitated and threw a water cup at him. "What are you doing here?"

Johnny dodged it! He stood by the door, looking at Melissa's disheveled state. He had just heard from the nurse that Melissa was a virgin and had been raped by his father.

She had never been intimate with Travis.

Johnny felt very conflicted.

It was his dad who did this; he had to compensate Melissa financially, but he didn't really want to handle their lawsuit.

Melissa was still throwing things, extremely agitated.

Johnny waited for her to calm down, then pulled up a chair and sat across from her.

"Are you here to laugh at me?" Melissa sneered. "Johnny, are you happy now? And Lola, is she relieved that I can no longer cling to you?"

Johnny calmly said, "This has nothing to do with Lola."

Melissa tilted her head slightly, tears falling. "Why didn't he rape her?"

Johnny didn't respond. If it were Lola, she probably would have knocked Carlton out cold. She was too strong to be taken advantage of! Plus, Lola would never bring him home.

But he kept his mouth shut.

Melissa glared at him. "I'm going to request a public trial! Johnny, don't think you can just walk away from this. I want you to go down with me."

Johnny pulled out his checkbook from his pocket.

He wrote a check for $50 million and gently placed it on Melissa's bedside.

He softly said, "I know a woman's first time is very precious. I'm sorry this happened. I won't hire a lawyer for him; at most, he can apply for legal aid himself."

Melissa looked at the check. "Are you trying to buy me off? Johnny, is my first time worth this little to you?"

She tore the check into pieces.

Johnny quietly watched her, his eyes calm and emotionless.

After a moment, he decided to lay it all out, "Melissa, yes, we had a thing. When I first went to Kyro, I was a bit lost. I thought a girl with your personality would suit me, but when I realized I couldn't develop feelings for you, I chose to be honest with you. Later, when you married Travis, I thought our past relationship was insignificant. I still got along well with you and Travis. I believe I never had any ambiguity with you or did anything to betray Travis. On the contrary, when you found out I was with Lola, you deliberately came over to let Lola find out. You divorced Travis and wanted to pursue me; that was your own decision. I won't take responsibility for that."

Johnny spoke clearly, then looked at Melissa.

"Johnny, you bastard!" Melissa was furious and threw a pillow at him, which Johnny easily caught.

He gave her time to calm down.

What hurt Melissa the most was that Johnny was indifferent to her first time!

She panted, sneering. "Don't think you can clear your name! Even if I ruin myself, I'll drag you down with me. I want a public trial. Johnny, you'll be known as the son of a rapist! Think about it, Lola is a lawyer. If she marries you, her children will be the grandchildren of a rapist! Do you think she would want that?"

Johnny lost his patience. He stood up. "Do as you please!"

As he opened the door to leave, Melissa cried out, "Johnny, come back!"

She had done it all for him, and ended up like this!

At this moment, Melissa missed Travis terribly.

If it were Travis, he would never treat her like this!

Johnny left the hospital and drove straight to Lola's apartment to wait.

Lola came downstairs and saw him.

She paused but still opened the car door and got in.

Johnny knew she didn't have the habit of making breakfast for herself, so he handed her a bag of breakfast, her favorite sandwich and milk. Lola opened it and took a few sips. "Why are you here so early?"

Johnny turned his head to her.

Lola probably had to go to court today, dressed quite plainly: a white shirt, covered with a black trench coat, her long hair casually down.

He reached out and gently touched her high, delicate nose, his voice raspy. "Did you run into him yesterday?"

Lola thought for a moment and then realized who he was talking about.

She nodded.

After a moment, she looked up and asked, "Did he contact you?"

Johnny paused and, in a low voice, explained what had happened with Melissa.

Lola frowned. She knew exactly what Melissa was up to.

It was all about dragging Johnny's name through the mud.

With a dad like that, Johnny's future in the business world would be a nightmare.

She didn't say much.

She wouldn't feel sorry for Melissa, but she wouldn't kick her while she was down either. She was a woman too.

Johnny said softly, "I have a lot of ways to make Melissa back down, but Lola, I don't want to do that! It would be too despicable."

Lola got it.

She smiled faintly. "It's up to you."

Johnny gently held her hand. "Will you mind?"

Even though he had cut ties long ago, he was still that man's son, and his reputation would take a hit.

Would she still want to be with him?

Lola thought for a moment and then replied, "Actually, this doesn't affect our relationship! Johnny, strictly speaking, we are not married! How you handle Melissa has little to do with me."

Johnny's face turned a bit pale.

Lola simply got out of the car. "Thanks for the breakfast!"

She swiftly got into her own car and drove away. From the rearview mirror, she could see Johnny's face, somewhat disappointed.

Lola knew Carlton could affect Johnny.

Childhood shadows, the feeling of being betrayed, but she had experienced that feeling too.

She had been more than tolerant of Johnny.

After her morning court session, Lola unexpectedly ran into Travis.

He was leaning against her car, smoking.

There were already four or five cigarette butts at his feet, clearly waiting for her.

Lola walked over, opened the car door, and tossed her briefcase inside, asking indifferently, "Looking for me?"

Travis's gaze was deep.

He wasn't very familiar with Lola, but their fathers had some connections.

He nodded. "Yeah, I need to talk to you about something. Let's talk inside."

Lola pointed to the café across the street.

A few minutes later, she was stirring her coffee, waiting for Travis to speak.

Travis said softly, "How much do you know about Melissa's situation?"

Lola looked at him.

Travis smiled. "Even though I was married to her for a few years, she always had Johnny in her heart! Lola, you have everything. I think you can find any great guy you want, so why not..."

"Why not give Johnny to her?" Lola asked.

Travis took a sip of coffee, feeling a bit bitter.

Lola smiled. "Travis, you are really generous! Melissa is your ex-wife, and you're finding her a husband? But you might be mistaken; Johnny is not my possession, and I can't make decisions for him."

Travis was about to speak, but Lola interrupted him, "Once, when I was very young, I also thought Johnny was mine. But that was clearly wrong. He left, and when he came back years later, it wasn't because he was mine, but because he wanted this relationship!"

Travis was slightly stunned and couldn't help but ask, "What happened between you and him?"

Lola smiled. "No comment."

She hadn't finished her coffee but stood up to leave. As she left, she said, "Travis, if you take on too much, you'll end up hurting both that person and yourself. Your sacrifice is actually worthless in the eyes of others."

Travis sat there, slowly finishing his cup of coffee.

She could see that Travis liked her, but to her, it was worthless.

When Lola walked out, she ran into Johnny.

Sitting in the car, Lola was silent for a while before asking him, "Did you have someone follow me?"

Johnny didn't deny it. He turned to her. "I was worried."

Lola's fingers curled slightly. She looked at him. "You must know what Travis said to me."

Johnny did know.

But in the past, he never knew that Travis actually liked Lola.

Why did Travis marry Melissa back then?

Just thinking about it made Johnny break out in a cold sweat, but he didn't ask too much.

He drove straight back to his apartment.

Lola reminded him, "Today is not the weekend."

"Just because it's not the weekend, I can't sleep with you?" Johnny's voice was eerily calm.

Lola glanced at him.

Since they got back together, they hadn't talked much. There was always something between them.

Johnny's feelings made Lola feel overwhelmed.

She wondered if he had felt the same way back then, which made him want to escape.

When they got to his apartment, he carried Lola to the bedroom.

It wasn't dark yet, and the bedroom was bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, bright and warm.

Lola wasn't really in the mood for intimacy.

She kicked him. "The curtains!"

Johnny reached out and pressed a button, darkening the room. His breathing became seductive, and Lola buried her head in the pillow, asking him to use a condom.

Johnny kissed her lips and murmured against her, "Lola, let's have a baby."

"In your dreams! I'm an unmarried woman; why should I have your baby?"

Johnny held her waist and kissed her passionately. After a while, his lips moved to her ear. "Then why are you sleeping with me?"

Lola kicked him. "Isn't it because you have a strong sexual desire??"

Johnny looked at her deeply.

After a while, he opened the drawer and did as she asked, taking precautions.

He was clearly distracted, and after two rounds, he became less enthusiastic but still wouldn't let go of her. Lola simply buried her head in the pillow and fell asleep.

When Johnny noticed, he kissed her damp hair.

By then, night had fallen.

He checked the time and realized it was already 8 p.m. Lola had fallen asleep under him.

Johnny's Adam's apple bobbed.

She probably thought being with him was meaningless!

He got up, took a shower, and started making dinner for her. When it was ready, he went to the bedroom to wake her up.

Lola was already awake.

She sat at the head of the bed, quietly lost in thought.

Johnny walked to the bedside and gently brushed her hair aside. "You fell asleep just now."

Lola smiled faintly. "There's no passion in doing this anymore! Johnny, maybe we should let each other go sooner."

He looked at her but didn't answer.

Lola didn't say much more either. She got up to eat. She didn't ask him how he handled the situation with Melissa; that was Johnny's business.

But even if she didn't ask, Johnny would still tell her.

They got along very calmly, eating together, sleeping together, and making love, but it was nothing like before. Johnny often wondered, where did the old Lola go?

She used to desire him with all her being, but not anymore.

He felt he was sick, and this sickness was probably called "unrequited longing."

The more he couldn't have her, the more he wanted to control her. He knew Lola resented it, but he couldn't help himself.
