Chapter 211 Charlotte, I'm your uncle
Frederick sat across from Andrew.
Talking to someone like Andrew required caution, but Frederick went straight to the point, "I want to marry Charlotte!"
Andrew smiled, took out a cigarette, and played with it. After a bit, he said, "We know your situation. The first to disagree is Adeline, my mother. My sister Victoria chose poorly and suffered, so we take Charlotte's marriage seriously."
Patrick looked at his son. Frederick's expression changed.
Andrew kept smiling. "You get what I'm saying. Charlotte is the only girl in this Devereux generation, and she's precious. We won't let her suffer."
Patrick understood. Andrew had done his homework and was making things tough. His words left no room for argument.
Patrick was furious!
Most would feel uncomfortable and lose their cool if ridiculed by Andrew. But Frederick stayed calm and poured water for Andrew. "I understand. I'll treat Charlotte well and not let her suffer."
Andrew was a bit surprised. He'd heard Frederick was good in court but didn't expect him to be so thick-skinned. He looked at him for a moment, then stood up. "I've taken enough of your time. I'll be going now."
Patrick and Frederick saw him off. Several bodyguards surrounded Andrew as he got into the car.
Frederick opened the car door for Andrew. "Take care, Mr. Devereux. I'll visit Copenhegan soon."
Andrew looked at him for a moment, smiled, and got into the car. The convoy of four Audi A8s drove away.
Patrick looked at Frederick and sneered, "No need to discuss if I agree. Did you see that? Charlotte's family doesn't agree! The Devereux family is powerful. You and Charlotte can't force this! Andrew is ruthless; he can do anything!"
Frederick, hands in his pockets, looked into the distance and smiled. "Dad, don't you think Charlotte looks a lot like Andrew?"
Patrick was furious! Frederick's focus was on that!
Back in the hall, Chloe came downstairs and peeked outside. "Charlotte's uncle is really good-looking!"
Andrew left Hawkins Mansion and went to Maria's place.
Maria's neighborhood was livelier than before. The arrival of four black cars and many bodyguards shocked Maria.
Andrew spoke elegantly to her.
Maria wasn't inexperienced, but she was still intimidated by such a man. Even the little white dog barked twice.
Andrew smiled. "You must be Maria! I'm Victoria's twin brother, Andrew."
Maria was stunned. She shook her head to make sure she wasn't dreaming!
She didn't know Andrew, but he knew a lot about her and was very gentle. "Though Victoria and William have passed, I know you've been taking care of Charlotte. I came to pay my respects and take you to Copenhegan to meet Adeline, my mother."
Maria was moved. She had no connection with Victoria, but Andrew was Charlotte's uncle and very dignified. She was happy for Charlotte.
Maria poured water for Andrew and smiled. "Mr. Devereux, Charlotte is on a business trip in Bostan. When she returns, I'll ask her to go to Copenhegan. As for me, I won't go and cause trouble!"
Andrew insisted. He gently held Maria's hand, his voice even more gentle. "Maria, don't be so formal. Adeline specifically asked for you to come and stay for a few days!"
Maria blushed. Being looked at and held by such a handsome man, even at her age, she couldn't handle it. She stammered, "I need to discuss it with Charlotte!"
Andrew let go of her and smiled as he drank his water.
After a while, he said with a smile, "I didn't expect that child to be so assertive. Maria, you seem like a junior, reporting everything to her!"
Maria was shy but couldn't make the decision. She called Charlotte and explained the situation.
There was a long silence on the other end before a soft voice asked, "Is he with you?"
Maria sighed. "I'll let him talk to you."
Maria handed the phone to Andrew.
Even Andrew, usually composed, had a slight tremor in his voice when he spoke to his niece. "Charlotte, this is your uncle."
He gently recounted past events, trying to ease any unease she might feel.
Charlotte's throat felt dry. She had never met anyone from her mother's side and knew it would be awkward. But knowing the Devereux family had never given up on her mother made her feel better.
Andrew softly said, "I'll visit your mother soon. Once you're done with work, I'll send a private jet to bring you to Copenhegan."
Charlotte agreed and asked, "Please take good care of my mom."
Andrew knew she meant Maria and smiled, agreeing.
After hanging up, Andrew smiled. "Maria, please lead the way. I want to visit Victoria."
Maria's eyes reddened. She quickly bought a bouquet of lilies.
Andrew bought pink roses. To him, Victoria would always be 18, and pink was just right.
A light rain was falling.
The gentle and elegant man stood in front of the tombstone for a long time, with Maria by his side. Even though he said nothing, Maria could feel his sorrow.
"Victoria and I were twins. We were closer than any other siblings. She dropped out of school in Novaria, got pregnant, and refused to reveal the father's identity. She left home in anger after being scolded by our mother. The Devereux family searched for her for years, only to find her again after she already passed away."
Andrew placed the roses down, his voice trembling slightly. "Victoria, I'm here."
Maria was sobbing uncontrollably. She had deeply loved William and had once been jealous of Victoria, but she was ultimately kind-hearted. She couldn't bear to see suffering.
Victoria, from such a good family, had such a tragic end.
Maria softly asked, "Mr. Devereux, Charlotte's biological father..."
Andrew's voice turned cold. "Elijah? He's not worthy. Charlotte is Victoria and William's child, and also your child, and even more so, a child of the Devereux family."
After talking to Andrew, Charlotte was in a daze for a long time.
She knew Andrew; he was a famous, powerful man. And he was her uncle!
Charlotte took half a day to process everything. During this time, Frederick called and messaged her. She reassured him she was fine.
After going through so much, Charlotte gradually calmed down. She threw herself into work, and ten days later, the Bostan project wrapped up smoothly.
On the day it ended, she called Andrew.
She politely declined the private jet, finding it too conspicuous, and took a flight to Copenhegan herself.
Andrew personally went to the airport to pick her up. Due to his status, he waited in the car while bodyguards escorted Charlotte to the vehicle. "Charlotte, Mr. Devereux is in the car."
Charlotte nodded and got in.
In the back seat sat a refined, dignified, and handsome man who made a good impression at first sight. He looked a lot like her mother.
Charlotte didn't speak, her lips trembling slightly.
Andrew gently hugged her head, saying nothing, just savoring the moment.
Twenty-five years. Victoria had been gone for 25 years, and now, only this child was left.
Andrew felt deep sorrow for her.
After a while, he calmed down, instructed the driver to start the car, and began introducing the family to Charlotte. "Adeline only had me and your mother, but there are many cousins. You're the only girl in this generation, so everyone will be happy to see you!"
Charlotte listened quietly.
Later, Andrew held her hand and softly said, "Adeline has missed your mother so much over the years that she cried her eyes out! She wants to keep you in Copenhegan so she can take care of you."
Charlotte hesitated.
Andrew smiled. "I've thought about it. We'll also bring Maria to Copenhegan for her retirement, along with that little white dog."
Charlotte looked at his profile. He was very handsome and looked like her mother.
She liked looking at him this way. She liked Andrew.
She thought for a moment and said, "My career in Syeatte has just started. I can't just abandon it. I want to wait a couple of years until everything is stable and then travel back and forth."
Andrew agreed. It was good for a girl to have career ambitions. In this regard, William and Maria hadn't taught the child wrong!
Andrew smiled slightly, patting her head. Charlotte felt like he was looking at her as if she were Victoria.
