Chapter 320 You Were Way Out of My League (Part 2)
The vibe in the private room was kinda tense.
Andrew's face was all serious, and no one had a clue what was going on in his head.
Chloe, though, was standing by the door, looking all stubborn with tears in her eyes.
She looked like a sad little puppy.
Andrew got up slowly and headed for the door. Grace noticed and called out, "Andrew!"
But Andrew acted like he didn't hear her and kept walking, talking to Chloe in a soft, loving voice, "Why'd you follow me here?"
Chloe glanced at him, then at everyone in the room, and finally at Grace.
After what felt like forever, she mumbled, "I forgot to get an autograph!"
Total lie.
Everyone could see it, but no one dared to call her out.
'Cause Andrew treated Chloe differently.
Andrew smiled slowly, then turned to Grace and said, "Grace, this is on you! Sign an autograph for her so she can go home and chill."
Grace, being the smooth operator she was, quickly pulled out a photo from her handbag, signed it, and handed it to Chloe with a teasing smile. "Andrew's right; my bad!"
Chloe thanked her softly, avoiding Andrew's gaze, but he kept staring at her.
When she said goodbye, Andrew offered to have someone see her off.
"No need!" she shook her head. "I drove here."
Andrew didn't push it. He reached out like he wanted to touch her hair but then dropped his hand and smiled faintly. "Drive safe."
She nodded and left.
No drama, no accusations. 'Cause that stuff's for lovers, and she and Andrew were nothing.
Even her feelings weren't allowed by him!
The fancy door closed slowly.
Inside, he was surrounded by luxury and beautiful women.
While she was alone, her shadow stretching long under the crystal lights in the hallway.
The private room got lively again.
Grace was still snuggled up to Andrew, being all sweet and affectionate. Gregory and the others were still joking, "You should've kept the girl here, Andrew. That's your shadow; can you really let her go?"
Andrew joked back a bit but felt this weird irritation.
He was single, having a bit of fun was no big deal. She wasn't anyone to him and couldn't control him, but being seen by her still made him feel all kinds of uncomfortable.
"I'm outta here!" He pushed the cards away, ending the socializing.
The room went quiet.
After a bit, Grace forced a smile and said softly, "Feeling off? Come to my place, I'll give you a massage. You worry too much."
Gregory quickly chimed in, "Yeah, let Grace take care of you."
Andrew didn't want to make a scene.
Grace's place was super fancy, and the servants had even lit a special lamp in the bedroom for Andrew.
He used to love this. He leaned back on the sofa, closing his eyes to enjoy Grace's attention.
Grace, lying at his feet, softly pleaded, "Stay tonight, okay?"
No guy could resist a beauty in his arms.
But Andrew's mind was full of Chloe, pretending not to care even though she was about to cry.
He gently pushed Grace away and started putting on his shoes, saying, "Got a lot to do in the morning! I'm beat!"
Grace was not happy.
He was clearly making excuses.
Andrew pinched her cheek and coaxed softly, "I'm really busy!"
Grace stomped her foot in frustration but didn't dare to push it.
Andrew walked out, and Nathan was already waiting by the car. Seeing him come out, Nathan was surprised and asked, "Not staying with Grace?"
Andrew got in the car without answering.
After a bit, he suddenly asked, "Think Chloe's mad at me?"
Nathan was taken aback. Then he got it and smiled. "Girls forget stuff in a few days."
Andrew smiled faintly. 'Yeah, how long could the crush of a girl who still carried a baby bottle in her bag last?'
He closed his eyes and softly said, "Take me to Hawkins Mansion."
Late at night, Patrick had just laid down when a servant came upstairs to knock on the door, saying Andrew's car was outside.
After being told twice, Patrick sat up.
Laura also put on a robe, but Patrick stopped her, gritting his teeth. "Andrew must be having a rough time; that's why he's here in the middle of the night!"
But he still had to deal with it.
Frederick and Charlotte's marriage wasn't locked down yet, so he had to keep Andrew happy.
Patrick threw on some clothes, and by the time he got downstairs, he was all smiles, saying, "Andrew! You should've given me a heads-up you were coming to Syeattel; I would've thrown a proper feast."
Andrew stood there, looking all charming. He smiled slightly. "It's not too late now!"
Patrick froze. 'Now? Seriously? It's almost ten o'clock!'
As they chatted, someone slowly walked down the stairs in a pure white lace dress, eyes all red.
It was Chloe.
She came down 'cause of the noise and saw Andrew.
What was he doing here?
Andrew, with his usual smoothness, smiled at her like she was just some kid.
Under the light, her face went pale.
Patrick didn't seem to notice. He told Felix to whip up some dishes and said to Chloe, "Why not say hi to Andrew?"
Her lips moved, but she couldn't say anything. She turned and bolted back upstairs.
Patrick shook his head and said to Andrew, "We've spoiled her! Don't mind it."
Andrew looked upstairs, smiling. "No biggie."
Felix brought over some food and wine, and Patrick sat with Andrew, still clueless about why he was there.
Early morning, Nathan helped Andrew into the car.
Andrew had drunk a lot. Leaning back in the rear seat, he was deep in thought. He'd be heading back to Copenhegan in the morning, but Chloe was still clearly upset with him.
He thought he should make her happy somehow.
He dialed Chloe's number, but she didn't pick up.
He felt this weird sadness.
Someone like him shouldn't be caught up in emotions and love, especially not with a girl. Even if he denied it and told everyone she was just a junior, he couldn't deny he treated her differently.
He couldn't give her love, but he still thought about her.
Andrew opened the car window to let the wind clear his head. After a while, he tried to play it cool and joked with Nathan, "You must think I'm a joke!"
Lots of people liked Andrew.
Maybe they loved his family background or his looks; some he couldn't even remember their names.
But he only kept Chloe in his heart.
They never had a real relationship. They just had a meal together, she napped in his bedroom once, and they kissed once.
For a long time, he had no news of her.
After Charlotte got pregnant, the Hawkins family came to propose. He thought Chloe would come along. She liked lively events, after all.
But she didn't show.
He was a bit bummed, and amidst the lively atmosphere, he spent a long time alone, smoking half a pack of cigarettes.
When Charlotte got married, he finally saw Chloe. She was wearing a beautiful blue dress, the purest blue he had ever seen. She was with a group of girls, treating him distantly, and he could only watch her from afar.
Andrew thought maybe this was for the best.
What could he say even if they met? He couldn't give her anything.
Too many things stood between them, like identities and ages.
He didn't dare to think if Chloe's feelings for him could withstand those tests. The feelings he had deep inside had to be abandoned before they could even be confessed.
Still, he thought of her.
Gregory didn't get it, saying Andrew had become more self-disciplined, but only Andrew knew he had just accidentally fallen for Chole!
When he went on a business trip to Bostan, he cleared his schedule and personally queued up to buy two toy rabbits.
He heard girls liked them.
When he brought them back to the office, Nathan couldn't help but laugh. "These are so cute! You're going to Syeattel next week; if you give them to Chloe, she'll definitely like them."
Andrew lit a cigarette, glancing at Nathan. "Who said they're for her! Even if they are, one is for Charlotte. I'm not buying them specifically for her!"
Nathan quickly agreed, "Yeah, yeah. It's mainly for Charlotte."
Only then did Andrew let him off.
When he was alone, he couldn't help but think, she should be happy when she gets them, right?
Chloe should be happy.
