Chapter 833 Rushing to the Hospital, Can Their Child Still Be Saved?

Natalie turned to leave.

Suddenly, Clayton grabbed her slender wrist, his voice low and pleading, "Natalie, please, just give me a chance to make things right! Can we try again, maybe..."

"No way!"

Natalie's tone was icy. "Clayton, we've tried before! More than once!"

Each time, it ended in either heartbreak or disappointment.

If she had to choose, she'd rather be disappointed.

She still wanted him to live well because disappointment could be let go, but heartbreak might last a lifetime.

She walked away resolutely.

Clayton couldn't hold her back.

In the hallway, Gavin watched Natalie leave, then leaned against the wall, relaxing slightly.

He wrapped an arm around Molly, holding her silently.

After a while, Molly whispered, "You didn't want them together, why didn't you stop them?"

The crystal chandelier sparkled, making Gavin's handsome face even more striking. Molly could hardly look at him, even after years of marriage, she still felt shy.

Gavin glanced down at her, softly asking, "Did Natalie care about him?"

Molly shook her head.

Gavin chuckled, "I told you, you can't stop someone with two legs! Besides, he followed her all the way to Copenhegan. Should I move the company there and take the kids just to keep an eye on him?"

Molly stared at him.

Gavin gently touched her face, saying tenderly, "Silly."

Because of Clayton, Natalie left early.

Manuel was waiting downstairs. Seeing her come down, he quickly went to support her, muttering, "Ms. Devereux, why are you leaving early?"

Natalie smiled faintly, "My mom ran into someone, she can't leave."

She gently touched her belly, "It's fine! The baby is behaving well!"

Despite her words, Manuel carefully helped her into the car, closing the door thoughtfully.

As he straightened up, he saw Clayton approaching.

Manuel forced a smile, "Mr. Percy!"

Clayton said softly, "I need to talk to Natalie."

Manuel hesitated, then knocked on the car window, "Ms. Devereux, Mr. Percy wants to speak with you."

Natalie rolled down the window.

Clayton handed her the jewelry he had bought at the charity gala. "These were bought for you."

Natalie stared silently.

After a moment, she said softly, "Clayton, you bought me a lot of jewelry when we were together. I didn't take any of it when I left. I didn't want it then, and I don't want it now. Keep it, you might need it someday."

Clayton's gaze was deep.

But Natalie didn't waver. The window slowly rolled up in front of him.

It was hard for both of them. Natalie hoped he wouldn't try to win her back, it would make her feel better. Clayton's presence always felt like reopening old wounds.

Manuel got in the car, and they drove off slowly.

She couldn't help but tear up, her nose stinging. She still couldn't be indifferent to him.

Rain started to fall again, soaking the expensive car and Clayton's suit, but he didn't care.

After standing for about two minutes, he found his car and followed Natalie.

He habitually followed her, only leaving when she reached the Devereux Mansion's private road.

The weather was terrible tonight.

The Syeattel weather bureau issued a severe weather warning, upgrading from a regular storm to a category 12 storm.

By 9:30 PM, everyone in the city had received the alert.

Natalie sat quietly in the back seat.

Manuel's phone rang. He glanced at it and said, "Ms. Devereux, we need to hurry home. The typhoon changed course and is heading our way. It didn't look like bad weather when we left!"

Natalie looked outside.

They were out of the city center, about ten minutes from home.

Manuel reassured her, saying the car was very sturdy.

"Mr. Devereux bought this car. It's much stronger than a regular RV, with a one-piece forged design that's both luxurious and durable. It's the most crash-resistant!"

"Only someone like Mr. Devereux could get this one-of-a-kind car, just for you, Ms. Devereux, because you're carrying a precious baby!"

Manuel talked a lot but drove carefully.

He drove steadily, turning onto the private road. The sky was dark and ominous.

The typhoon roared, bending the small trees by the roadside.

Manuel said softly, "Once we get through this road, we'll be home. Mr. and Mrs. Devereux must be stuck at the hotel."

Just as he finished speaking, there was a loud crash on the car roof.

Something heavy had hit it. The car swerved but was blocked by a tree, causing it to flip over.

Fortunately, Manuel's skills were good. He stabilized the car quickly, but he was trapped between the steering wheel and the airbag, his thigh in excruciating pain. It was probably broken.

Worried about Natalie, he asked urgently, "Ms. Devereux, are you okay? I think my thigh bone is shattered, I can't move at all."

Natalie felt dizzy.

She could feel something wet between her legs, something slowly trickling down.

But she saw Manuel's leg covered in blood, clearly more injured than she was.

Natalie said softly that she was fine.

But her heart was trembling.

She reached for her phone to call for help, but there was no signal.

The phone wouldn't connect.

The car was filled with the smell of blood, a sense of despair.

Liquid kept flowing from her body. She looked down, seeing blood on her embroidered dress. She felt the baby might not survive, but she had to save Manuel.

Manuel couldn't get out, so she had to open the door and go home for help.

Natalie braced herself, unbuckling her seatbelt.

Manuel, in immense pain, heard her and knew what she was trying to do.

He desperately tried to stop her, "Ms. Devereux, stay in the car! It's too dangerous out there."

Tears streamed down his face, partly from pain and partly from realizing the baby might be in danger.

Otherwise, Natalie wouldn't make such a decision.

The Devereux family knew how to weigh their options. It wasn't a bad thing.

It seemed to be their talent.

Natalie endured the pain, saying softly, "If we wait any longer, there's no hope! With the wind like this, no one from home can come out. If we delay, Manuel, you might bleed out..."

Manuel's eyes were full of tears. He angrily hit his leg.

By then, Natalie had opened the car door.

The strong wind and rain poured in. It was undoubtedly a risky move.

Natalie had no choice but to gamble, almost betting her life to save Manuel's.

The world was chaotic, nothing was clear.

Not even the direction.

Natalie's dress was soaked, the rainwater dripping from her hem was a pale pink.

But she had no time to worry about the baby. She had to survive, and she had to save Manuel.

Just then, two bright headlights shone straight at her.

The car stopped across from them.

A tall figure jumped out, running straight towards her.

Natalie couldn't see clearly, her face and eyes blurred by rain, but she knew who it was.

It was Clayton.

Natalie trembled all over, her lips parted, wanting to call out to him but finding she couldn't speak.

She could only point to the driver's seat, silently begging him to save Manuel.

Usually, Clayton would leave after dropping her off at the private road, but tonight's storm was too fierce.

He was worried.

He followed, seeing the accident happen. He watched as the car was hit by a tree and flipped over several times before stopping.

He thought Natalie was dead. But before he could grieve, the car door opened, and Natalie emerged, drenched and bloody.

She was still alive. Clayton rushed to her, holding her tightly. He said nothing, not even comforting her or worrying about their baby.

He immediately carried her to his car, then went back to drag Manuel out, placing him in his car too.

The whole process took about five minutes.

Besides him, the other two were in bad shape.

The car was cold.

Clayton threw a coat into the back seat, stepped on the gas, and drove off. Neither Manuel nor Natalie could afford to wait.

As he drove, his vision blurred.

He was risking his life.

Not for forgiveness, but to keep Natalie alive, to give their baby a chance.

But he knew, when Natalie got out of the car, she had already made her decision.

Tears welled in Clayton's eyes.

He thought, 'Will we make it to the hospital in time to save our baby?'
