Chapter 861 The Letter Natalie Wrote to Grant

Grant led Haven back to the hospital room.

Nancy was feeding Lance when she saw Haven and was surprised. "How did you two bump into each other?"

Haven was also surprised, watching Lance eat.

Luckily, Haven was just a little girl, otherwise, Nancy would have felt really awkward. She adjusted herself slightly and then turned her attention to Grant. "Did you run into Natalie?"

Grant nodded and sat Haven down by the bed to watch Lance.

Nancy, already shy, gave Grant a slightly reproachful look.

Grant chuckled. "She's still young, she doesn't understand much!"

As soon as he said that, Haven pouted and said, "I used to eat like that when I was little!"

The atmosphere became a bit awkward.

Nancy softly scolded Grant, "Kids these days understand things early!"

Grant gently patted Haven's head and said tenderly, "Auntie is just a bit shy. Let's not talk about it in front of her, okay?"

Haven nodded obediently.

She then eagerly watched Lance, saying he was as cute as Chance. She remembered Chance being just like this when he was born.

As she spoke, Grant listened quietly, and so did Nancy.

Occasionally, Nancy would glance at Grant, knowing deep down that out of all three children, including Benjamin, Grant favored Haven the most.

Maybe it was because she was the only girl, or maybe because she was born to the person he loved the most.

Either way, he treated Haven differently.

But Nancy didn't mind.

It wasn't that she didn't care about Grant, but after everything they'd been through, she had learned to see things clearly.

Even Natalie had let go completely, so what was there for her to be unhappy about?

Now, she was the one by Grant's side, and he treated all of them well. That was enough.

If life were perfect, how would we know the taste of sweet and sour?

Her gaze softened, and Haven sweetly called her "Auntie" and even gave her a kiss on the cheek, asking if it still hurt to have a baby.

Haven gently said, "Grandma says giving birth is like going through the Gate of Hell. Auntie, what does the Gate of Hell mean?"

Nancy thought she was so sweet.

Soft and tender, with a cute little face, very endearing.

She couldn't help but look at Grant. Haven really resembled him, but probably because she was a girl, she looked more like Natalie now.

Nancy could almost imagine how adorable Natalie must have been when she was young. No wonder he could never forget her.

She gently touched Haven's face and said, "The Gate of Hell is like running away from home."

Haven thought for a long time before squeezing out a sentence, "So, did you come back?"

Nancy said, "Yes."

Haven seemed to understand.

She then remembered the time she accidentally killed Andrew's pet bird and thought about running away from home.

So, running away would be like going through the Gate of Hell! She decided not to run away, just in case she couldn't come back!

They chatted for a long time!

After Lance finished eating, he burped, and Haven whispered, "Is he going to sleep now?"

Grant gently picked up Lance and said softly, "Yes, babies sleep all the time."

Haven nodded. "I used to do that too."

She watched as Grant walked towards the crib, thought for a moment, and jumped off the bed.

But before leaving, she thoughtfully tucked Nancy in with the blanket.

Nancy was momentarily stunned, then smiled warmly.

Over there, Haven followed Grant closely. When Grant held Lance, she clung to his leg, very dependent.

Nancy had said, "Why don't you take her and Benjamin out for lunch? I don't have much to do here and could use a nap."

Grant was concerned. "What if this little guy wets his diaper?"

Nancy laughed. "There are nurses for that!"

Grant agreed. After Lance fell asleep, he helped Nancy with some water and then called Benjamin to go out for lunch.

Although they said they were going out to eat, it was just at the hospital cafeteria, where both the quantity and quality of the food were limited.

But for Benjamin, this was already a great improvement. He had been eating in the hospital room every day and was tired of it.

Haven's presence was like an angel, saving him.

Haven, being quite particular, wasn't very interested in the cafeteria food and ate very little.

Grant pinched her little nose, urging her to eat more, calling her a spoiled little rascal.

Haven ate quite a bit, filling her little tummy.

She eagerly asked Grant, "Can I take Lance home to play with and take care of for a few days?"

Grant laughed. "Lance is still too young! You wouldn't know how to take care of him."

Haven looked hopeful. "I know how to make formula! I watched Mommy take care of Chance, and I learned."

Grant pinched her nose again. "You want to practice with Lance?"

Haven blushed.

She had seen others raising pets from a young age and wanted to do the same.

She wasn't interested in cats or dogs anymore; she wanted something bigger, and Lance was her choice.

Even if she wanted the moon, Grant would try to get it for her.

Lance, however, was off-limits.

Grant seriously told her, "If you want to take Lance home, you'll have to ask Nancy. Lance is her responsibility."

Haven decided not to ask.

She looked at Grant with a complicated expression. After a while, she said, "So, Dad, you're not the boss at home?"

Grant said, "That's right, I have to listen to Nancy."

Haven nodded vigorously. "Dad Clayton listens to Mommy too. He's most afraid of her! He does whatever she says, but Mommy still doesn't pay much attention to him."

Grant had heard about Clayton and Natalie's situation.

He didn't want to get involved.

He hugged Haven and asked, "Do you like Dad Clayton?"

Haven honestly said, "Yes! But I also like you, Daddy!"

To show she meant it, she kissed Grant on the chin. Grant's heart softened.

As she grew up to look more like Natalie, he wondered how he could ever let her go.

His eyes grew moist.

Haven suddenly pulled out a small candy box and handed it to Grant. "Mommy said to give this to you, just for you."

Grant was taken aback.

It was a pink candy tin with seven or eight candies inside, along with a check and a letter.

The check was for $5 million.

Opening the letter, it was a short, calm note from Natalie.

[This $5 million is from selling the bracelet. It originally belonged to you and Haven. I thought Haven would need it for her future wedding, but you need the money more now. The bracelet can be bought again later.]

A simple note, without any emotion.

But Grant understood.

Natalie had made a special trip to Copenhegan because she heard about his situation from her parents. In her mind, he wasn't doing well.

He was indeed struggling, even accepting Andrew's help.

But Natalie knew his pride.

If she gave him money outright, he wouldn't accept it. So, she used the bracelet meant for Haven's future wedding gift. She said it belonged to him and Haven.

In Natalie's mind, she had carved out a place for their past, no matter how painful or unworthy. Those unforgettable memories were irreplaceable.

Grant's eyes grew moist.

Haven wiped his eyes. "Uncle Gavin says boys who cry are jerks."

Grant hugged her tightly.

He kissed Haven and accepted Natalie's kindness.

He thought that when Haven got married, he would give her an even better gift.
