Chapter 391 This Was Happiness

A family of three feeling this kind of warmth? Yeah, that was rare.

Chloe's eyes started to sting.

She'd loved Andrew like crazy once and hated him just as much.

But she couldn't lie to herself. All these years, she'd been waiting for him to give her a real home.

Chloe was an open book; happy, sad, you could always tell.

Gavin walked up, grabbed her hand, and asked, "Mom, why are you crying?"

Chloe felt a bit awkward.

With a sniffle, she said, "I'm not crying!"

Gavin was about to say more, but Andrew swooped in, picked him up, and kissed him. "I'll take you to preschool!"

Gavin's cheeks went a bit red.

Andrew then turned to Chloe and said, "Your eyes are red! Go wash your face and fix your makeup. You gotta look good when you go out."

Patrick rolled his eyes. 'Andrew, you shameless dude! Chloe's already in her thirties.'

But Laura was touched, quietly wiping away tears.

Even though she liked it when Chole and Gavin were around, , she wanted their happiness more than anything. Now that Andrew was finally stepping up, how could she not be happy?

Laura smiled and said, "Come back for dinner after the school visit. I'll cook."

Andrew naturally replied, "Thanks, Mom."

Patrick and Laura were pleased.

Chloe felt a bit shy, her eyes reddening as she glanced at him and softly said, "Aren't you too old to be shy?"

Andrew chuckled lightly.

He gave her a light pat on the butt and said, "Go upstairs and freshen up."

With her parents around, Chloe couldn't throw a fit and had to go upstairs to tidy up.

Andrew wanted to carry Gavin to the car, but Gavin clung to him like glue, holding onto his neck and asking, "Daddy, can I really call you Daddy from now on?"

Andrew kissed his little nose and nodded.

Gavin looked a lot like him, inheriting those Devereux family traits.

Holding his soft son, it felt like a dream.

A huge wave of joy washed over him.

This feeling was no less than the passion he shared with Chloe last night.

Chloe quickly came downstairs.

Andrew put down their son, opened the car door for her, and let her sit beside him.

She always felt that Andrew's gaze was particularly gentle.

"Buckle up," he reminded.

Chloe quickly fastened her seatbelt, not daring to look at him.

Andrew drove his wife and son to preschool. Gavin was only excited, but the adults had very complex feelings.

It seemed like this was their first outing alone as a family of three.

No need to avoid others!

Chloe felt emotional, and after driving for a while, Andrew gently held her hand and asked in a low voice, "Are you tired? Did last night wear you out?"

In the back, Gavin's ears perked up. "Why would Mom be tired?"

Chloe felt shy.

Andrew glanced at her and chuckled lowly, with a hint of mischief.

Gavin, a bit naive, muttered to himself, "Lola said Charlotte is always tired because Frederick always bullies her and makes her cry."

Chloe's face burned with embarrassment.

Andrew, gripping the wheel, grinned, "Lola's got a lot of smarts, but she's also pretty sharp. Our kiddo seems to have picked up some of your goofiness. Guess I'll have to teach him the ropes."

He was milking it, and Chloe was fuming.

She clammed up.

The black sports car cruised smoothly, and half an hour later, it pulled up in front of a swanky preschool.

The car stopped.

Andrew hopped out, opened the back door, and scooped Gavin up. Gavin clung to him, his little face all red. "Can I start preschool tomorrow?"

Andrew smiled.

He held his son and naturally took Chloe's hand.

This preschool was top-tier, private, and for the elite.

Nathan had pulled some strings.

But even with Andrew's clout, they still needed to bring Gavin in for an interview.

It was the weekend, so only the principal and a few teachers were around.

Gavin got handed a test paper.

Andrew and Chloe were led to the principal's office. The nearly 60-year-old female principal gave them the once-over and then looked at Gavin's info.

Father: Andrew.

Mother: Chloe.

Parents' status: Unmarried.

The principal adjusted her glasses, looked at them, and asked, "Is this the Mr. Devereux from Copenhagen?"

Andrew smiled lightly. "Yep!"

The principal ignored him, pulled out a few more documents. After reading them, she threw out a seemingly random question. "Why aren't you married?"

Andrew looked at Chloe.

He gently put his arm around her shoulder and said, "We'll have the wedding soon!"

The principal said nothing more.

Andrew stood there waiting until Gavin came running over with his test paper, handing it to the principal. "I'm done!"

Andrew wanted to correct him.

But the principal, smiling, picked Gavin up and lovingly said, "Let me take a look and see how well you did."

Gavin was treated so gently that his little face turned red.

Andrew suddenly relaxed. Yeah, what was he stressing about?

They'd been through so much; why worry about their kid's schooling? Gavin was good-looking and likable; no way he wouldn't get in.

Gavin was in the principal's arms.

He didn't ace the test, but he was super obedient and well-behaved.

After the principal explained, he got it.

He even gave her a soft kiss.

The principal's eyes were full of tenderness.

Andrew glanced at Chloe.

As a mom, she was super nervous. Andrew gently held her hand and said softly, "Our kid's gonna be just fine."

Chloe didn't speak, her eyes moist.

The principal, still holding Gavin, looked up and said calmly, "Bring him over on Monday! The kid's good."

She put Gavin down.

Gavin clung to Andrew again, and the principal smiled. "The kid really likes his dad! Spend more time with him."

Andrew nodded.

As they walked out, Chloe patted her face. "Is that it?"

"What more do you want?" Andrew smiled.

Chloe said nothing.

She thought, 'Finally, it feels like being parents. From now on, at every stage of Gavin's growth, Andrew will be there with me!'
