Chapter 240 Mom and Dad Are Dating
Charlotte put up with him.
The kiss came outta nowhere and was way too rough. She was careful not to make things worse.
Frederick kissed her from her lips to her neck, then moved to the back of her ear, his voice all raspy. "Charlotte, you do care, don't you? You still got feelings for me, right? You just haven't let go, have you?"
Charlotte's hands were on his shoulders.
This whole situation was super embarrassing.
She took a deep breath before talking to him. "Put me down. The servants are gonna talk. How am I supposed to face them later? Plus, we're not even really married!"
Lola was too young to get it, but the servants definitely weren't clueless.
Frederick gave her a light bite. "They're all grown-ups, they get it. Besides, divorced couples getting back together is a thing. We can't just talk about love; being all lovey-dovey is normal."
Charlotte stared at him.
Frederick's voice was so raspy. "What are you looking at? If you really care about me, help me out."
Charlotte glanced down. She decided to ignore it and said, "You're not a lawyer anymore, but you still talk like one."
Frederick chuckled softly.
He put her down, letting her go to cook, while he took a moment to calm down before leaving.
Frederick left.
Charlotte felt a bit confused.
She actually wanted to ask him why he quit being a lawyer.
But she held back. She figured Frederick knew what she meant, but neither of them brought it up.
Charlotte admitted she had feelings for him.
She was a grown woman, and she wasn't frigid. If she didn't feel anything, that'd be weird.
But it was all happening too fast.
They'd always been on and off. If she got involved with him again too easily, it might mess things up for Lola if things went south.
Charlotte felt a bit unsettled.
At night, she leaned against the headboard, trying to get Lola to sleep.
Lola, small and curled up in her arms, closed her eyes.
Charlotte gently read the fairy tale "Cinderella."
Lola opened her eyes. "Daddy said last time that he is your prince."
Charlotte cleared her throat, thinking, 'Frederick is really shameless.'
Lola sighed contentedly. "The prince and princess always get married in the end."
Charlotte looked at her fair little face and kissed her lovingly.
Lola purred contentedly.
Charlotte thought she was about to fall asleep, put down the fairy tale book, and prepared to sleep, but Lola suddenly asked, "What about you and Daddy?"
Charlotte hugged her and gently said, "Daddy and I are dating."
Lola hugged her tightly.
Right then, Frederick walked in with a glass of milk, catching the tail end of the conversation.
He gave Charlotte a knowing smirk.
Charlotte's cheeks turned a bit pink. She picked up Lola. "Drink the milk and then sleep."
Lola was super sleepy and didn't want to drink.
Frederick sat on the bed, kissed Lola's cheek, and said in his raspy voice, "Let her sleep. You drink it."
Charlotte wasn't feeling it.
Frederick's eyes were clear, his voice still a bit hoarse. "Or should I feed you something else?"
Charlotte thought for a sec. She took the milk and slowly drank it.
In the dim light, she wore a silk nightgown, her golden hair cascading over her shoulders.
At her collarbone, a small patch of delicate skin peeked out.
Frederick stared for a long time.
Charlotte finished the milk, handed the cup back to him, and without daring to provoke him, lay down directly. "Turn off the light."
Frederick leaned over and turned off the light.
Then he gave her a goodnight kiss and whispered hoarsely in her ear, "Charlotte, when will you spend some time with me?"
Charlotte whispered, "Don't think about nonsense!"
His lips moved to hers, as gentle as a spring breeze, lightly stirring. "I think about it every night."
Before Charlotte could react, he left.
When Frederick opened the door, Charlotte heard it raining outside.
The rain was heavy, which was rare for this season.
At night, she was awakened by thunder.
The thunder roared. Lightning split the night sky and pierced through every window in the city, lighting up the room intermittently.
Lola woke up too, curled up in her arms, whimpering.
Charlotte hugged her and comforted her, "Don't be afraid."
Lola was scared.
She curled up into a small ball in Charlotte's arms, softly asking for Daddy.
Charlotte wanted to take her over.
But as soon as she opened the door, there was thunder and lightning outside.
At that moment, a strong wind suddenly blew open a window.
The wind and rain immediately poured in, soaking the whole bedroom—water even pooled on the floor near the window.
Charlotte couldn't care less. She quickly wrapped Lola in a small blanket, preparing to take her to Frederick's room.
Just as she was about to leave, the bedroom door opened.
Frederick, wearing a bathrobe, walked over in the dark, took Lola from Charlotte's arms, and whispered, "The power's out. The backup generator is also down. Come sleep in my room."
Charlotte couldn't be pretentious; she was scared too.
Frederick held Lola with one arm and embraced Charlotte with the other as they went to the master bedroom.
Probably because he was there, Lola wasn't as scared. She clung tightly to her dad's neck and wouldn't let go even when they got to the bed.
Frederick lay on his side, patiently soothing her.
After about half an hour, Lola gradually calmed down with his gentle patting, curling up obediently in his arms.
Her little feet rested on his abs.
Frederick kept patting her back gently.
He lifted his gaze slightly, looking at Charlotte across from him.
In such terrible weather, they were sleeping on the same bed, with a child between them—a life they had created together.
Frederick felt a softness in his heart.
Holding Lola, he reached out with one hand and gently touched Charlotte's fingertips. "Are you asleep?"
Of course, Charlotte wasn't asleep. She felt him touch her hand and gently hook his fingers around hers. His fingertips, with just a bit more warmth, seemed to burn her heart.
She closed her eyes in confusion. "I'm trying to sleep."
Outside, the thunder roared.
Frederick said softly and gently, "If Lola weren't here, I'd definitely hold you in my arms."
At some point, Charlotte conked out without noticing.
The only thing she was sure of was that he never let go of her hand.
Early in the morning, she woke up to Frederick's deep gaze, not knowing how long he had been watching her.
Having just woken up, Charlotte was soft and gentle.
She whispered, "I'll make breakfast for Lola."
As soon as she finished speaking, her slender wrist was caught by him. She didn't know how he moved over to her side, but when she came to her senses, she was already under him.
Frederick didn't say a word.
He held her hands, preventing her from moving, and slowly lowered his head to kiss her.
They kissed deeply and shallowly for a long time.
He whispered in her ear, "The power went out last night, there was no air conditioning, and you're lying on my bed dressed so little. Charlotte, you can't entirely blame me for my longing."
Charlotte glared at him. He was really being unreasonable.
He really wanted to possess her, but Lola was right there.
He didn't dare to be reckless. His fingers slipped into her silk nightgown, teasing her to make her comfortable. This situation was really unbearable. Charlotte couldn't take it and bit his shoulder. "Frederick, stop."
He gently coaxed her, "Are you shy? Don't make a sound."
Charlotte's face was flushed, her heart racing.
Sweat from Frederick dripped onto her neck.
His Adam's apple moved enticingly, suppressing himself.
But after years of holding back, with the woman he wanted right under him in such a vulnerable state, if he could still hold back, he wouldn't be a man.
Frederick leaned close to Charlotte's ear, softly coaxing, "Can I?"
Charlotte felt it too.
She was a grown woman with needs. Normally, she could control herself, but now he had aroused her so much. Still, she suppressed it and whispered, "No."
She was afraid, afraid of getting pregnant.
Frederick guessed her thoughts, reached over, and opened the bedside drawer, revealing a brand-new box.
He opened it with one hand, a bit clumsily.
Charlotte grabbed his hand, her voice trembling. "Frederick."
His deep eyes stared at her, filled with the charm of a mature man.
Charlotte almost couldn't resist.
Frederick couldn't hold back anymore and was about to indulge in a long-awaited intimacy. Lola turned over and then sat up straight. "Daddy, I need to go to the bathroom."
Frederick's body stiffened.
He rolled over and lay to the side, all his amorous thoughts gone.
So did Charlotte.
Her face flushed, she adjusted her nightgown and was about to get out of bed and leave.
Frederick reached out and hooked her slender waist, his voice hoarse. "She usually goes to the bathroom by herself, but she slept less last night and is groggy now, so she'll be especially clingy."
He explained so much, actually wanting to keep her.
Although nothing more could happen, Charlotte looked so soft and obedient now, something he hadn't seen in a long time.
He wanted her to stay in his bed.
Charlotte didn't leave because, in her current state, it wasn't appropriate to go out.
What if Dana saw her?
Frederick guessed her thoughts and whispered, "Sleep a little longer."
After saying that, he got up and took Lola to the bathroom.
After using the bathroom, Lola dressed herself and then ran outside to snuggle into Frederick's arms, acting spoiled for a while.
Frederick kissed her. "Brush your teeth and wash your face by yourself."
Lola's self-care skills were excellent. She ran back to the children's room, which had already been repaired by the workers.
Frederick sat on the edge of the bed.
Charlotte sat up and leaned against the headboard, watching him.
He did the same.
Just after nearly giving in to their desire, their eyes held a clear hint of intimacy. But now, as parents, they couldn't just act on impulse like before, regardless of the time.
Frederick had something to say.
He looked at Charlotte and whispered, "Next week is the company's anniversary celebration. Will you accompany me?"
