Chapter 766 The Truth! It Turns out Johnny Sacrificed a Leg for Her
The atmosphere in the car was tense. Saul hadn't seen Johnny like this in a long time.
He didn't dare make a sound, just quietly drove.
The luxurious black sedan cruised through the bustling streets of Syeattel. The city lights were just coming on, and there were many pedestrians on the sidewalks. Johnny turned to look out the window, for the first time, he felt disconnected from it all.
They slowly drove past the busy areas and into the quieter parts of town.
Finally, they turned onto a private tree-lined road and arrived at Johnny's villa. Just as Saul was about to park, Johnny suddenly said, "Park in the underground garage."
Saul was slightly taken aback but complied, turning the wheel.
The villa's underground garage was quite large. Johnny, being a car enthusiast, had collected about a dozen cars over the years and would occasionally drive different ones.
But now, Johnny sat in the back seat and quietly said, "You can get out."
Saul hesitated for a moment before leaving.
Inside the car, Johnny was alone. In the enclosed space, only his breathing could be heard. After a moment, he opened the car door and slowly got out, walking over to his collection of cars.
His long fingers gently brushed over them, reluctant to part.
But each car was covered in dust, none had been driven in over six months. Their only purpose now was to sit here and gather dust.
Johnny thought he would never have the chance to drive these cars again.
Just like Lola, he could never have her again.
After standing there for a long time, he took out his phone and called Felicity, giving a simple order, "Help me sell all the cars in the garage. Yes, just get a reasonable price."
On the other end, Felicity was stunned.
Those cars were Johnny's favorites, some were even bought with Lola. Now he wanted to sell them all?
She was afraid she had misheard and asked again to be sure.
Johnny, holding the phone, said, "Yes, sell them all!"
After hanging up, he looked once more at the things he used to love. Giving up these cars was like giving up his feelings for Lola, no matter how much he didn't want to, he had to let go.
Johnny took the elevator and slowly went upstairs.
He returned to the master bedroom, which was still arranged exactly as it had been as if he could still find traces of Lola.
He quietly looked around for a while, then walked to the wine cabinet and pulled out a bottle of red wine.
Since the car accident, he had rarely drunk alcohol because his leg didn't allow it.
But today, he wanted to drink a little.
He poured the deep red liquid into a wine glass and drank it down... letting the rich flavor slide down his throat, his Adam's apple moving slightly with the motion, which was actually quite sexy.
He drank several glasses in a row, finishing the bottle.
His left leg began to ache.
Johnny stared blankly at the small table in front of him, where a photo of him and Lola was placed. His eyes reddened as he gently picked it up and caressed it.
Later, he drank a lot more, so much that he couldn't feel the pain in his leg.
But no amount of alcohol could make him forget Lola.
When the housekeeper found him, they quickly called Felicity to handle the situation. Felicity hurriedly called a doctor, and Roy came over in the middle of the night, almost wanting to strangle Johnny.
If he was so determined to die, Roy might as well do it himself.
When Johnny sobered up, his left leg was twitching uncontrollably from the pain. Despite his anger, Roy gave him two painkiller injections, but they had little effect.
Roy looked up at him and said, "Painkillers aren't cutting it anymore. If you keep treating your body like this, you're gonna lose that leg for good."
Johnny knew that meant a lifetime in a wheelchair.
But he didn't seem to care much anymore.
*
Time flew by.
He and Lola occasionally met, sometimes at social events, sometimes because of the kids.
Most of the time, he was in a wheelchair.
He didn't avoid her much anymore because he always had Tracy by his side. It seemed having someone with him allowed him to salvage his pitiful dignity in front of Lola. Divorced couples, treat each other with respect.
Johnny thought it was fine.
By late summer, there was someone new by Lola's side, a well-dressed, handsome man.
Johnny knew this was a match arranged by the Hawkins family, and Lola no longer refused.
She and the man started appearing together.
Her attire became more feminine, her makeup more refined, and her gaze towards him grew increasingly indifferent as if she was looking at a stranger, with no trace of the love she once had for him.
This pained Johnny.
But he thought, "Johnny, isn't this what you wanted?"
To set her free, to let her start a new life.
So he felt both relieved and in pain, often drinking. Felicity frequently cleaned up his messes.
One day, they ran into each other at another party.
Lola danced with the man, then they left the ballroom hand in hand. As she left, the sight of her red dress stung Johnny's eyes, but he just leaned in a corner, quietly watching.
He felt like he was sick.
He let go, yet he obsessively followed Lola's every move. He knew when and where she went on dates with her match, and for how long.
He even checked their records.
They hadn't booked a hotel room.
He knew he was being creepy, but he couldn't control himself. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, he would dream of Lola lying under another man, making soft moans.
Johnny's emotions became increasingly uncontrollable.
During a collaboration with Mike, he almost got into a fight, and Felicity had to drag him away.
At today's party, he ran into Mike again.
Mike didn't dare provoke Johnny, keeping his distance while muttering curses.
"What's so great about him!"
"Johnny used to be impressive, and he's still rich, but so what? One car accident shattered his left leg, and he can't even walk properly. What's he so arrogant about! He says it's gout, what a joke, he's clearly crippled! Pretending in front of women, it's just his pathetic male pride being hurt. He probably doesn't even dare tell his ex-wife, I bet his dick got messed up too, he probably can't even have sex, just a useless man!"
Around the corner, Lola stood by the window.
She wasn't actually dating the match, it was more of a mutual arrangement to avoid further matchmaking.
Fireworks were going off outside, and she quietly watched.
As Mike passed by, she heard every word of his nasty comments.
He said Johnny's leg was crippled,
He said Johnny's leg was because of the car accident.
He said Johnny didn't have gout, his leg was shattered.
Atthat moment, Lola felt her heart was about to burst out of her chest, her hands clenched tightly.
Bright red blood seeped from her fingers.
She had a clotting disorder, which was actually very dangerous, but she didn't notice.
All she knew at that moment was one thing.
Johnny had sacrificed his left leg to save her. That's why he needed a wheelchair, why he walked unnaturally, why he couldn't stand to hold Stella, why he told her he had a girlfriend, why he told her, "Lola, you have a long life ahead, find someone else."
