Chapter 852 He Doesn't Want Her to Live in Hatred Forever
Late at night, Grant returned to the bedroom.
Nancy was sitting quietly, lost in thought.
He knew she was grieving; after all, her parents had just passed away in such a tragic manner.
Hearing the door close, Nancy snapped out of her daze.
She looked at Grant, tears still glistening on her cheeks.
Grant walked over and gently wiped her tears with a tissue, his voice soft, "Thinking about your mom?"
Nancy put down the photo album she had brought from the Walsh Villa.
"Yeah," she said quietly, her voice tinged with sadness. "Grant, I keep thinking if I had insisted on keeping her that day, maybe things wouldn't have ended like this."
Grant knelt down and gently touched her belly.
After a moment, he said softly, "But she would have lived her whole life in resentment and anger. She wouldn't have been happy."
"Nancy, I'm not saying what she did was right, but we can't change what happened... This isn't your fault. Don't blame yourself, okay?"
Nancy looked down at him.
She stared for a long time before tears started falling again, like a string of broken pearls.
The night was filled with sudden sorrow.
Nancy cried, and Grant gently held her.
At that moment, neither of them felt good. They had both lost almost all their family and would have to rely on each other from now on.
Nancy sobbed, her voice choked and broken, "But I'm still so sad."
Grant comforted her gently.
At that moment, he deeply realized that the person in his arms was his wife... They would support each other for a lifetime.
Benjamin stood at the door.
He couldn't sleep in a strange bed.
But when he walked to the door, he saw Nancy crying so sadly.
She had been so fierce during the day; he thought she wouldn't cry... Benjamin slowly realized that he didn't have a mom anymore either.
His little face was blank.
After a while, he hugged his pillow and went back to his room, lying down quietly.
Kids always cry.
In the middle of the night, his pillow was soaked.
At dawn, Grant got up to make breakfast.
Benjamin obediently got up, made his bed, washed up, watered the plants on the balcony, and even swept the living room. His maturity was heartbreaking.
Grant told him to sit and eat.
With a child and a pregnant woman in the house, breakfast was plentiful, with plenty of eggs and milk.
Benjamin was usually very picky, only eating the delicious food made by chefs. He wasn't used to homemade meals...
But thinking of Nancy crying last night, he swallowed the egg with a lump in his throat.
Grant patted his head, "I'll take you to school in a bit."
Benjamin nodded vigorously.
He tried hard to finish his sandwich and drank his milk.
Before leaving, he carefully said at the bedroom door, "Nancy, I'm going to school!"
Nancy didn't respond!
Grant took Benjamin away, saying as they went downstairs, "Nancy isn't awake yet."
But Benjamin knew she was awake; she just didn't want to talk to him.
He got into the car, feeling dejected.
As Grant started the car, Benjamin suddenly asked, "Dad and Mom... they're never coming back, are they?"
Grant gripped the steering wheel.
After a long time, he said softly, "No, they're not coming back. You'll live with us from now on."
Benjamin rested his chin on his knees.
He was young and didn't understand the complexities of human emotions, but he had already lost his closest family.
Grant took Benjamin away.
Nancy got up. Normally, she would be up by now.
She deliberately stayed in bed to avoid Benjamin. She had brought him back on a whim but didn't know how to interact with him.
Besides, she harbored some resentment towards him.
If it weren't for Benjamin's existence, her mother wouldn't have died.
But she knew this resentment was irrational. The real culprit was her father, Royce. It was Royce who had done wrong, yet she blamed an innocent child.
If she could, she believed he wouldn't have wanted such a background either.
Nancy washed up, had breakfast, and started tidying the house.
After cleaning the living room and her bedroom, she hesitated but eventually walked into the small room.
Benjamin had already tidied up.
The floor was clean, and the bed was neatly made. But...
Nancy sat on the bed and touched the pillow, feeling the dampness. Upon closer inspection, she realized most of the pillow was wet.
Nancy felt a mix of emotions.
She sat quietly for a long time, then took the pillow outside to dry and washed the pillowcase.
By evening, she had put everything back in place, making sure no one would notice.
In the afternoon, Grant picked up Benjamin.
They went grocery shopping together, buying vegetables, meat, and some fruit.
Benjamin, knowing he couldn't earn money, didn't want to buy anything expensive and chose the cheapest apples.
Grant bought two coconuts, inserted a straw, and let him drink.
Benjamin took a cautious sip.
He found it delicious.
He held Grant's hand tightly, thinking how nice it would be if Nancy would let him hold her hand like this when they went out...
Blood ties are strong. No matter how well Grant treated him, Nancy held a special place in his heart.
When they got home, Grant noticed some snacks and a set of toys on the small dining table. They looked quite expensive...
Nancy had been saving money lately and wouldn't usually buy such things.
Grant looked at Benjamin, "Thank Nancy."
Benjamin was stunned, "These are for me?"
Nancy was in the kitchen making a fruit salad. With her back turned, she paused and said, "I didn't buy them specifically for you, just picked them up."
Grant chuckled and patted Benjamin.
Benjamin took the toys and snacks to his room.
After putting down the toys, he suddenly remembered something and went to check his pillow.
The pillow was dry, and when he sniffed it, it smelled like sunshine.
Benjamin stood there, dazed.
After a while, he hugged the pillow tightly, unwilling to let go, tears streaming down his face...
At the door, Nancy watched quietly. After a long time, she said softly, "If you cry and wet it again, no one will dry it for you!"
Benjamin immediately stopped crying.
He obediently said, "Thank you, Nancy."
"Brat!"
Nancy scolded him, but her eyes were wet.
Benjamin walked over, trying to reach up and wipe her tears, but he was too short and could only look up at her.
Nancy realized she had lost her composure.
She composed herself and said, "Dinner isn't ready yet. Do your homework first! If you're hungry, have some fruit."
Benjamin nodded vigorously. She said one thing, and he nodded once.
So silly!
Nancy felt a pang of sadness. She suddenly understood why he insisted on coming back with her.
Here, even if she disliked him, there was still a bit of kindness left.
But if he went to an orphanage, who knew what might happen.
Nancy knelt down. She wouldn't say anything sentimental because she still cared about his background... But she felt sorry for him and thought she should be kinder to him.
Benjamin sensed her emotions.
He didn't say anything, just kept wiping Nancy's tears...
Outside the door, Grant watched quietly.
If Benjamin hadn't come back with them, he would have been a permanent thorn in Nancy's heart. She would always hate her father for having an illegitimate child.
But with Benjamin with them, he became Nancy's brother.
In his youth, Grant had been consumed by hatred.
He didn't want Nancy to live in hatred too.
