Chapter 270 Frederick, I Think I Should Let You Go!

Charlotte, hair all over the place, bolted downstairs.

She tore through the whole villa, even checked the basement, but no sign of him.

"Frederick, where the heck are you?"

Just when she was about to lose it, a tall figure strolled in from outside. The light behind him made it hard to see his face, but Charlotte knew it was him.

"Frederick!" She flung herself into his arms.

Frederick wrapped one arm around her and nuzzled her neck. "What's up?"

Charlotte pressed her cheek against his chest. "Frederick, I'm freaked out! I'm scared you'll leave and never come back!"

"I won't. Don't cry. If you keep crying, my heart's gonna break." He helped her sit down and plopped a bag of breakfast on the dining table.

Charlotte was a bit stunned. Did he go out to grab breakfast?

Frederick gently stroked her cold cheek and gave her a warm smile. "You haven't been eating much lately. This breakfast spot used to be your fave. Dig in."

He got it just for her.

Charlotte's fingers shook as she scooped a small piece and put it in her mouth.

It was salty, tasted like tears.

Frederick sat next to her, watching her eat.

He spoke softly, "Charlotte, I've found a high-end sanatorium. The place is great, and I want to go there for treatment."

Charlotte's spoon clattered onto the table.

Frederick tried to pick it up, but she was faster. She grabbed it and wiped it furiously with a napkin.

Frederick watched her quietly.

He knew she couldn't handle it, but it was the best option.

He was slowly forgetting. Each day, the time he could remember her and Lola was getting shorter. Once he forgot everything, he wouldn't have any feelings for them anymore.

Their interactions would become a nightmare.

Lola had autism; he couldn't scare her.

He slowly explained everything, gently coaxing her, "Charlotte, maybe with treatment, I can get my old memories back."

Charlotte's lips trembled. She knew deep down that if things weren't so bad, he wouldn't choose this.

Because Lola was his world.

Charlotte kept crying, her sobs low and choked. Frederick couldn't stand it and gently held her in his arms. "Please stop crying. If you cry, the baby in your belly will cry too."

Charlotte clung to his shirt, sobbing in his embrace.

In the afternoon, Frederick locked himself up again.

Charlotte stood at the basement entrance, her slender fingers gently stroking the heavy door.

She didn't dare to go in.

She was scared of seeing his unfamiliar eyes, scared of seeing him repeatedly reading the diary just to buy some more time with her.

She knew Frederick was paying a painful price for this.

He often had migraines.

"Frederick, would you really not be in pain if you completely forgot about me?"

Charlotte quietly left and told the driver to get the car ready.

Dana cautiously asked, "Should we bring some food to Frederick?"

Charlotte was about to get in the car. Hearing this, she lowered her eyes. "There's food inside. Let him have some peace; don't bug him."

She knew Frederick was too proud. He wouldn't want others to see him like this.

After speaking, Charlotte got into the car. The driver asked softly, "Charlotte, where to?"

"South Hill Hospital."

The driver didn't say another word and drove silently. They were all part of the Hawkins family and felt sad for both Frederick and Charlotte.

Half an hour later, the car pulled into the sanatorium, and Charlotte met with the top doc.

When she came out and sat in the car, she couldn't help but cry.

The doc's words still echoed in her ears.

"If I'm not mistaken, Frederick's memory stopped five years ago. Although he has lost part of his memory, he can still live and work normally. Forcing him to recall won't help and will cause him great pain. In fact, he has already tried. He was in a lot of pain at that time. Mrs. Hawkins. Please think it over carefully!"

Frederick had tried. How much pain did he go through back then?

Charlotte gently closed her eyes.

Her heart was heavy with a sadness she couldn't even describe.

The driver stayed quiet, just kept handing her tissues, offering silent comfort.

Charlotte didn't head home.

She went to Vertex Innovations Group and walked into Frederick's old office, touching every corner like it was a precious memory.

Lucy brought in some water.

Charlotte turned slightly and softly said, "Can you ask Cherie to come over?"

Lucy nodded and smiled. "Sure thing, Ms. Russell."

She left, and after a bit, Cherie walked in.

With Frederick gone, she was swamped, carrying a big stack of documents. "Ms. Russell, these all need your signature."

Charlotte motioned for her to put them down.

Cherie, a bit puzzled, set the documents down.

Charlotte asked her to sit, and after a long pause, she softly asked, "What was Frederick like before?"

She already knew from when they first met, but she wanted to hear it from Cherie, someone who had worked with him for years.

Cherie was surprised.

Then she smiled faintly, like she was reminiscing, and started telling Charlotte about how Frederick founded Wise Counsel Law Firm after graduation, how he won his first case, and how he was usually so arrogant and distant.

Cherie talked for a while, finally smiling apologetically. "Charlotte, I might have gone on too long."

But Charlotte, in a gentle voice, said, "I love hearing it."

Cherie felt quite touched.

She had worked in the legal industry for years, seeing many couples break up and countless battles over property.

She could tell that Charlotte and Frederick were deeply in love.

Cherie was at a loss for words, but Charlotte had already stood up and softly instructed, "Set up a press conference for me. I have an announcement to make."

Cherie realized something.

Charlotte's expression was calm, but there was a barely noticeable determination in her demeanor, a composure that came from careful consideration.

After a moment of hesitation, Cherie nodded. "Yes, Ms. Russell. I'll get right on it."

The office door closed.

Charlotte slowly walked into the lounge and gently opened the closet. Inside were rows of Frederick's suits and shirts, and a white women's suit.

Charlotte changed into the clothes and put on high heels.

She pulled her blonde hair into a bun in front of the mirror and applied light makeup.

As she did all this, her movements were slow, and she recalled the words of the astrologer.

"Frederick, if I can't keep you, if you're destined to fly to a broader sky, then I'll let you fly. And I'll wait for your return."

An hour later, Charlotte met the media for the first time as the president of Vertex Innovations Group.

As a daughter-in-law of a wealthy family, she wore a professional suit, with no extra expensive jewelry, except a pair of small pearl earrings.

Because they were a gift from Frederick.

She spoke into the microphone, facing countless cameras, with a light but firm voice. "My husband Frederick will be pursuing a new field of work. Therefore, I will be taking over as the president of Vertex Innovations Group. From now on, I will work alongside the 4,500 employees of Vertex Innovations Group, striving for the company's success!"

The media went wild.

There had been rumors that Frederick was unwell and unfit to work, causing Vertex Innovations Group's stock to plummet.

But today, Charlotte's announcement reassured everyone that Vertex Innovations Group was still under the control of the Hawkins family.

That day, Vertex Innovations Group's stock began to rebound from its low point.
