Chapter 414 I Want to Sleep Here Tonight
Andrew looked like he'd seen a ghost.
He got what she was hinting at; she was ready to throw in the towel!
He stared at her, his voice dropping a notch. "Chloe, I know this sucks for you! But can you give me a bit more time? I was the one who vouched for Luke back then, and the Jackson family's only got this one kid."
Chloe turned her head, staring out the window.
She murmured, "Andrew, I just want a chill life. I don't care if you're the big-shot Mr. Devereux or not. What matters is that you, Gavin, and I can live together without all this drama."
She felt let down, but years of feelings don't just vanish overnight.
Chloe slumped on the couch, looking worn out.
She said quietly, "It's late. I'll show you to the guest room."
But Andrew scooped her up and headed for the bed.
Chloe was taken aback.
She smacked his shoulder. "Andrew, what are you doing?"
He laid her on the bed, then felt her icy feet. He warmed them with his hands, and she kept staring at him with teary eyes.
Andrew pressed his forehead to hers. "I'm sleeping here!"
Chloe turned away. "You sleep in the guest room!"
Andrew didn't say a word, got off the bed, and walked straight to the bathroom.
There was a bathrobe of his there, and he changed into it after washing up.
He lay down on the bed, Chloe with her back to him, and he gently pulled her into his arms.
Chloe's body tensed up. She whispered, "Don't touch me."
Andrew's lips brushed the back of her ear, staying silent.
He hoped she'd get where he was coming from, but he knew it was a long shot. Over the years, he'd given her so little.
He stayed quiet.
Chloe cried silently.
She blamed him because they could've been happy, but he got tangled up in trouble again. A smart guy like him should've seen through Celeste's game, yet he still walked right into it.
In the dead of night, he whispered, "I'm sorry."
Chloe didn't respond, only her thin shoulders shook violently.
The next morning, it was already eight when Andrew woke up.
He reached out and found the bed empty.
He got up, threw on some clothes, and dashed to the first floor.
In the dining room, Frederick was sitting there, reading the newspaper.
He was rocking a black shirt and dark gray trousers, with neatly trimmed short hair.
He looked totally sharp and full of energy.
Sitting beside him were Johnny, Lola, Kingsley, and Gavin.
They were all kids, but Frederick had a knack for making them eat properly and look out for each other, keeping everything neat.
Especially Kingsley, who was Lola's personal little toy.
Seeing Andrew come downstairs, Lola beamed and called out, "Andrew!"
Andrew picked up the little girl and sat beside Gavin.
Gavin was sulking.
He also called out, "Andrew." Andrew didn't get mad but gently patted his little head. "Did Mom tell you to call me that?"
Gavin lowered his head.
Andrew asked again, "Does the wound still hurt?"
Gavin shook his head.
He said sadly, "I can't go to school for half a month."
Andrew tried to cheer him up a bit.
At this point, Frederick folded the newspaper and lazily said, "Did you sleep well last night?"
Andrew wasn't in the mood for chit-chat.
But Frederick was all in. He sipped his black coffee with a smirk and teased, "You've been running around; you should clean yourself up! I forgot to mention, Chloe actually cares a lot about a handsome face. If you don't keep yourself looking good, this marriage might not happen!"
Andrew wanted to punch Frederick in the mouth!
Frederick kept sipping his coffee, a smug grin on his face.
Just then, Charlotte came downstairs.
She was getting up later every day because of the pregnancy, and Frederick was mostly handling the kids at home.
Seeing her come down, Frederick jumped up to help her.
Andrew watched, feeling a pang of envy.
Charlotte sat down and gave Andrew a gentle nod.
Andrew adored her and said softly, "Sorry for causing all the trouble to you and Frederick."
Charlotte gave a faint smile. She said, "I heard you're going to court, and Frederick plans to handle the case for you."
Andrew was a bit taken aback.
Frederick casually flipped through the newspaper, his tone cool. "I'm doing it for Chloe."
Andrew accepted the help.
After breakfast, he and Frederick headed to the study to talk about the case.
After hashing out the details, Frederick flicked the ash from his cigarette, squinting slightly. "Chloe's still mad at you, huh? Andrew, I get her, but I get you too!"
Andrew didn't want to get tangled up with Celeste; he couldn't abandon Luke's kid.
Guys often had similar hang-ups.
But then Frederick's tone shifted. "But I only have one sister, so you get one shot! I've done all I can, but your future is on you!"
The worst-case scenario: he'd take care of Chloe forever.
Andrew squinted back at Frederick.
He still remembered when Frederick found out about him and Chloe, he was the first to rush to Copenhegan and throw punches.
Time had made Frederick more mature and elegant.
But Andrew's age was showing.
Frederick didn't say much more; the topic was a sore spot, and he didn't want to push it. Otherwise, Charlotte would be upset.
Andrew spent the morning with Gavin, and around noon, he headed to the set where Chloe was filming.
Chloe spotted him.
During a break, she walked over.
Andrew was still in yesterday's clothes, looking mature and refined. Chloe, about 5'7", still had to look up at him.
Their eyes locked.
Andrew softened his voice. "Adeline's not feeling well. I need to head back to Copenhegan for a bit."
He seemed a bit down. With his hands in his pockets, he gave a bitter smile. "Got a few projects to wrap up."
Chloe got what he meant.
He couldn't stay in Syeattel forever; he'd quit his job, and starting over at his age was no small feat.
Thinking of this, her attitude softened a bit. "Be safe on your way back. Next time, take Nathan with you."
Andrew gave a faint smile. "Do you miss me, or do you miss Nathan?"
Chloe's eyes welled up.
Just then, the photographer called her over.
She wasn't in a good state and took a while to get it together, especially after using eye drops.
Andrew felt a pang of sadness watching her.
He stood there quietly for a long time before turning to leave.
He thought to himself, they could each find their own place if they weren't together. She could be the Hawkins family's young lady without proving anything to him. He could still be the respected Andrew without bearing the responsibility for a girl's future.
But they still gave up everything and ran towards each other.
Andrew's eyes turned red.
At his age, showing too much emotion wasn't his style, especially with all these people around, including her colleagues and boss.
But Andrew still walked over. He stood right in front of her.
She was taken aback.
Everyone around went silent, recognizing Andrew.
Andrew spoke gently, "I'll be back in a couple of days."
Chloe didn't say a word, just looked up at him. He gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and said softly, "Even though I'm older than you, even though I don't have much right now, I still want to marry you."
With that, he walked away.
Chloe stood there, lightly biting her red lips.
That evening, she wanted to avoid Frederick.
But Frederick called her back. "Are you ditching your own son? Chloe, let me tell you, Charlotte is pregnant; don't even think about leaving the kid with her."
Chloe had always been scared of him.
She had no choice but to drive to the villa.
Charlotte, as always, treated her gently, making her feel a bit guilty.
Frederick leaned on the sofa.
He looked at her with a reserved and noble air. "Did you see the old guy? How did the talk go?"
Chloe stammered.
Lola came over and climbed into Frederick's lap. "Daddy, who is the old guy?"
These things shouldn't be known to kids.
Frederick patted her chubby little butt. "Go play with Johnny!"
Lola pouted.
Johnny was reading documents!
Chloe awkwardly asked, "Johnny is so young, and he has to read documents?"
Frederick said righteously, "So you and your husband should hurry up and take Gavin back, or else he'll be raised the same way here."
Frederick looked at her, his voice softening.
He patted Chloe's head and said gently, "I'll help him with this case! The kid will definitely be brought back, but Celeste will be utterly disgraced! Chloe, you can choose to break up with him, and that's not wrong! But Andrew has also sacrificed a lot for you. If he hadn't resigned, his future position would be unimaginable, but he chose to give it up to become an ordinary businessman."
Chloe knew this well.
Frederick saw her softening and gently pressed her head onto his shoulder.
"Give him a chance! If he messes up again, you can deal with him then!"
Frederick's voice was gentle and emotional. "If you give up now, I'll feel sorry for both of you."
Chloe felt comforted by his gentleness.
Their sibling bond was strong, and in her grievance, she found a sense of reliance, crying sadly on his shoulder.
Frederick patted her little head.
In his heart, Chloe would always be a little girl. He had a feeling that his Sienna would be like her aunt, also a silly little girl.
Charlotte came downstairs and saw them.
Chloe felt a bit embarrassed. She was also worried that Charlotte might feel uncomfortable, given that she was so close to Frederick despite being so grown-up.
Charlotte didn't say anything. She just glanced at Frederick lightly.
At night, after finishing his work, Frederick stretched.
He unbuttoned his shirt and returned to the master bedroom.
Charlotte had finished her bath, wearing a silk nightgown, and was sitting at the vanity combing her long blonde hair.
She took time to maintain herself, and from behind, she still looked very slender.
Frederick walked over and hugged her from behind.
He pressed his prominent nose against her delicate neck and said softly, "You smell so good! You changed your body wash?"
Charlotte murmured in agreement.
She tilted her head to receive his kiss, her voice breaking intermittently. "Are you really going to handle Andrew's case?"
Frederick slipped his hand into her nightgown.
He was always skilled, quickly making her lose control.
Charlotte grabbed his hand. She wouldn't let him continue.
They had been married for a long time, and Frederick knew her thoughts well. He deliberately bit her lightly behind her ear. "Are you mad?"
Charlotte blushed and pushed him away.
Frederick chuckled. He carried Charlotte to the bed, letting her support herself, and then unbuttoned her.
Her white, tender belly was high and swollen. Inside, their third child was growing.
Frederick propped himself up on one side, gently touching her belly with one hand, his voice hoarse. "Chloe, in my heart, is just like Lola and Sienna, a delicate little girl!"
He teased lightly.
Charlotte couldn't stand his flirting behavior; he was clearly doing it on purpose.
Frederick hadn't had enough.
He gently laid her down, kissed the corner of her mouth, and coaxed her, "Little girls are cherished, but a wife is different!"
Charlotte gradually got aroused by him.
Besides, his face was really handsome.
She couldn't help but reach out, gently touching his face, and asked, "How is a wife different?"
Frederick leaned close to her ear, laughing softly. "A wife is someone who sleeps with me for a lifetime."
Charlotte angrily kicked him.
But he caught her foot.
Frederick gently touched it, his gaze deep and unreadable. "Your belly is so big, but your legs are still so slender."
He spoke more and more inappropriately.
Charlotte knew him well, understanding that he really wanted it.
She cupped his handsome face, speaking softly, "Be careful of the baby."
Frederick, having been teased for so long, wouldn't miss such an opportunity.
He kissed her deeply, his emotions running high.
Charlotte closed her eyes, letting him enjoy her body.
Two days later, Andrew came over.
His relationship with Chloe was still lukewarm, which made Frederick angry.
He directly sent them back to their own home.
Watching the car drive away, Frederick felt satisfied.
Charlotte scolded him, "Frederick, you're so rough!"
With no one around, Frederick gently pinched her chin, shaking it lightly. "When the baby in your belly is born, I'll show you what rough really means!"
Charlotte called him improper.
Frederick followed her, saying leisurely, "After this baby, we definitely can't have any more!"
Charlotte thought, 'I can't argue with a rogue.'
She went upstairs and quietly read for a while.
After a while, she thought about the Landon family's matters.
The plan was well set, but Landon's mother, Jennifer, suddenly fell ill.
So the plan was postponed.
Charlotte stroked her belly, thinking she would wait until the baby was born.
She wasn't in a hurry, but Landon was getting impatient.
Meanwhile, a black car picked up Chloe and Gavin.
Nathan sat in the front.
He turned around, cheerfully saying, "From now on, Mr. Devereux will have time to be with you. Gavin, are you happy?"
Gavin responded.
Andrew sat in the back, looking much better. He smiled and said, "Nathan, don't call me Mr. Devereux anymore! Just call me Andrew."
The Devereux family had many businesses, but he had started a new company.
Everything was just beginning, and he was confident he could make it work!
Back at the villa he had bought, he carried Gavin out of the car, kissed him, and then asked softly, "Is Mom still mad?"
