Chapter 625 Should I congratulate Ms. Butler?
Kingsley was rocking a black sweater with a gray coat slung over his arm, looking like he was about to head out.
Amara accidentally bumped into his chest.
He steadied her with one hand, his tone cool. "You're back?"
He glanced behind him and said, "Hailey took Jesse out to play."
Amara wanted to ask why he was here, but he seemed to read her mind and continued, "I came to drop something off for Jesse, and I'm about to leave."
Kingsley seemed to think that wasn't enough. He put on his coat, looked at her suitcase, and then raised his eyes. "I want to talk to you about Jesse. Is now a good time?"
His tone was that of a perfectly rational ex, not clingy at all.
Amara didn't want to seem undignified either.
She put down her suitcase and said calmly, "Alright."
Kingsley had already opened the door. "I'll be waiting for you at the café on the corner." With that, he went downstairs.
Amara heard the door close. She stood at the door for a moment to collect herself, then dragged her suitcase back to the bedroom. Without unpacking, she quickly washed her face and followed him out.
After a busy month, she had lost a lot of weight. When she arrived at the café and took off her coat, she looked quite slim.
Kingsley ordered a cup of coffee for her.
Amara took a sip, and Kingsley, watching her, said indifferently, "I heard you got promoted. Congrats."
His tone was somewhat cold and mocking.
Amara just smiled slightly. "Thank you, Mr. Hawkins."
Kingsley leaned back in his chair, quietly looking at her for a while before continuing, "How do you plan to raise Jesse? Are you going to keep him with you all the time?"
Amara held her coffee cup and retorted, "Do you want him? Didn't you say that if we weren't together, Jesse wouldn't be a legitimate heir? So it's better for him to stay with me."
Kingsley actually nodded. "That's fine too."
He took a document out of his coat pocket and gently placed it in front of Amara. She picked it up and saw it was a joint custody agreement. It was a simple agreement stating that Jesse would live with her and receive a monthly child support payment of forty thousand dollars, along with a special education fund. In short, Kingsley ensured that Jesse would be well provided for, and he retained visitation rights.
Amara breathed a sigh of relief; this arrangement was actually quite good.
Kingsley drank half a cup of coffee and handed her a pen. "It looks like you're satisfied. If there are no issues, sign it, and we can consider this matter settled. From now on, we'll go our separate ways."
He was somewhat aggressive.
Amara had to sign it; otherwise, it would seem like she was reluctant.
The agreement was in duplicate. Her hand trembled slightly as she signed, but she didn't hesitate because Kingsley had already signed it, probably waiting for her to return.
After signing, she handed the agreement to him.
Kingsley put away one copy, then gracefully stood up and said goodbye.
Throughout the entire process, he didn't say a single unnecessary word or mention anything about personal feelings. It seemed he had made up his mind over the past month to cut ties completely.
If it weren't for Jesse, they wouldn't even need these formalities.
Amara nodded slightly.
She didn't leave immediately but slowly finished her cup of coffee. In the middle of winter, Kingsley had ordered her an iced coffee, which said it all.
She didn't dwell on it; they had separated, so she didn't expect Kingsley to be considerate anymore.
To Kingsley, she was just Jesse's mom.
When Kingsley left, Amara felt a chill all over. But she didn't regret leaving him. Their ways of thinking were just too different. If they had actually gotten married, the constant arguments would have been even worse for Jesse.
When Amara got back to the apartment, Hailey and Jesse were already there.
Besides them, Billy and Naomi were there with their kid, Nicole. The place was buzzing with life.
Amara was stunned when she opened the door.
She stood there for a while before Hailey, while picking vegetables, said awkwardly, "Last time you lent Billy some money, he made quite a bit and paid off his debts. He also brought Naomi and Nicole to live with him."
Amara smiled faintly and greeted them.
Nicole, about seven or eight years old, was a well-behaved little girl who looked at Amara timidly. Amara walked over, bent down, and took out a gift box. "Call me, and this gift box is yours."
Hailey laughed. "You're still teasing Nicole at this age."
Unexpectedly, Nicole sweetly called out, "Ms. Butler," because she liked the beautiful Amara, who was dressed nicely and smelled good.
Amara gave the gift box to Nicole and patted her little head.
Jesse was quite attached to Nicole, following her around.
The kids went off to play, and Amara changed her clothes to help Hailey with dinner. Billy was comfortably watching TV, while Naomi sat beside Amara, looking a bit reserved.
After a while, Hailey spoke up, "Mr. Hawkins brought some food over earlier. Everything in the kitchen is from him. For someone of his status to bring it up here himself, it must have been hard for him."
Amara nodded. "I ran into him earlier."
Seeing her expression, Hailey knew the meeting hadn't been pleasant. She sighed lightly. "Despite your mutual feelings, your pride keeps you apart."
Amara couldn't discuss business matters with Hailey.
Kingsley hadn't left her any way out.
Since he took away the Ascend Global Group's business, the conflict between the Carter Group and the Hawkins Group had intensified!
Amara's situation was delicate. She could either leave the Carter Group to be with Kingsley, or if she wanted to stay at the Carter Group, she couldn't have any emotional ties with Kingsley.
Hailey used Billy and Naomi as an example. "Look at Billy and Naomi. They argue a lot, but they're doing well now."
Amara smiled slightly.
Naomi blushed, and Billy came over to hug her. "You're making Naomi shy."
Amara took the opportunity to say, "Then you should work hard and give them a good life."
Billy, having made money this time, was very grateful to Amara.
His throat tightened. "I will!"
The family dinner was lively. Billy, having heard from others about Amara's promotion, brought it up again, making the atmosphere even more cheerful. Hailey couldn't stop smiling, and even Naomi felt hopeful about the future.
After dinner, Billy handed a card to Amara. "There's seventy thousand dollars in it. The extra is a gift for Jesse. I've been freeloading for years and haven't given anything good."
Amara wouldn't take it. "Billy, you keep it! Save up for a down payment on a house. Nicole will start elementary school soon, and you need to plan for her."
Billy lowered his head. "Alright. I'll definitely pay it back in the future."
Amara didn't care about these things. Hailey's kindness couldn't be repaid with seventy thousand dollars.
