Chapter 460 They Haven't Felt This Way in a Long Time
The next day, Frederick swung by Andrew's company and signed the contract.
Later, Nathan showed up to report to Andrew, looking a bit bitter.
Andrew wasn't really bothered about the money; it was more his competitive streak that had him feeling a bit off.
When Chloe came over, Andrew kept giving her these weird looks. She touched her face and asked, "What's up with me?"
Andrew thought for a second and then asked, "Do you remember everything from your childhood?"
Chloe thought he was being ridiculous.
She glanced at her script and said, "Yeah, all of it."
Andrew scratched his chin, looking puzzled. "Then why is there such a big difference in smarts between you and Frederick? It doesn't add up!"
Chloe wasn't dumb. She connected the dots to what Charlotte had said last night and got it. Andrew was looking down on her!
She closed her script and forced a smile. "Looks like you're feeling better! Fine, the crew's been begging me to shoot; I'll pack up and leave this afternoon."
Chloe meant it and wasn't joking around.
Her fingers were on the doorknob when a warm hand covered hers.
Andrew gently pressed the door lock.
In the big VIP hospital room, it was quiet, just their breathing filling the space.
After a while, Chloe softly said, "Andrew, let go of me! We're past solving problems by sleeping together!"
Andrew let out a light hum.
His long, fair fingers gently stroked her waist, and he whispered in her ear, "How do you know?"
Chloe felt a mix of embarrassment and annoyance.
With him so close, it was obvious what he wanted!
Andrew kissed the back of her ear lightly for a bit and then said softly, "Stay with me! I'll go with you when I'm discharged, okay? We'll come back together after you're done filming."
With him being so humble, Chloe couldn't help but feel moved!
But she didn't want to be manipulated by him anymore. Even though she gave up the idea of going to work, she didn't want to stay here tonight. The atmosphere was too charged, and Andrew was still sick, so he really shouldn't be messing around.
So she stayed for a bit and then went back to her apartment.
The kids were at the Hawkins Mansion.
Chloe rarely had time to herself, so she wanted to take this chance to relax.
She made a steak, opened a bottle of red wine, and played a record she liked by a female singer from Torontow.
When she sat at the dining table, sipping red wine, she realized she hadn't relaxed in a long time. Her life revolved entirely around Andrew and the kids. Now, thinking about it calmly, this was probably why she insisted on acting—to keep herself busy and think less about Andrew.
It turned out that many years had passed in a blur.
She turned to look out the window. She suddenly didn't feel so sad anymore. Compared to love, it seemed that Andrew being alive was enough.
Chloe's eyes were moist. Never had she felt the significance of Andrew to her, nor had she ever been so rational.
The doorbell rang.
Chloe thought it was a delivery. She opened the door and was stunned.
Andrew stood there, rocking a white shirt and black trousers, looking all elegant, though his face was a bit pale.
He held a bouquet of red roses and a bottle of fancy vintage red wine.
He seemed to catch a whiff of the wine she was drinking. Andrew smiled lightly, "You should try this one."
It took Chloe a moment to snap out of it. She took the roses and let Andrew in.
She'd been with Andrew for years, and he rarely gave her flowers.
She took a deep breath of the roses, closed the door, and said, "You're still sick; how did the doctor let you out?"
"I snuck out." Andrew placed the bottle of wine on the dining table and naturally noticed the steak dinner and the half-full glass of wine. His gaze deepened.
Chloe put the flowers away and then looked at him. "Want to eat something together?"
Andrew took a small bite of steak that she had eaten. But he couldn't eat much of this. Andrew rolled up his shirt sleeves and asked her, "Got any ingredients in the fridge? I'll whip up a few dishes."
Chloe lightly touched the flowers and looked at him. "Did you come just to cook?"
Andrew smiled and walked towards the kitchen. "I wanted to dine with you, but you refused, so I had to come over shamelessly."
Chloe wasn't great at cooking. The ingredients here were prepped by the maid. Andrew took out a few items.
Before he could turn around, he felt her arms wrap around him from behind. He was slightly stunned.
Chloe pressed against his back and softly said, "Don't mind me; it's probably the wine."
He couldn't help but laugh. She meant that drinking wine gave her the freedom to do as she pleased and then deny it the next day, right?
But Andrew didn't want to spoil such a good vibe. Chloe didn't either.
From the broken wedding to his illness and then his return, they never had a good chance to be alone. Unexpectedly, it would be in her apartment.
Andrew quietly cooked while she stayed close behind him, occasionally saying a few words in a soft voice.
Andrew only made two or three dishes, but they were nutritious and delicate. He ate a bit, and Chloe drank the wine he brought, her face turning red.
Andrew carried her to the bedroom, and she didn't resist.
It was their first time making love at her place.
Andrew was gentle and restrained.
In the dim light, Chloe touched his lean, handsome face, her eyes soft as she looked at him. As they did it once more, possibly inspired by the wine, she was utterly swept away by their actions. That night, they were intimate.
At dawn, he touched his face, feeling a bit warm, the sunlight streaming into the bedroom as if it would melt him.
He reached out to touch the side, but there was no one.
Andrew turned over, the blanket sliding to his waist, revealing his lean but perfectly toned upper body.
Beside the pillow lay a light pink card with a few lines written on it: [Andrew, I went to shoot! Breakfast is ready and it's takeout. After eating, you should go back to the hospital!]
Andrew read it several times before getting out of bed.
He put on his clothes and fastened his belt.
After washing up, he came out just as the housekeeper arrived. As soon as she walked in, she saw Andrew having breakfast.
She was quite surprised, "Mr. Devereux, what are you doing here? Weren't you in the hospital?"
Her gaze fell on the sofa. There was a spilled bottle of red wine there.
The housekeeper, having seen a lot in her time, quickly understood and blushed.
Thankfully, Andrew had thick skin.
He said casually, "I'll head back to the hospital in a bit! By the way, Chloe's out of town for work, so you don't need to prepare her meals for the next couple of days."
After finishing his meal, he stood up gracefully.
The housekeeper nodded numbly.
Andrew left the apartment under her gaze.
Back at the hospital, Andrew took out his phone and saw 112 missed calls, all from the hospital and Nathan.
He leaned against the headboard.
Adeline also came over, looking at him angrily, "You really don't look after yourself!"
Andrew just looked at Nathan, raising an eyebrow slightly.
Nathan had no intention of speaking up for him.
Adeline, seeing their silent exchange, got even angrier. "You're running around everywhere and making Nathan cover for you!"
Andrew said softly, "I went to Chloe's place and cooked her a meal."
Adeline's attitude immediately changed. She sat on the sofa, finally giving him a smile. "At least you know how to care for Chloe! Where's Chloe? Why didn't she come with you?"
Andrew smiled, "She went to Stellaria City for the shooting!"
Adeline's smile faded. She looked at Andrew for a long time, then pulled Nathan out of the room.
Adeline and Nathan both remained silent. Nathan, with a lot of work waiting at the company, couldn't help but ask, "What exactly do you want to know?"
Adeline blushed slightly and said, "Do you think Andrew's condition will affect his intimacy?"
Nathan immediately understood. He helped Adeline sit down, speaking gently, "You think Chloe went to Stellaria City because she's not satisfied, right?"
Adeline blushed and gave Nathan a light tap.
Nathan smiled mysteriously. "Don't worry! They've had very little time together over the past few years. Last night must have been great. Chloe is a woman, and women can be a bit sentimental and reserved sometimes!"
Hearing this, Adeline felt relieved. But she then put on a stern face. "Nathan, how do you know so much about women?"
Nathan scratched his head, feeling extremely awkward.
In the hospital room, Andrew was resting with his eyes closed.
Just closing his eyes made him think of last night, of Chloe's tenderness.
Over the years, they had been on and off.
They had been intimate many times, so it shouldn't have been new, but last night was different. He felt like he was with a mature woman, and there was no trace of the little girl Chloe used to be.
Andrew really wanted to see her, but he restrained himself.
Chloe was only going to Stellaria City for two or three days, and she would be back when he was discharged.
During those days, they didn't even call each other.
They only exchanged a few Facebook messages, mostly about the kids, and didn't mention that night at all.
On the day Andrew was discharged, Chloe was still in Stellaria City. He sent her a Facebook message to let her know.
When Chloe returned, he was swamped with work and didn't see her right away.
Later, Chloe won an award for a short film abroad and went to Hogland.
She returned in early autumn. It had been almost a month since they last saw each other.
As soon as Chloe landed, an agent invited her to dinner to ask for a favor.
This person had a good relationship with her, so Chloe couldn't refuse. She went to the apartment, took a shower, and drove to the club without even seeing the kids.
The powerful agent asked Chloe to help sign Gabriel, who was managed by Charlotte.
In the private room, Chloe pondered for a moment and smiled, "It's not that I don't want to help, but you might need to talk to Charlotte directly, or even Frederick! Because Gabriel's situation is quite special."
Gabriel had saved Charlotte, and Frederick was very grateful, so much so that he recently enthusiastically took Gabriel in as a godson, while Charlotte adamantly refused to be a godmother.
Chloe thought Charlotte was quite pitiful.
Frederick clearly minded, so he turned his rival into a godson. Everyone in the family knew, but he refused to admit it and made it look very proper. And the Carter Family was very grateful to him.
When the agent asked again, Chloe was vague, and the agent knew Chloe couldn't help.
Chloe was thinking about the kids, so she only took a few bites of food and left.
Walking down the hallway outside the private room, she wondered if she should tell Andrew she was back since they hadn't seen each other since that night.
While hesitating, the door of the opposite private room opened, and Andrew walked out.
Chloe was slightly stunned. Andrew had a faint smell of smoke on him, along with a hint of women's perfume.
Chloe sniffed and looked inside, seeing a large table of people.
The most noticeable was Nina, who was also there.
The seat next to her was empty.
It seemed Andrew had been sitting there.
Chloe looked quietly, then at Andrew, and softly asked, "Did they arrange this for you?"
After saying that, she went to the restroom.
She turned on the faucet and slowly washed her hands, not saying anything. Andrew followed her and stood beside her.
After a long time, he looked at her reddened hands and softly said, "I didn't know they were bringing Nina. But since she showed up, I couldn't just snub her. I didn't even touch her; Nathan can vouch for me."
Chloe lowered her eyes and bit her lip lightly. "He's on your side."
She was clearly not satisfied with his explanation but didn't lose her temper. She restrained herself but didn't know how to resolve it.
Andrew hadn't seen her for a month and missed her a lot. He reached out to touch her hair, but Chloe dodged.
"You smell awful!"
Andrew smiled gently, "Childish!"
He dried his hands and gently pinched her cheek. "Come in and say hello, and we'll go home together."
