Chapter 489 Women Guard Against Me, and Men Too
Gavin felt a pang in his heart seeing her cry like that.
Molly's tears fell on the design drafts, the ones she had created for Sarah.
Countless nights, how much pain did she endure while drawing these? He never considered it. He only knew that he still wanted her. This desire might just be a fleeting impulse of him. Why should she pay for his emotions? They had ended long ago!
Gavin reached out, wanting to wipe her tears. But he lowered his hand and said softly, "Please don't cry, okay?"
Molly turned her back to him and quietly told him to leave.
Gavin stood silently for a while, then bent down to pick up the papers on the floor and placed them on the table. He thought for a moment and said, "I'll cancel Sarah's order for you!"
"No need!" Molly tilted her head slightly. "This is my job! And there won't be a next time."
Gavin hesitated, thinking about Clayton's background. "Are you planning to go abroad?"
"It's none of your business!" Gavin's gaze was inscrutable; now he couldn't figure out how much feeling Molly still had for him.
He was the one who didn't want her, yet he greedily and longingly hoped she still loved him. This thought made him feel ashamed.
After a long time, he finally said hoarsely, "I'm leaving!"
Molly didn't respond; she just stood there with her back to him.
The door opened and closed.
In the silent night, Molly stood alone, her eyes wet.
She didn't know how much strength it took not to walk towards him. Having his warmth was easy, but what was the point of fleeting passion?
The next day, Molly packed the necklace.
She took a cab to the Wise Counsel Law Firm, which was now run by Lola and was very reputable in the industry.
The receptionist was very sweet, "Are you Molly?"
Molly was slightly surprised. How did she recognize her?
The receptionist smiled and said, "Ms. Hawkins posted your photo in the firm's public group this morning. She said you are the cutest girl she has ever met!"
Molly's face turned slightly red.
Although Lola was a woman, her aura was too strong, making Mollya bit embarrassed.
The receptionist picked up the phone and winked, "Come in, Ms. Hawkins is always available."
Molly felt even more embarrassed.
By this time, the receptionist had already contacted Lola's secretary, and they quickly arranged everything. "I'll take you up."
Molly followed her, and everyone they passed looked at her and then smiled knowingly.
The receptionist only escorted her to the 16th floor, where Lola's secretary took over and led her into a spacious and luxurious office: one side was the work area, and the other was the leisure area.
Lola was playing snooker. She was tall, wearing a suit that looked extremely good on her, and high heels didn't affect her performance. One shot, and the ball went in.
The secretary clapped and showered her with compliments, which Lola lapped up. From the corner of her eye, she noticed Molly standing there awkwardly, looking quite endearing.
The secretary went to make coffee.
Lola tilted her head and asked, "Do you know how to play? If not, I can teach you!"
Molly took out the box, "Ms. Hawkins, I'm here to return this to you!"
Lola smiled, bent down, and took another shot. This posture elongated her waist and leg lines. She has a tall and athletic build, making her truly stunning. Molly's face turned a bit red.
Lola looked nonchalant. "I've already accepted Gavin's check! Consider it a gift from him. If you want to return it, you should give it back to Gavin!" After saying that, she blinked lightly.
Molly bit her lip and put the item down, "I'll leave it here!"
She was about to leave when the secretary came in with coffee, blocking her way.
Lola walked over, grabbed Molly's waist, and lifted her onto the pool table, then handed her shoes to Amelia Williams, "Molly's shoes are dirty, take them for cleaning."
Amelia held back her laughter, "Yes, Ms. Hawkins!"
Molly was shocked. She had heard that Lola was not easy to deal with. Last night, even Sarah didn't dare to act rashly. She didn't expect Lola to be such a rogue. Was she even a girl?
Lola, of course, knew what she was thinking. She took a sip of coffee and sighed softly, "I've been quite lonely lately. Just keep me company."
Molly didn't speak, just looked at her.
Lola put the coffee aside. She bent down again, smiling, "Gavin is quite good at this. Hasn't he played with you?"
Molly turned her face away, her voice low, "I'm done with him!"
Besides, that relationship was a scam. He wouldn't spend much time with her or invest in the relationship. It was just a fling.
Lola shook her head, "Gavin is too much!"
She focused on playing a few more shots, then looked at Molly, who was holding her coffee in a daze.
Molly snapped out of it, realizing how close she was to Lola, feeling a bit uneasy. Lola handed her a cup of coffee and smiled helplessly, "Molly, have you ever thought about fighting for it?"
Molly didn't understand.
Lola suddenly stared out the window, lost in thought. After a long time, she whispered, "I think Gavin is struggling. He hasn't completely given up on you; he still cares about you. Molly, have you thought about it? Once he really gets engaged and married to Sarah, there will be no chance for you two."
"I know!" Molly smiled bitterly "We shouldn't have started in the first place!"
Lola turned around. The sunlight from the window shone on her, making her look dazzling. But Molly saw endless loneliness in her, and couldn't help but ask, "What about you? Won't you fight for it?"
Lola lay down on the pool table, resting her head on one arm, and smiled softly, "I'm tired!"
She was 20 that year, and when she excitedly called Johnny to say she was also going to study abroad, he told her, "Lola, we're over!"
They hadn't even started, and he said it was over!
That year, she was young and impetuous. She asked him if he liked someone else.
He was silent and didn't answer her directly!
Later, he sent 200 milliliters of frozen blood from abroad every month, which was Lola's life-saving blood. Her father cursed while storing the blood.
Lola grew up smoothly and never used it.
He didn't completely disappear. He came back twice a year, and when they met, she didn't question him.
When she was 24, he brought back a beautiful girlfriend for New Year's. That woman had dinner at her house, stayed at a hotel that night, and in the middle of the night, while Lola was reading in her bedroom, Johnny came back from the hotel and gave her a New Year's gift. Lola accepted it, but the next day she threw it into the storage room, where it probably gathered dust by now.
The following year, his girlfriend didn't come back with him. It was said they had broken up. Later, it was heard that he had dated other girlfriends, but he never brought them home again.
Lola turned her head and pulled Molly to lie down with her.
Molly wasn't familiar with her. But somehow, she was charmed by her and lay quietly beside her, watching her.
Lola's voice was slightly hoarse, "Chloe and Andrew, with such a messy relationship, still ended up together! Molly, you're even more cowardly than Chloe."
Molly gently shook her head, "It's not what you think."
Lola laughed. Her smile had a mischievous or playful look to it, and she lightly tapped Molly's little nose, "Then what is it? Is Gavin having some issues in the bedroom or what? He doesn't seem to be in bad shape, and his nose is quite straight."
Molly's face turned slightly red, unwilling to talk to her anymore.
Lola quite liked her. She didn't know why, maybe because Gavin liked Molly. She had Gavin's scent on her, yet Sarah didn't!
When Molly left, the necklace was back around her neck, and she felt quite speechless.
After relaxing, Lola started handling business matters.
Amelia was beside her, complaining that two assistant secretaries had resigned from the secretary's office, and they were short-handed.
Lola took a sip of coffee. She said indifferently, "Then hire more people! By the way, hire someone who looks like Molly. It's pleasing to the eye."
Amelia thought Lola was quite perverse.
At this moment, the phone on the desk rang. It was Gavin calling.
Lola answered it lazily, "What's up?"
Gavin's voice was a bit tense, "Did Molly come by?"
Lola put her legs up on the desk and chuckled, "Yeah! We had coffee together and even took a nap!"
On the other end, Gavin's handsome face turned red, "Stop messing with her!"
Lola said, "When did you become so insecure? But let me remind you, your current girlfriend is Sarah. You should be care about her, not Molly."
Gavin hung up the phone with a cold laugh.
Lola tossed the phone aside, shrugged at Amelia, and said, "He can't handle it!"
Amelia laughed.
Lola looked helpless, "My charm is such a hassle! Women guard against me, and men guard against me too!"
Molly was usually quite busy with work. She had five or six design projects in progress, each worth millions of dollars.
That day, she went to the studio and was discussing details with a designer when her assistant came over and whispered, "Mr. Devereux and Miss Hughes are here. They want to try on the wedding dress."
Molly was slightly stunned.
A few days had passed, and she had almost forgotten about it.
After a moment of daze, she said calmly, "Please have them wait in the reception room and make two cups of coffee. I'll be there shortly."
The assistant went to take care of it.
Molly finished giving instructions and then composed herself before walking over.
Actually, there was nothing difficult about it. Sooner or later, this day would come.
When she entered, the assistant had already hung the wedding dress on a hanger.
Sarah and Gavin sat side by side, looking like a newlywed couple. Seeing Molly come in, Sarah smiled, "Molly, you're here! I looked at the dress and think it's really well designed!"
Molly smiled faintly, "I'm glad you like it, Miss Hughes."
Sarah hooked her arm around Gavin's, "Molly, you're being too formal! Gavin said you should call him brother, so you should call me sister-in-law!"
Molly couldn't bring herself to say it. But Sarah looked at her aggressively, with a strong attitude.
Finally, Molly spoke, "That's Gavin's compliment! But people have different statuses, not everyone can match up to him."
"Do you think I can match up to him, Molly?"
"A match made in heaven."
Molly said, her face expressionless, "Can we try on the wedding dress now? If there are any details to be altered, we will complete them within a week and won't delay your wedding."
Sarah stood up and walked over.
Molly's gaze fell on Gavin's face; he hadn't said a word, allowing Sarah to bully her.
At this moment, Sarah touched the luxurious lace fabric and smiled lightly, "But I don't think this wedding dress suits me! This design is more suited for a dreamy little girl. Molly, I feel like this dress was made for you. Were you imagining yourself as Gavin's bride when you designed it?" Not only did she say that, but she also took the wedding dress down and held it up in front of Molly.
Molly's lips trembled with anger, "If you're not satisfied, you can cancel the order!"
Sarah lightly said, "I demand a redo!"
"Enough!" Gavin spoke coldly, "Cancel the order! I'll compensate the studio for all losses."
He walked over, yanked the wedding dress down and threw it into the trash can.
This thing shouldn't exist. How many tears did Molly shed while making this wedding dress?
After throwing it away, he felt a bit better.
Molly was somewhat shocked.
Gavin gave her a deep look, then said to Sarah, "Let's go!"
Sarah suppressed her anger. It wasn't until they were outside that she lost her temper, "Gavin, what do you mean? I just said a few words to her, and you two were flirting in front of me? Get it straight, I'm your future wife."
Gavin lit a cigarette. He took a slow drag and looked at her coldly, "You're nothing! Sarah, if you behaved, we could still cooperate, but just because of a cooperative relationship, you dare to bully her like that? You must be out of your mind to think I care about you." He paused, "We're done!" After saying that, he opened the car door and got in.
Sarah was stunned for a moment, unable to believe it, and immediately went forward to open his car door.
Gavin didn't look at her. He just said softly, "It's my fault; I wronged her! I can't even bear to scold her loudly, who are you to humiliate her like that?" After saying that, he slammed the car door shut, Sarah's fingers got pinched.
About five minutes later, Andrew called, sounding a bit angry, "You bastard, is marriage a game to you? Get back here immediately!"
