Chapter 555 I'm at the Apartment! Are You Coming or Not?

Lola kept her eyes on him.

Sure, she was a grown woman, but when she looked at him like that, the innocence in her eyes made he want to break it.

It was like she was still pure and untouched.

Like a teenage girl, freaked out by her first period, hiding in the schoolyard so no one would see.

A wave of emotions hit him.

Right then, Johnny got why Lola hated him for bailing on their relationship back then. Now he felt the same, hating her for leaving without a word and finding someone else.

Before he could snap out of it, she was up on the desk.

Her proper knee-length skirt, because of the way she was sitting, looked especially provocative, with her stockings brushing against his iron-gray pants.

Johnny looked down at the scene, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly.

She wanted to get down, but a warm hand gently pressed on one of her legs, just above her knee, both of them staring at that spot.

Back in the day, he could strip her bare whenever he wanted and make love to her. But now, he couldn't do that anymore.

Then he released her and leaned back, his large hand making the cigarette look like a matchstick as he lit it and took a deep drag.

Lola got down from the desk, sat back in her seat, and glared at him.

Johnny might have come to stir up trouble today, or maybe just to see her.

Even though they knew, seeing each other would make them both miserable!

He just watched her, slowly finished his cigarette, and then left.

A month later, Johnny officially filed a lawsuit to get custody of Angelina.

Because of this, he was called home by Frederick.

After an hour inside, he came out looking roughed up.

The servant rushed over. "Sir!"

Johnny paused, looked upstairs, and said lightly, "Don't worry; it's not a big deal. It's pretty hot, my dad's temper is up, bring him some water later! Otherwise, my mom will worry when she gets back!"

The servant was stunned. She looked at Johnny, thinking that even injured, he was still handsome under the light.

Did Frederick only dare to hit him when Charlotte wasn't around?

While the servant was still thinking, Johnny had already left. When he got into the car, he sent a message to Lola: [Got the lawsuit papers?]

Johnny did it on purpose, knowing that if he waited a bit longer, he would have a better chance of winning, but he filed the lawsuit now, knowing he would lose.

He said she was seducing him, but wasn't his current behavior giving her a chance?

She thought he was probably waiting for her! But she was a bit anxious.

Angelina's illness made it impossible for her to spend years messing around with Johnny. What if one day he really found someone he loved and wanted to get married, what would she do then?

Johnny waited for a long time, but Lola still didn't reply.

He threw his phone into the glove compartment, started the car, and just drove aimlessly. Half an hour later, he found himself in an old neighborhood he knew well.

Johnny parked the car by the roadside, the $8 million luxury car standing out like a sore thumb.

People passing by couldn't help but glance back.

Johnny lowered the car window, one hand resting as he smoked a cigarette. About 30 minutes later, Travis and Melissa, looking way less polished than before, came from across the street.

Travis probably just got off work, shopping with Melissa, carrying a small green bag, probably filled with cheap stuff.

Back in the day, Melissa used to buy whatever she wanted, often spending tens of thousands of dollars. Now, they might have to save for a month to afford even a few hundred dollars' worth of things.

But why did Travis and Melissa look so content? He chuckled; the two people who were never meant to be together were still together. But he and Lola couldn't be.

Maybe Travis and Melissa had lost everything, and now they only had each other to lean on.

As Johnny started the car to leave, Travis and Melissa happened to pass by and saw him.

Travis's face tightened.

Melissa clutched her clothes, looking at Johnny, wanting to say something but stopping. Her leg was crippled, and Travis had also fallen on hard times. But the man she had once loved passionately was still glamorous and charming.

Melissa felt extremely sad.

Seeing her sadness, Johnny sneered.

He drove away.

Melissa covered her face and cried. She had gotten used to her current life, though poor, Travis treated her well, spending most of his salary on her.

Johnny's appearance shattered everything, even just a glance made her unable to bear it.

All her pretense was torn away. As she sobbed and clutched Travis's sleeve, asking if they could return to their previous life, Travis's expression twisted.

After a long time, he said softly, "If I had been on a business trip that night and you hadn't gone to Johnny's apartment, none of this would have happened! He and I would have been good friends."

Lola was also someone he kept deep in his heart.

When he didn't see her, he could even forget that he missed her.

Melissa was too greedy, she even asked if they could return to their old lavish lifestyle. But how could his mom come back to life?

Johnny was probably coming to disgust him on purpose!

He didn't leave Melissa. But besides work, he also learned to drink heavily, and he would find women. His salary wasn't much, so the women he found weren't high-end, mostly costing a couple of hundred dollars, always coming back with the smell of cheap perfume.

Melissa knew it well, but she had no means of survival, she actually endured it, never arguing with him once.

Travis thought Lola had no feelings for him. So, he became even more excessive; sometimes not coming home for several days in a row.

Johnny returned to the apartment Lola once lived in with his injuries.

Everything was as it was; she hadn't been here.

Johnny, alone, sat in the living room, with only one light on, making it feel lonely. Later, he couldn't stand the loneliness and decided to cook a meal.

Also, with a child now, he wanted to learn how to make kids' meals.

Lately, he hadn't been staying here, so the fridge was nearly empty. He figured he had make a trip to the grocery store.

But he didn't expect to run into Lola there.

In the fresh fruit section where they used to shop together, she was still wearing that professional suit, half-squatting to pick out some fruit. The tight fabric made her body look incredibly enticing. Despite having been pregnant, her shoulders were still thin, and her waist was still slender. The way her legs stretched out really showed off her beautiful calves.

Johnny stood behind her, pushing a cart.

When Lola straightened up, she saw him.

It had been a long time since they last met, apart from his occasional Facebook posts, they had no contact.

Lola stared at his face.

Johnny reached out and lightly touched it, looking quite nonchalant. "Dad did this!"

Lola had guessed; but his words were too ambiguous, so she just nodded slightly, like an ordinary acquaintance, then brushed past him.

Johnny grabbed her arm. He turned his head, his voice quite low. "I don't believe you could forget our days living together and we used to wander around here. Darren can't completely replace me."

Lola lowered her eyes and said gently, "Life has to go on!"

He stared at her, but she gently pulled his hand away. "There are a lot of people here! I don't want to be embarrassed!"

After saying that, she left.

Johnny stood there, feeling empty. After a moment, he turned around, his voice louder than before, "I'm waiting for you at the apartment."

Lola paused for a moment, then walked even faster.

Johnny watched her back, his Adam's apple moving.

He lost interest, bought a few items randomly, and while waiting in line to check out, he saw Darren; Lola was standing next to him. Darren looked at Lola, then smiled and took two boxes of condoms from the shelf.

Johnny stared. Moments later, he began to breathe heavily, pushing his cart quickly to the other side.

He fled, leaving the cart with the selected vegetables and fruits.

Darren watched him leave. He slowly put the two boxes back on the shelf and sighed. "Lola, you don't have to do this!"

Lola lowered her head.

She felt bad too. She wanted to get close to Johnny, but she didn't want to get entangled with him.

Darren paid the bill, and when they got to the parking lot, he said softly, "If you regret it now, it's still okay!"

Lola got into the car and shook her head.

Darren leaned back in his seat, taking out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He rarely smoked. But at this moment, he couldn't help but want one.

Just as he lit it, Lola put it out. Darren looked at her, and after a long time, he took out an invitation from the glove compartment and gently placed it in Lola's hand. "Then don't delay any longer!"

Lola looked at the invitation, somewhat lost in thought.

Three years had passed, and she had long forgotten what it felt like to be with Johnny.

Now they probably hated each other, but because of Angelina, she had to get in touch with him.

Lola felt a bit embarrassed. She put the invitation back and said softly, "Let's go home!"

Darren didn't say anything more.

When they got back to the villa, it was already 7 PM, and Angelina had already eaten.

Darren put the groceries away, had dinner with Lola, and then told a story to Angelina, who had already taken a bath.

Bobby was curled up next to Angelina's pillow.

With its head resting, one eye open, it seemed to be listening to the story too.

Darren thought Bobby was as cunning as Johnny.

Angelina listened intently, holding the puppy in her arms, as if she was about to fall asleep.

Darren covered her with a blanket.

Angelina suddenly opened her eyes and asked softly, "Where is that person? Why isn't he here?"

Darren was stunned, then realized she was talking about Johnny.

After all, she was Johnny's child, thinking about him was normal.

Darren gently stroked her golden curls and said softly, "He's busy with work! Isn't it good that I'm here with you?"

Angelina liked Darren. Her little hand hugged his neck, softly saying, "I like you more!"

Darren smiled but felt a bit sad.

He kissed Angelina's forehead. "I know; now you can sleep!"

After putting Angelina to bed, the puppy automatically lay down by the pillow, looking at Angelina, clearly liking her too.

Darren patted his fur. When he got up to leave, he saw Lola standing by the door, probably for a while.

Darren asked, "Did you hear that?"

Lola nodded slightly, walked over to the bed, and gently touched Angelina's face.

Actually, she looked a lot like Johnny.

Darren lowered his voice. "If there was another child, Angelina wouldn't be so lonely!"

Lola didn't say anything.

A week later, at a certain socialite's 60th birthday party in Syeattel, many notable figures attended.

Charlotte wasn't feeling well, so Frederick accompanied her, leaving Kingsley to attend. And Lola went with Darren.

Although she had left Syeattel for three years, the rumors about her remained. Unexpectedly, she returned with Darren, and they seemed to have a good relationship.

Unexpectedly, Travis and Melissa also came.

They probably wore their best clothes, but Melissa still seemed uneasy. She went on stage to play a piano piece.

Others applauded, but inwardly looked down on her.

The snobbery in the circle wasn't new, after Melissa finished playing, tears welled up in her eyes, she instinctively looked at her husband.

Travis was happily chatting with a wealthy single woman.

She wanted to find Johnny, but he wasn't there. He had been in the hall, but after Lola and Darren left, he followed them.

Tonight, Lola looked stunning in a champagne-colored, strapless diamond dress. She rarely attended parties, so he had only seen her in a gown a few times. But tonight, she was simply breathtaking. Perhaps because she had given birth, her figure was noticeably fuller, adding to her allure.

When she walked, almost all the men were watching her, unable to look away.

After the last time, Johnny hated her for being with Darren. But now that they left together, he couldn't help but follow.

Finally, he saw Lola in the small garden of the villa.
