Chapter 230 Charlotte, I Miss You So Much

Charlotte wasn't in the mood to chat.

She knew exactly what he wanted to yak about—getting back together.

After all the drama, they'd been divorced for three years.

She didn't despise him anymore, but the love was long gone.

But for Lola's sake, she wanted to keep things chill.

She muttered, "I wanna see her first!"

In the dim light, his tight grip loosened a bit, and he whispered, "Go ahead! Just don't wake her."

Charlotte nodded softly, walked around him, and headed upstairs.

Once she was out of sight, Frederick looked at his palm, still warm from Charlotte's touch, a warmth he craved.

At the kid's bedroom door, Charlotte's fingers hovered over the doorknob. She hesitated, then gently pushed it open.

Lola was indeed asleep.

In the light pink room, a bedside lamp cast a soft glow. Lola was curled up, her little mouth slightly open, breathing sweetly.

Charlotte felt a mix of bitterness and tenderness.

She sat by the bed, her delicate fingers gently stroking the little girl.

She couldn't get enough of it!

Three years, she had missed three years of this kid's life, especially the two years Lola spent in the lab, during which she, as a mom, was MIA.

Guilt consumed her.

Even though she knew Frederick had done it for her own good back then, she still resented him.

Tears slid down Charlotte's cheeks, but she didn't wipe them away. She leaned down and kissed her Lola.

Lola looked like her.

But her temperament was all Frederick.

Charlotte couldn't help but lie down and hug Lola. Smelling the faint milky scent on her, she felt her heart slowly calm, as if all the pain was being soothed at that moment.

Frederick stood at the doorway, quietly watching them.

He knew he should give Charlotte time to adjust, but he couldn't hold back.

He desperately wanted to be close to her.

It wasn't just about desire; he wanted to have her. After three years, he wanted to know if she still wanted him!

Frederick turned off the light.

The room instantly went dark, and Charlotte was startled.

Then, the soft mattress beside her sank deeply. Frederick propped himself above her, and in the dim light, neither could see the other clearly.

Charlotte lowered her voice. "Frederick, you're nuts!"

He gazed at her.

Then, under her gaze, he lowered his head and kissed her. Charlotte, caught off guard, felt his tongue gently teasing her.

It had been a long time since they had sex.

Frederick was noticeably rusty. He relied on memory to arouse her and make her comfortable.

Charlotte pushed him away.

But Lola was sleeping right next to them. Too much movement would wake her, and she didn't want Lola to see this. As she hesitated, Frederick cupped her face and began to kiss her deeply.

Charlotte couldn't escape and, in her panic, bit him.

Frederick pulled back.

In the darkness, his eyes locked onto hers, and he said hoarsely, "Charlotte, you responded just now! You still have feelings for my body!"

Charlotte's breath became erratic.

Their current state was quite embarrassing, and even her every breath was pressed against his body. She felt both ashamed and angry. "Mr. Hawkins, didn't you say we were gonna talk in the study?"

He pressed his body down.

His face rested beside her neck, and he remained silent for a long time.

Finally, he spoke, "Charlotte, I miss you so much! I admit I want you. I wanna sleep with you. What guy wouldn't want to be close to the woman he likes after being apart for years?"

Charlotte's head cleared up a bit. She kicked him, "Get off! We're divorced, remember?"

She thought he'd stick around stubbornly, but to her surprise, he gently moved away without pushing it.

After all, he almost lost control.

Charlotte went to the bathroom to pull herself together before heading to the study to talk with him.

There was a ton they needed to hash out.

Lola's past, present, and future.

As parents, even if divorced, they had to figure this stuff out.

Clearly, Frederick was also ready for a long chat.

Charlotte pushed the door open and walked in. He was making coffee, and when he heard her footsteps, he casually said, "I'm making you some coffee!"

Charlotte nodded and sat lightly on the sofa.

She watched his back.

This was the first time she had really looked at Frederick closely since their reunion. He was still as handsome as ever, but his demeanor had become much more reserved, except when he was being shameless, which was just like before.

Frederick placed the coffee in front of her. He then took a thick document from the bookshelf and handed it to her. Charlotte had already been warned by Andrew, but her fingers still trembled uncontrollably as she took the document.

The night dragged on.

Charlotte flipped through it page by page, and he stayed by her side.

As dawn broke, Charlotte closed the document, her face showing exhaustion.

Frederick's handsome face was lost in memories. He whispered, "Back then, your health was poor, and I was afraid you wouldn't make it! Later, Lola got better, but the first two years were really rough! It wasn't until this year that Lola became stable. Although she has some minor issues, she will grow up well!"

Charlotte gently put down the document. She looked at him and murmured, "What minor issues are you talking about?"

Frederick spoke with difficulty, "Autism, clotting disorders, and she's a rare blood type!"

As he spoke, he seemed dazed.

Charlotte was even more dazed as she listened.

Her pale fingers dug into her flesh. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, and her heart ached terribly.

Frederick walked behind her. He gently hugged her, resting his chin on her thin shoulder. "Charlotte, let's start over! This time, I'll be a good husband and a good father. I won't let you down again!"

He knew she wouldn't agree easily.

But he couldn't help but say it. Nights like this were perfect for rekindling old flames.

Charlotte refused without a second thought. She restrained herself and said calmly, "Mr. Hawkins, it's impossible for us! I won't fight you for custody because Lola was raised by you. I can't hurt her feelings, so the best way is for us to co-parent! We can arrange the time, and I'm fine with whatever you decide."

Frederick's heart turned cold.

Charlotte had even thought about the time arrangements. She didn't throw a tantrum or slap him.

He would have preferred if she had slapped him!

In such an atmosphere, he couldn't push any further and had to take a step back. "We'll talk about it later! For now, let's spend time with Lola! By the way, Lola has monthly check-ups for her autism. Let's go together next time!"

Charlotte didn't refuse. She was Lola's mother. The moment she stepped into this villa last night, she knew she would have less freedom.

But she didn't regret it.

Charlotte also had her own motives. She tentatively said, "Mr. Hawkins, I'm not planning to remarry. If you plan to marry someone else, why not let me take care of her? I promise not to leave the country, and you can see her anytime you want!"
