Chapter 620 This Time Let's Take It Slow!
Amara's eyes were a bit misty as she watched, recalling the bittersweet memories tied to that diamond ring. She couldn't figure out why Kingsley had brought it out.
Kingsley knew what was on her mind.
He gently took her hand. He was tall, with big hands that completely covered hers. He held it for a moment before whispering in her ear, "I had it custom-made."
It was one of a kind, and the letters on it said just that.
Between him and Amara, he was always the one chasing her.
Kingsley's voice shook a little. "Put it on for me. This time, let's take it slow."
As he spoke, he took her slender finger and slowly slid the ring onto her middle finger. It was originally sized for her ring finger, but Amara had lost weight, so the middle finger fit better.
After putting it on, he kissed it lightly, then pulled her into his arms.
It had been five years, and only they knew the emotions of this moment.
Amara whispered, "You said to take it slow, but clearly..."
Kingsley chuckled softly.
He gently stroked her back and asked, "You don't want to? Last night, you were so mad but didn't say no."
Amara went back to the previous topic. "Kingsley, do you really want to start over with me?"
Kingsley just held her tighter.
Amara suddenly felt like crying. Her face pressed against his chest, and her voice was hoarse. "The deal is, you have to respect me and treat me as an equal! Kingsley, being taken care of by you is nice, but I also really like who I am now."
Despite their differences and long separation, it was his persistence that reunited them; she would never have made the first move, even if he were single.
After she said this, Kingsley was moved too.
He nodded and still held her tight. Amara pushed him twice but couldn't break free.
Just then, a servant knocked on the door. "Mr. Hawkins, there's a delivery for Ms. Butler."
Kingsley looked down at Amara.
She nudged his shoulder. "I ordered it."
This time, he let her go. Amara walked to the door and opened it. The servant smiled. "I've already signed for it on behalf of Ms. Butler."
Amara thanked him, took the box, and gently closed the door.
"What did you buy?" Kingsley took the box, sat on the sofa, and used a utility knife to open it. Inside, a royal blue box revealed an opal tie pin. It wasn't the most expensive but still cost a few thousand dollars.
He took it out, stood in front of the mirror, and pinned it to his tie and shirt collar.
After checking it out for a bit, he said softly, "I really like it!"
He knew Amara was usually super frugal. Her closet was never overflowing, yet she bought him a tie pin worth a few thousand bucks. Suddenly, Kingsley got what Amara was trying to say! Then he just hugged her for a long time.
At six in the evening, Kingsley drove a Rolls-Royce Phantom and took Amara to the Hawkins Mansion.
Even though it was Kingsley's birthday, with Jesse around, Frederick didn't rush Kingsley at all. When Kingsley got home, Frederick just snorted lightly, "Finally decided to come home? Almost forgot it was your birthday, didn't you?"
Kingsley closed the car door. "Dad, you know me so well!"
Frederick touched his nose.
Right then, the Hawkins Mansion was buzzing. Even though it was mid-winter, a panoramic glass house had been set up in the courtyard for the party. Half of Syeattel's elite had come to mingle. Of course, many were there just for the excitement. Hannah and her family had also arrived. With Kingsley suddenly having a new son and Amara winning his favor, everyone was curious to see how she had managed it.
Kingsley opened the car door.
Amara tilted her head slightly, looking at him, knowing that once she stepped out of the car, their identities would be different.
"Get out! My dad has been waiting for a while!" Kingsley's tone was super gentle, and everyone present felt a tingle in their ears.
Hannah was also there, biting her lip.
Kingsley had never spoken to her like that.
Hannah looked like she was about to cry. Next to her, Caitlyn, dressed seductively and holding a wine glass, lazily said, "This is just the beginning, and you can't handle it? Back then, Kingsley was head over heels for Amara."
Hannah didn't believe it and couldn't imagine that someone as indifferent as Kingsley could have such intense feelings.
Caitlyn restrained her expression. "Kingsley gave all his feelings to Amara. Otherwise, with his pride, how could they have gotten back together?"
Hannah was still unwilling to accept it. "It must be because of the child."
Caitlyn laughed at her. "The child? The Hawkins Family wouldn't accept Amara just for a child. That child is precious because Amara gave birth to him. Otherwise, he would just be treated as an illegitimate child, with plenty of money but absolutely no chance of wielding any power."
Hannah's eyes were misty, but she held back, gazing at Kingsley with a love he couldn't see.
Over there, Amara stepped out of the car.
As the mother of the Hawkins Family's eldest grandson, she naturally drew a lot of attention. Those who didn't know the details were just envious, but many of the Hawkins Group's executives were quite surprised.
Rebecca was also there, dressed in a simple and professional outfit, standing next to Charlotte, looking a bit excited.
The Hawkins Family didn't introduce Amara publicly.
Frederick just took her around to greet a few close uncles, including important shareholders of the Hawkins Group. Then Charlotte came over with Jesse and smoothly took Amara to socialize with the ladies.
In the past three years, Amara had gained a lot of experience and wasn't intimidated by such occasions.
Moreover, with Charlotte around, no one dared to say much, and Amara felt at ease. Everyone in Syeattel's high society knew that Charlotte was not someone to mess with. She usually wouldn't complain to Frederick; she would personally make life miserable for anyone who crossed her.
Occasionally, Amara would look up and see Kingsley glancing at her. Most of the time, he was socializing. Around nine o'clock, people from the Ascend Global Group arrived with Landon.
Amara was about to go over and say hello, but Hannah blocked her way and said, "Can we talk?"
Hannah was wearing a light pink dress, looking very girlish with her fair skin.
Amara looked at her, thinking that Kingsley actually had good taste. He said he settled for marrying a woman, but Hannah was clearly his type.
At this moment, Hannah was clearly drunk.
She looked at Amara with obvious jealousy and said bluntly, "The first time I saw you, I thought you were really elegant and beautiful. I even praised you in front of Kingsley, but I never thought you would take him from me. I hate you!" Hannah's eyes were slightly wet as she spoke.
Some of the ladies around were already eavesdropping. Hannah was about to argue with the future daughter-in-law of the Hawkins Family; this was too good to miss.
Amara's situation was not ideal. Although she and Kingsley had a child and she was someone Kingsley liked, he had dated Hannah for a while.
Amara had no idea what to do with Hannah, especially since Hannah had been drinking.
Hannah grabbed her hand, choking up. "Amara, I beg you, please give Kingsley back to me, okay? I really can't live without him; I love him!"
Despite her eloquence, Amara was at a loss for words in the awkward moment.
From a distance, Caitlyn heard this. She smiled and walked over to Charlotte, picking up Jesse. "Do you still remember me?"
Jesse had seen her before; he warmly nodded and said, "Give me a hug!"
Caitlyn's nose tingled. Just like Amara, he knew how to win people over!
Caitlyn greeted Charlotte and then carried Jesse over to the ladies. She handed Jesse to Amara, sounding quite impatient. "What are you doing, forgetting your son? Jesse's been looking for you for a while! No matter how charming or capable a man is, he's not as close as your son!"
Amara was momentarily stunned.
Then Jesse was placed in her arms. Having not seen her for a while, he clung to her softly. "Mommy."
Hannah's grievances and confessions seemed insignificant in the face of an innocent and adorable child.
People were already whispering, "Amara even had a child with Kingsley. Besides, Hannah and Kingsley only dated for a few months; marriage isn't something you can force."
What they were saying wasn't pleasant to hear.
Amara felt the need to wrap things up, but Caitlyn was busy admiring her nails and didn't care. After all, Hannah had brought this upon herself. Everyone knew Kingsley only loved Amara, yet Hannah still tried to get close to him.
The commotion must have been too much.
Kingsley came over, seeing Jesse clinging to Amara's neck, and asked softly, "What's wrong with him?"
Amara replied softly, "He might be tired and wants to sleep."
Kingsley reached out and took Jesse. "I'll take him to my room to sleep."
Amara hesitated about whether to follow, but Kingsley had already taken her hand, leading her along. Hannah watched their warm moment, tears welling up in her eyes.
Caitlyn handed her a handkerchief. "It's just a man! Is it worth it?"
Hannah turned away and started crying.
Over there, Kingsley carried Jesse to the hall, then let go of Amara. As he slowly walked upstairs, he asked, "Did Hannah give you a hard time?"
Amara shook her head. "Not really; she's just drunk."
It had been awkward. But Amara could understand Hannah. Just like herself back then, she had abandoned all her pride just to win Kingsley back. She didn't think she had won over Hannah.
Amara could see that Hannah had a bit of her old self in her.
Moreover, Hannah had a better family background and was more innocent than Amara.
These were things Kingsley might not have even noticed.
Kingsley bent down and placed Jesse on the big bed. Amara hugged him from behind.
