Chapter 319 You Were Way Out of My League (Part 1)

Two months later, she bumped into Andrew again.

In the meantime, Charlotte and Frederick were getting along way better. Since she really liked Chloe, she invited Chloe and Lily to join her for a play.

Chloe was barely keeping her eyes open. If it wasn't for Laura wanting an autograph, she would've bailed ages ago. She just didn't get what the big deal was.

After the show, Grace strutted off the stage. Backstage, she flipped a switch. While yanking off her earrings, she told her assistant, "No fans today. Tell 'em to come back another time!"

Grace was kinda stuck-up; regular fans hardly ever got to see her. Plus, Andrew was supposed to show up today. The assistant looked a bit uneasy.

She whispered, "Most fans, sure, but there's one you might wanna see."

Grace raised an eyebrow. "Who do I have to see?"

"It's Miss Hawkins! Her mom wants an autograph, but she's sick and couldn't make it."

Grace paused, then flashed a big smile. "Oh, Miss Hawkins! I gotta see her. Laura's always been a big fan. Bring her backstage; I'll sign for her."

She headed inside. A smooth male voice drifted out.

Chloe and her crew, led by the assistant, made their way backstage.

Grace was a big deal. The hallway was packed with flowers, easily over a hundred bouquets. Andrew had sent the most, 32 in total.

'Andrew?' Chloe's heart skipped a beat. Was it the Andrew she was thinking of?

The assistant noticed her staring and grinned. "Mr. Devereux is an old buddy of Grace's. Whenever he's in Syeattel, he always shows up to support her. I've heard Mr. Devereux is pretty high up, and only Grace can pull that off."

Chloe stayed quiet, suddenly wanting to bolt. But they were already at the dressing room door. The assistant smiled and opened it. "Miss Hawkins is here."

The door swung open, and Chloe was floored. Inside, Grace had changed into a tight outfit. She was cozying up to a guy. The dude, in a white shirt and black pants, looked sharp and handsome. He was gently playing with Grace's hair. Their vibe was unmistakable!

Chloe stood there, stunned. Andrew had kissed her. But this Andrew, she'd never seen before. Turns out he liked women like Grace, mature and glamorous. They looked perfect together.

Andrew was just as shocked. Even with Charlotte there, he called out, "Chloe!"

Chloe didn't answer. Her lips quivered, refusing to respond. Charlotte looked curiously at Andrew, then at Chloe. She didn't think they knew each other well, but the way Andrew said Chloe's name...

Just as things got awkward, Nathan showed up. Seeing the scene, Nathan was also taken aback! But being close to Andrew, he was good at breaking the ice. He turned to Charlotte. "So you're here too! Mr. Devereux was just talking about you and wanted to see you!"

Charlotte, not wanting to make it weird, politely greeted Andrew. Lily sensed the tension and smiled. "What a coincidence!"

Grace, still smiling, said, "So these are Mr. Devereux's younger relatives. How about I treat everyone to dinner at the restaurant across the street? The food there is pretty good!"

As she spoke, she opened her fan, releasing a fragrant breeze. Just as she finished, Chloe spoke up, "I have a bit of a headache, so I won't be going!"

The vibe was tense. Nathan quickly said, "I'll go grab some medicine for Chloe!"

His attentiveness caught Grace's eye, and she pouted, "Nathan, I get headaches all the time, but I've never seen you care this much!"

Though she was talking to Nathan, it was clear she was throwing shade at Andrew.

Andrew smirked. "You have lots of people around caring about you."

Grace clung to his arm, whispering sweetly, "If I were sick, I'd feel better the second you showed up."

Chloe's face was a mess. Nathan tried to smooth things over, and eventually, they all headed to a restaurant and got a private room.

Grace, eyeing a spot in the Devereux family, was all over Charlotte. But Charlotte? She couldn't care less.

Grace snuggled up to Andrew, her eyes dripping with affection. She never suspected anything, thinking Chloe was just a kid.

Chloe couldn't take it anymore. She excused herself to the restroom, turned on the faucet, and splashed her face with water. Tears started flowing. Two months ago, Andrew had ghosted her. She felt a bit down but knew she had no right to be mad. But seeing today's scene? It was a punch to the gut.

Why should she put up with this crap? She hated Andrew more than ever.

The restroom door creaked open and then clicked shut. She was still crying, her nose all red. It took her a second to realize Andrew had come in and locked the door. She stared at him in the mirror, tears streaming down.

Andrew's voice was soft and caring. "Are you mad?"

Chloe glared at him. She couldn't shake the image of him with Grace, the flirty look in his eyes. He hadn't crossed any lines, but it was clear he was enjoying Grace's company.

She turned around, her eyes red. "I have nothing to do with you, so why would I be mad? Besides, someone like me would never be your type. Go find someone more mature!"

Andrew, not planning to chase her, still wanted to comfort Chloe. Plus, he didn't want her knowing too much about his private life. So, he smiled. "She and I are just friends."

Chloe knew he was just trying to smooth things over because of their family ties and didn't want things to get too awkward. She calmed down a bit and lowered her eyes. "You go out first! I need to wash my face."

Andrew felt bad too. He had already decided not to get involved with her. But he still ran into her. He patted her head. "Be good; freshen up and come out to eat."

He left quietly without alerting anyone. Chloe composed herself and joined them, but she was in a bad mood and had little appetite. Charlotte noticed her unusual behavior clearly. She looked at Chloe, then at Andrew, deep in thought.

After the meal, they said their goodbyes. Andrew stayed with Grace, looking like a couple. Chloe got into her car. She gripped the steering wheel, her head slowly lowering. Since breaking up with Ethan, she hadn't thought she would suffer for another man.

She could feel that Andrew had some feelings for her. But he treated her like a kid, preferring to be with women like Grace. Was it because those women were gentle and understood him?

At that moment, the door of the Audi in front opened, and Nathan got in and drove off alone. Chloe's heart raced. She guessed that Andrew had other plans, perhaps at that upscale club. Would he take Grace there too? Would he hold Grace in the restroom and kiss her, even have sex?

She thought that maybe if she saw it, she wouldn't feel so much pain. An hour later, she stopped her car. The club staff recognized her, knowing she had been brought there by Andrew before. Seeing her limited edition sports car, they let her in without question.

A waiter opened the door for her, smiling. "Mr. Devereux just arrived!"

The door opened. Andrew was indeed there, playing with a group of people. He still looked refined and handsome. His white shirt sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, his fair face tinged with a light red, and a cigarette was held between his lips. Grace leaned against him, her soft chest pressed against his arm, seemingly advising him on his cards, her eyes full of tenderness.

Chloe didn't want to look anymore. She turned to leave, but someone in the room recognized her. It was Gregory. "Isn't this Chloe from the Hawkins family? Are you here to see Andrew?"

Andrew paused with his cards. He slowly put them down and looked towards the door.
