Chapter 691 Landon, Let Go of Me
Landon always lived life on his own terms, never tied down by anything. But right now, he was getting roasted by Eden and couldn't even come up with a comeback.
He addressed her sincerely, "Mrs. Robinson," with a respectful tone that made Eden feel a bit emotional. She never liked Landon, but Caitlyn must have been really into him back then. Now, here he was, apologizing after losing his wife. But where was he when it really mattered?
Meanwhile, Caitlyn took Katelyn back to the room.
Outside, Eden calmed down and poured Landon a glass of water.
Landon slightly bowed and took it with both hands. This almost ingratiating gesture made Eden sneer again, "Mr. Carter, there's no need for this. It's unsettling."
Hearing this, Landon was speechless.
Under the light, Eden's expression looked even more unpleasant. She straightforwardly said, "I can see you still have feelings for Caitlyn, but Mr. Carter, it's over between you two! Caitlyn foolishly stayed by your side for three years. Although you weren't stingy with her materially, our Robinson family wasn't lacking in money either. Now, your worth is even more impressive. I'm sure there are plenty of young girls eager to be with you... Why bother Caitlyn again? She finally has a boyfriend she likes."
Eden's demeanor was calm. She continued, "I won't comment on the rights and wrongs of your past. As a mother, I'm begging you now: Let her go!"
These words pierced Landon's heart like a thorn, but the pain wasn't for himself—it was for Caitlyn. He thought that she must have had such a tough time these past years!
What could Landon say? He couldn't tell Eden that the son-in-law she finally approved of was currently flirting with the hospital director's daughter and might not choose Caitlyn in the end.
After much deliberation, Landon said only one thing to Eden, "I'll let her go! But if she wants to come back to me, I'll always be waiting for her."
In this lifetime, he didn't want to marry anyone else but Caitlyn. He had married someone else and let her down. For the rest of his life, he didn't want her to feel scared and alone again.
Yet Eden didn't believe his words at all. She had heard a bit about his romantic escapades, but what angered her the most was that Caitlyn loved the wrong person.
With that, Landon was ready to leave.
It was inappropriate to go to Caitlyn's room again, and Eden wouldn't allow it. So Katelyn was brought out by Caitlyn.
Katelyn was awake but listless, lying on Landon's shoulder, looking a bit pitiful.
Landon softly said, "Daddy will take you home now!"
Katelyn looked at Caitlyn like a little kitten, without making a sound. Her small face with blue eyes showed a bit of sadness.
Caitlyn steeled herself, walked to the door, and opened it.
As Landon passed by her, she softly said, "Don't come again!"
Landon looked at her, unable to move. Katelyn's lips moved, but in the end, she didn't say a word, just burying her face in Landon's shoulder, still staring at Caitlyn.
"Go!" Caitlyn's voice was slightly urgent. She turned her face away, not looking at Katelyn.
As Landon left, Katelyn kept looking at Caitlyn. Until they vanished into the dark hallway, Caitlyn suddenly felt dizzy, her heart aching a bit.
She clutched her chest, wondering why she felt sorry for Katelyn. She should be heartless towards her!
Eden closed the door and said to Caitlyn, "They're gone! Don't have any more contact with them. No matter how many sweet words Landon says or how many things he does to please you, you mustn't agree to be with him."
Caitlyn replied, "Mom, I know!"
Eden sighed in relief, "As long as you know! I'm worried you might not see things clearly! Leonard is an excellent person. Only if you live a stable life with him will I be at ease."
After hearing this, Caitlyn felt a bit dazed. She knew Landon wasn't her ideal partner, but she wasn't sure if Leonard was reliable either. She had only met his parents once and felt that she couldn't get along well with them. Who knew what the future held!
She returned to her room. It was already midnight, but she couldn't sleep. She pulled back the curtain a bit.
The raindrops in the dark night were like fine needles, piercing her skin painfully.
She saw a black Rolls-Royce with its door open. The driver got out and opened the back door. Landon got in with Katelyn. Probably because he didn't have an umbrella, Landon's shoulders and back were wet, but he protected Katelyn well.
Suddenly, Katelyn looked up, and Caitlyn panicked. She quickly closed the curtain, not wanting to give Katelyn any false hope, because she could never be her stepmother.
Later, she secretly peeked out again. Sure enough, Katelyn was lying on Landon's shoulder, looking dejected. Caitlyn told herself not to soften!
Downstairs, Landon settled Katelyn and looked up at the building before getting into the car. His eyes lingered for a while, and then he got into the car.
The black car left Seattle that night, taking Katelyn with him on his business trip.
The next time Caitlyn saw Landon was a week later. It wasn't intentional, just a coincidence.
That night, there was a concert at the Seattle Music Hall by a famous pianist. Leonard, who loved such events, had booked tickets early and invited Caitlyn. But he had a minor surgery to perform, so he asked Caitlyn to wait for him at the hospital.
Leonard then hung up the phone.
However, Clio knocked on the office door and smiled. She said, "Mr. Dobbins, are you going to take your girlfriend to a concert? What a coincidence, I like that musician too!"
Since the last incident, Leonard felt uneasy around her. So he just smiled and changed the subject, saying, "I'm going to change into my surgical gown."
Clio smiled and said, "I'll assist you! I've transferred departments. We'll be working together from now on, so please take care of me."
Her subtle advances made Leonard feel troubled. He genuinely liked Caitlyn, but Clio was the daughter of the hospital director, Aubrey, and he couldn't afford to offend her. So he played dumb, hoping she'd lose interest and transfer back to her original department.
Thinking this, Leonard felt a bit relieved.
As they walked out of the office together, Clio suddenly said, "Mr. Dobbins, you have a great physique."
Hearing this, Leonard really couldn't handle it. At that moment, Caitlyn arrived. Seeing her, Leonard felt a mixture of relief and tension. He had asked her to come and wait, but the timing now seemed off. He wanted to speak, but his lips were dry.
After a while, he finally said in a dry voice, "Wait for me for 40 minutes."
Caitlyn glanced at Clio, then smiled faintly at Leonard. She said, "Alright!"
Leonard took Caitlyn to his office and even poured her a cup of coffee, taking good care of her. Just as he was about to leave, Clio stood at the door and smiled faintly. "Mr. Dobbins, you treat your girlfriend differently! You were so reserved when having dinner with my parents last time, not at all like you are now."
Leonard was completely stunned. He hadn't expected Clio to bring that up, and he felt truly embarrassed and uncomfortable.
Caitlyn was also surprised.
Clio's smile deepened, and she said kindly, "Ms. Robinson, don't misunderstand. It was my birthday, and I tricked Mr. Dobbins into going. Mr. Dobbins has no inappropriate intentions towards me."
Caitlyn wasn't a fool; she could understand the implications of those words. Clio was pursuing Leonard, and Leonard knew it but still went to meet her parents for dinner.
It was impossible not to feel a bit sad knowing the truth. After all, Leonard was someone Caitlyn had decided to date seriously, and she had even met his parents. It was quite ridiculous that he had also met someone else's parents at the same time.
Caitlyn thought for a moment, then took out the two concert tickets from her bag and lightly placed them on the desk.
She said softly, "Leonard, let's end this."
She was never one to wrong herself, and she treated Leonard the same way she treated Landon. Caitlyn wanted to leave, but Leonard grabbed her hand.
"Let go!" Caitlyn looked up at Leonard and said firmly, "Let's end this here!"
Leonard's grip on her wrist loosened but then tightened again. He looked down at her, his voice hoarse. He said, "Can we talk after my surgery? Please don't leave!"
However, Caitlyn still shook him off and walked toward the door. Leonard wanted to follow, but Clio softly said, "Mr. Dobbins, the surgery is about to start. The patient should be ready for anesthesia by now."
Leonard turned and glared at her, his eyes a bit red. Clio's heart trembled. She had never seen Leonard like this. Could he really love Caitlyn so much that he would go against Clio?
It was impossible! Clio had known Leonard for years and knew what kind of person he was. He never loved beauty more than his career!
Clio smiled and said, "Should I apologize to you? Or should I explain again?"
Leonard suppressed his anger and said coldly, "No need!"
Watching him walk towards the changing room, Clio shrugged lightly, not caring about his emotions at all.
Caitlyn walked down the stairs from the doctor's office.
She didn't take the elevator but used the stairs. Coincidentally, the lower floors were VIP wards. Landon was leaning against the stairwell, smoking, filling the half-floor with a thin layer of smoke.
Through the gray haze, Caitlyn looked at him.
He was dressed in business attire, but Caitlyn knew he had a refined exterior but a wild side. She didn't want to interact with him and turned to leave.
But Landon moved quickly, grabbing her hand and, despite her struggles, pressed her against the door, locking it behind them.
"Landon, what are you doing?" Caitlyn struggled for a long time but couldn't break free.
Instead, their bodies' friction made Landon a bit disheveled. He bent one long leg to pin her down, his voice trembling with lust. "Stop moving!"
Caitlyn was slightly stunned, then she cursed him, calling him a beast who was always in heat.
Landon held her with one hand, smoking with the other, his chin tilted and eyes slightly narrowed. He was already handsome, and in that moment, quite attractive.
Seeing Caitlyn frozen in place, Landon chuckled softly. "Why did you stop? Move!" he teased.
She angrily kicked him. Landon, maintaining his composure, gently held her leg before reluctantly letting go. He stepped back but didn't let her leave.
He looked at her red eyes and asked, "Did you fight with Leonard? Over another woman?"
Caitlyn asked, "You knew all along?"
Landon didn't deny it. He said, "Hazel told me. She probably saw it, which is why she sent Katelyn to you... Think about it, she wouldn't trouble herself by sending Katelyn to you."
Caitlyn didn't respond, because it was too humiliating.
She had told Landon many times that she wanted to get along well with Leonard and live a good life, but the reality was disappointing. Even if Leonard wasn't officially involved with that woman, he had different feelings for Clio and allowed her to get close to him.
Caitlyn's face turned pale at the thought.
Landon asked again, "Did you break up completely?"
Caitlyn's lips trembled. She had initiated the breakup, but she knew Leonard would try to win her back. He probably hadn't decided to accept that other woman's advances yet. She figured that for Leonard to be so indecisive, the other woman's family background must be much better than hers, at least better than her current situation.
Noticing her silence, Landon sneered.
He said, "Caitlyn, when did you learn to compromise? In the past, whenever you saw me with other women, you would scratch me until I bled. Why can't you bring yourself to do the same with Leonard?"
Caitlyn didn't feel reluctant. Landon didn't realize that, after all these years, she was no longer the same Caitlyn.
In the past, with the Robinson family backing her, no matter how outrageous her actions were, her parents would clean up the mess. Now, it was different. She lived cautiously. Or maybe, she no longer had such intense emotions.
She wanted to be with Leonard, but in the face of his infidelity, she couldn't muster much anger. She was surprisingly calm, so calm that she realized she didn't truly love Leonard; he was just a suitable marriage partner.
Or perhaps, as long as it wasn't Landon, anyone who was suitable would do!
Thinking of this, Caitlyn lowered her eyes. "This has nothing to do with you! Let me go. We're not that close anymore!"
Hearing this, Landon stared at her. After a moment, before she could react, he pulled her into his arms, his breath overwhelming her... hot and intense!
