Chapter 33: She's Had Enough
Charlotte looked down, her voice steady. "It's just his pride talking."
Ethan didn't love her.
He just couldn't handle the shame of relying on the Hawkins family. He wanted to keep his pride intact, and Charlotte, a woman who once loved him deeply, was the perfect pawn.
Lily was even more upset. She hugged Charlotte. "Forget him. He's nuts!"
Charlotte nodded softly.
She had already decided. Once her father's situation was sorted out, she would take Maria and leave Syeattel, start fresh somewhere else. But guilt and sadness weighed on her because her feelings had landed her father in jail and made Maria's later years uncertain.
Lily comforted her for a long time before she had to leave.
Charlotte's situation got worse. Ethan was relentless. One by one, her part-time jobs called to let her go. Charlotte nodded numbly.
The last call was from Ethan. Charlotte answered. Neither spoke at first, just their breaths mingling over the phone.
Finally, Charlotte broke the silence. "Ethan, what do you want?"
What did he want?
Ethan let out a cold laugh. "What do I want? Don't you know?"
Charlotte stayed silent, prompting him to speak again. "Charlotte, beg me! And everything will be fixed. I'll double everything you've lost. You'll live better than before. Remember how happy we were together?"
Charlotte sneered. "You mean the kind of happy where I waited for you to have dinner while you were sleeping with Tina?"
Ethan's voice tightened. "Who told you that?"
Charlotte softly uttered, "What do you think?" Then she hung up.
On the other end, Ethan slowly put down his phone, his eyes sharp.
Tina, she dug her own grave!
It was just a one-night stand, but she really thought she was his true love and dared to tell Charlotte.
Ethan wanted to call Gemma over, but to his surprise, Tina couldn't wait and came uninvited. Gemma awkwardly said, "Mr. Cooper, I told Miss Anderson you were in a meeting."
Ethan loosened his tie and said coldly, "Let her in."
Gemma was surprised but quickly brought Tina in.
Tina had dressed up specially, her tight dress showing off her figure. She immediately hugged Ethan, looking very understanding. "Feeling down? You said you were busy when I asked you out."
Ethan grabbed her slender neck and kissed her.
His kisses were both skilled and untamed, causing Tina to go limp, responding involuntarily. The office resonated with the sounds of their passion, evoking blushes and racing hearts in anyone who overheard.
In the heat of the moment, Ethan gently tugged Tina's hair and whispered like a lover, "Did you tell Charlotte about us?"
Tina, lost in the moment, let out a soft moan, "Ethan, why bring her up? Let's continue."
"So it's true!" Ethan whispered against her face, lightly biting her cheek.
Tina was momentarily stunned.
She finally sensed something was off with Ethan. He was different from usual, but she couldn't put her finger on it.
Just as Tina was lost in thought, a sharp pain shot through her scalp.
Ethan yanked her hair and threw her forcefully, her forehead slamming into the cold desk, blood streaming down.
