Chapter 22: Charlotte Doesn't Care Who He's With
Charlotte was shocked to see Chloe at the hospital too.
Under the moonlight, she saw a couple locked in a passionate kiss.
Ethan had his arms around Chloe's waist, holding her face tenderly.
For someone with his temper, he coaxed her gently, "Just one more kiss tonight! You need to get some sleep."
Chloe, with an innocent look in her eyes, clung to his neck and teased, "Ethan, we're engaged now. When are we going to take the next step?"
Ethan was about to brush her off when he noticed Charlotte standing in the hallway.
Who knew how long she'd been watching?
Ethan suddenly pulled Chloe close to his chest, not wanting her to notice Charlotte.
But his eyes were fixed on Charlotte.
He hadn't expected Charlotte to be saved. He had already decided to sacrifice her, but she was lucky and came back unscathed.
Chloe had no idea what was going through Ethan's mind. She was lost in his sweet words, her fingers tracing patterns on Ethan's chest, urging him softly, "Ethan, what are you waiting for?"
Ethan gave a half-hearted response.
He wanted to see Charlotte's reaction, but she just gave a slight smirk and quickly turned to leave.
Ethan's heart tightened.
Charlotte used to love him so much that even a hint of his unhappiness would make her miserable for days, and she'd do everything to cheer him up.
But now, he was about to be with someone else, and she didn't even flinch.
He couldn't believe Charlotte felt nothing.
"Is it that you desire me so much?" Ethan's voice remained composed.
Then, he gently tugged on the girl's long hair and lowered his head to kiss her passionately.
He was urgent and fierce.
Chloe couldn't take it, lightly punching his shoulder and complaining, "Ethan, what's wrong with you?"
Ethan stopped. His eyes were deep and filled with a somber, unyielding darkness.
He suddenly picked Chloe up and headed toward the VIP room. Chloe, shy, clung to his shoulder and whispered, "Do you really want me?"
Ethan responded softly.
As he turned into the hallway, he glanced around, but Charlotte was already gone.
Ethan's eyes dimmed.
Back in the private room, he and Chloe had sex for the first time. Chloe was both shy and bold. While Ethan couldn't deny his pleasure, he sensed an absence, a void.
By the time they finished, it was already early morning.
Ethan sat on a wooden chair on the balcony, a pack of cigarettes on the small round table beside him. He had already smoked four or five.
He had everything he wanted: a beautiful fiancée and all the benefits she brought. His body was satisfied with the sex, but his heart felt empty.
He couldn't forget Charlotte's mocking and indifferent look.
Soft arms wrapped around him from behind.
Chloe leaned against his back, asking gently, "What are you thinking about?"
Ethan stubbed out his cigarette and pulled his fiancée into his arms, whispering in her ear, "Chloe, no one is better than you."
Chloe snuggled into his embrace, pulling his hand to her chest, "You gotta treat me right, alright? Love me endlessly, and always make me a priority!"
Ethan's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. He didn't know how to love; he only loved power.
No matter whether Charlotte or Chloe, he just chose what was more beneficial for him.
After a while, Chloe suddenly spoke, "I saw Miss Russell earlier. Ethan, are you still feeling guilty for not being able to save her? It's okay; Frederick saved her and took care of her himself. You don't have to worry."
