Chapter 386 This Is Important Work Too
Charlotte's face went ice-cold, giving off some serious vibes.
Elizabeth felt kinda awkward.
Tina smirked, her red lips curling up. "Charlotte, you once said I couldn't keep people around. Well, guess what? I'm throwing that right back at you! Even though Elizabeth signed with you, she can still make friends, right?"
"Miss Anderson's got a point!" Charlotte gave a sly smile. "It's been a minute, and you've gotten even more fierce! But word on the street is your projects are always stuck. Hope your career's as sharp as your tongue!"
She threw some shade and then backed off.
Tina glanced at Charlotte, who had Frederick playing bodyguard.
Tina didn't dare to make a move.
She was super jealous and shot Elizabeth a smile, "Just wait and see!"
Elizabeth hesitated for a sec and said, "What you need most now is cash. Once you get the funds, what project can't take off? By then, she won't have any reason to gloat!"
Her words hit Tina right where it mattered.
Tina was deep in thought.
Just then, Brian rolled up with Sophie, and they had the No. 8 racer, Landon Carter, tagging along.
Elizabeth quickly introduced them, especially pointing out Tina.
"This is my old boss, Miss Anderson. She's got some big projects going."
The Nelson family had money, so Brian didn't really care.
But Landon? He was all ears.
The dude was tall, like 6'1", and after a few looks with Tina, they both got the hint and hit it off.
Half an hour later, they were all over each other in a hotel suite, like they couldn't get enough.
The air was thick with tension.
Finally, things calmed down.
The young guy leaned against the headboard, lit a cigarette, and blew out some smoke.
Tina leaned on his shoulder, feeling super satisfied but also knowing Landon was just good for the physical stuff.
After a bit of cuddling, Landon got his energy back.
Round two kicked off!
Tina couldn't keep up and crashed on the bed while he hit the shower.
The guy came out in a towel, not even trying to hide, and started getting dressed.
Tina sneered.
She didn't care much and propped her head up, asking, "Will there be a next time?"
The guy, with a cigarette hanging from his lips, looked kinda whatever. "We'll see. I'll hit you up if I got time."
Tina threw on a bathrobe and got out of bed.
She hugged him from behind, helping him button his shirt, and asked softly, "Got other women?"
The guy smiled but didn't deny it.
Tina wasn't just in it for the fun; she had other plans. So she pressed against his back, half flirting, half digging, "Been with Elizabeth?"
Landon frowned.
He pulled her hand away and said coolly, "She's the club owner's girl."
Tina felt relieved. Looked like Elizabeth was telling the truth.
Landon fastened his belt. "What? You mad?"
Tina sat at the edge of the bed, her eyes all seductive. "I got a movie project, and the lead's a racer. Haven't picked the male lead yet."
Landon leaned against the TV cabinet, checking her out.
Tina got straight to it. "But the project needs some cash! Elizabeth said you guys make money fast here, but I'm not so sure! If I make you the male lead, our interests align, and I believe you wouldn't screw me over."
Landon didn't jump on it right away.
He said he had zero acting chops.
Tina sauntered over, her voice all soft. "There'll be acting coaches. With your looks, you'll be a star in no time."
Landon lit a cigarette, taking his sweet time. "I gotta think about it."
Tina smiled and let him go.
Landon left the suite.
The party was still in full swing.
Elizabeth brushed past him but didn't say a word.
Finally, his eyes landed on a corner of the banquet hall where Brian and Sophie were chatting with a stunning woman. Being Brian's buddy, he knew the woman was Charlotte.
She was drop-dead gorgeous and oozed femininity.
Landon strolled over and called out, "Brian, Sophie, Ms. Russell!"
Brian had his arm around his wife.
Seeing Landon, he invited him to sit and made the introductions.
Landon pulled out a pack of smokes, tossed it on the table, and grinned. "Ms. Russell, I've heard a lot about you!"
Brian coughed lightly. "Alright, that's enough! Sophie's still here!"
Sophie giggled. "I don't mind! When my brother was chasing Ms. Russell, he was even more awkward."
Brian pretended to strangle her, fuming. "Whose wife is as generous as you? Sophie, do you love me or Ms. Russell?"
Sophie smiled innocently.
Brian pinched her cheek. "Always playing innocent!"
Just then, someone called him, so he took Sophie to mingle.
Only Charlotte and Landon were left in the corner.
Landon's gaze was a bit bold, and he said with a wicked grin, "I've sacrificed so much for you. How are you gonna thank me?"
Charlotte stared at him.
After a moment, she pulled out a check from her purse and placed it in front of Landon.
"The rest will come once the job's done."
Landon looked at the check. It was for 2 million bucks.
He smirked. "You're pretty generous!"
Charlotte stood up.
She adjusted her Dior shawl and said calmly, "If money can solve it, I usually don't offer anything else."
She left it at that and disappeared from the banquet hall.
Landon held the check and licked his lips.
What a smart woman. She knew he was into her, but she didn't show any emotion.
She was really something else.
Landon followed her.
At the hotel entrance, a black limo was already waiting. Charlotte, with her assistant, walked out.
The car door opened.
Frederick got out and wrapped his arms around his wife, saying gently, "Get in the car, please!"
Charlotte smiled at him.
Ever since she knew he had regained his memory, her gaze had softened.
Frederick was both happy and a bit jealous.
He closed the car door for her and was about to walk to the other side when he noticed someone standing at the entrance.
Frederick recognized it was Landon, the illegitimate son of a Bostan tycoon, known for his wild ways.
The tycoon's legitimate son had died in a car crash.
Landon was the only heir but still refused to take over the family business, preferring to mess around.
The two men locked eyes.
Landon smiled lightly, pulled out the check, and kissed it.
The car drove off towards home.
Charlotte was unfazed; in fact, she was in a good mood because things were moving along.
On the way, Frederick kept glancing at her.
After a while, Charlotte couldn't ignore it anymore and asked, "Why do you keep staring at me?"
"You're beautiful!"
Just then, they hit a red light. Frederick stopped the car.
He turned to look at her.
Having known Charlotte for almost eight years, he felt he had changed a lot, but Charlotte had only gotten more attractive.
Even pregnant, she still had guys interested in her!
Charlotte guessed his thoughts and pretended to adjust her shawl. "I'm not into him! Besides, Frederick, don't you know me better than that? I don't have such poor taste."
Frederick knew better.
Otherwise, she had so many chances over the years, but she was still his.
He gently touched her face and said softly, "I'm jealous! I really want to lock you up, Mrs. Hawkins."
Women loved it when men were straightforward. Charlotte was no exception.
She blushed slightly and turned her head away.
Frederick cupped the back of her head and pulled her towards him.
Charlotte called him softly, "Frederick."
He responded nonchalantly, then leaned in to kiss her, gently holding her to give her the best experience. Charlotte held on for a while, then couldn't help but respond.
They took turns being proactive.
The car behind them honked like crazy, and Charlotte snapped back to reality, blushing as she pushed him away.
Frederick's long fingers lightly brushed her lips, his voice hoarse. "They're just jealous of me!"
Frederick chuckled and restarted the car.
By the time they got home, it was already late. Charlotte went to check on the kids first.
Frederick made her some hot cocoa.
When he was done, she was already in the study, looking at documents on her computer.
Frederick put down the hot cocoa and kissed the corner of her mouth. "Are the little ones asleep?"
Thinking of those soft little kids, Charlotte's heart softened too. She nodded, sipping the hot cocoa while continuing to look at the documents.
Frederick felt a bit worried.
He bent down from behind to hug her, lightly nibbling the soft flesh behind her ear. "Shouldn't you let the baby in your belly rest too?"
Charlotte knew he was still thinking about Landon!
She looked up at him. "Do you really care that much? Then I won't interact with him."
Frederick trusted her and didn't want to show weakness. He played with her earlobe, pretending not to care. "He's just a kid. I don't mind!"
Charlotte smiled faintly and said nothing. She finished her hot cocoa and was about to continue looking at the documents.
Frederick, wanting to prove he was more charming than a younger man, picked her up and carried her to the bedroom. Charlotte quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. "I have important work to do."
Frederick kissed her. "Mrs. Hawkins, this is important work too!"
Charlotte couldn't do anything about him.
She simply became obedient and submissive. Having been married to him for a long time, she knew exactly what he liked, so the atmosphere was very good.
Frederick left only a bedside lamp on.
He was very gentle and patient, and Charlotte had to admit she enjoyed it.
Afterwards, Charlotte leaned against him and whispered, "I can't get up to do my work now."
Frederick laughed rather wickedly.
Even so, Charlotte got up early in the morning and went to the study to continue looking at documents.
But a thick stack of documents had already been printed out.
Coincidentally, it was exactly what she needed.
On top of the documents was a fresh white rose, still dewy.
Charlotte sat down and picked it up to smell it. She couldn't help but wonder. Frederick was nearly 36. Why did he have such good energy?
He played wildly at night, worked on documents in the middle of the night, and ran in the morning!
Her phone rang on the desk; it was Landon.
Charlotte answered, "What's up?"
Landon's tone was playful. "There's a race next month, with a big pot! Everyone's betting on Brian to win."
Charlotte listened quietly.
Landon, sitting on the hotel sofa, glanced at Brian and continued, "Actually, ever since he got married, his legs have been weak. If it weren't for me letting him win, he couldn't possibly take first place."
Charlotte said, "Get to the point!"
Landon chuckled. "In this race, I can drain Miss Anderson's money! How will you thank me?"
Charlotte's tone was indifferent. "Aren't you getting both money and the woman? What more do you want?"
She meant she could ask someone else for help.
Landon stopped her. "Alright, alright, just kidding! For Brian's sake, I'll help you!"
After hanging up, Landon rubbed his lips and chuckled.
Brian, who was texting his wife, casually said, "I'm warning you, Charlotte has a husband, and Frederick is not to be messed with! Don't provoke her, or if Sophie finds out and cries to me every night, I can't handle it."
Landon leaned back on the sofa.
With his long arms and legs stretched out, he smirked. "If it weren't for you, I'd really want to conquer her!"
He thought that playing a romantic game with such a woman would be very exciting.
Brian got up and tapped him with his phone. "Stop daydreaming! She's not like any one of your sexual partners!"
Landon didn't believe it.
Brian knew all too well that Landon was half-serious, half-joking, but somewhat tempted.
He walked to the window and smiled faintly. "Landon, back then I was half-playing and half-serious! But Sophie's brother Oliver was deeply in love; he liked Charlotte for many years but got nowhere! That's how feelings are, timing and reciprocation, even a tiny bit off, and it won't work!"
If there was a taboo in Syeattel, Oliver's feelings for Charlotte were one of the top ones.
Frederick had always cared about it!
So over the years, they had met no more than three times in total.
After Brian finished speaking, he turned his head lightly. "I also liked Charlotte, but now I'm sure my feelings for her are familial! Charlotte is like a sister to me. Landon, you can play with anyone but don't mess with Charlotte! Believe me, in the end, you'll be the one who gets hurt!"
Landon shrugged. "Got it!"
He pulled Brian to go practice driving, but Brian said, "Sophie and I are going back to Bostan. See you at the race next month!"
Brian left.
Landon sat alone for a while.
He remembered Brian's words, but he was quite rebellious.
He ordered a bouquet of roses to be delivered to Charlotte's villa at dinner time.
At that time, Chloe was with Charlotte.
When the flowers arrived, Chloe's eyes widened, stammering, "Charlotte, you have a suitor!"
She glanced at Charlotte's belly.
Charlotte was both amused and annoyed.
She knew it was Landon's prank; he wasn't really interested in her, just too bored.
Charlotte had the flowers thrown away.
She made a call to Elizabeth, and when the call connected, she softly gave an instruction.
