Chapter 462 A Month Apart, Reunion Sweeter Than Newlyweds 2
After asking, Andrew's eyes landed on her face.
Chloe blushed and walked over to pat Natalie, who was hugging a pillow and sleeping soundly.
Chloe's gaze softened, and after a moment, she asked, "Why do you want to know?"
Andrew gave a faint smile, "What do you think?"
The atmosphere was pretty charged, but luckily there was a kid around.
Chloe ignored him and turned to leave, but Andrew wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her right into his lap.
Chloe used to be wild and passionate, clinging to Andrew's neck every night, whispering sweet nothings. But now, with two kids, she had become more reserved. Sometimes, she couldn't even handle a single look from Andrew.
She held onto Andrew's arm. Through the shirt fabric, his skin was burning hot.
She whispered, "Andrew, let me go!"
"Feeling shy?" He chuckled softly in her ear but eventually let her go.
Chloe adjusted her dress and then said softly, "Andrew, you need to temper your desires."
Andrew had planned to tease her more, but seeing her eyes slightly red, his heart softened, and his voice turned husky. "Are you worried about me?"
He thought she wouldn't admit it, but Chloe nodded honestly. "Afraid you'll die!"
Though it was said in anger, he could sense her underlying worry. They had been pretty sweet lately, but his health always made her uneasy.
Andrew gently pulled her closer. He didn't say anything; he just gently wiped away her tears.
"I'll be fine," he promised her gently.
Just then, Gavin stood at the door with his backpack, "Dad, I'm going to be late for school!"
Chloe, feeling embarrassed, turned her back.
Andrew got up and lightly patted her shoulder. "Get some rest; I'll pick Gavin up from school tonight."
Chloe stayed silent.
At the door, Gavin's eyes were wide open. Andrew walked over, gently covered his eyes, and bent down to pick him up.
Gavin wrapped his arms around Andrew's neck and felt a bit of comfort.
Andrew could sense Gavin's thoughts. He took him downstairs, placed him in the back seat, and personally buckled his seatbelt.
Gavin's cheeks turned slightly red.
Andrew reached out and patted his little head, "If you want to sleep with Mom and Dad, just say so."
Gavin grumbled awkwardly, "I'm not like Natalie; I wake up at night!"
Andrew was momentarily stunned before he got the implication and couldn't help but laugh, "You little rascal!"
After dropping him off at school, Andrew headed to his busy office.
Andrew worked until late afternoon. He glanced at his watch and decided to leave early to pick up Gavin.
Just then, his secretary walked in, smiling, "Andrew, there's a lady here to see you."
Andrew pressed a button to close the blinds. He asked casually, "Who is it? A client?"
The secretary shook her head, "She said her last name is Watson."
Nina?
Andrew frowned slightly and told the secretary, "Tell her I'm not available."
The secretary noticed a rare look of disgust on Andrew's face. Usually, he was a total gentleman with women. She thought for a moment and remembered that Miss Watson was a celebrity.
Just then, Nathan walked in and overheard.
After the secretary left, Nathan wiped the sweat from his forehead. He had gone out for some errands and saw Nina waiting outside the company, wearing a white dress.
Nathan sighed, "I underestimated her!"
He figured Nina had looked into Andrew's marital status; otherwise, she wouldn't be so bold. How naive!
Andrew had been a playboy in his early years, but the women he associated with were all respectable, not someone as casual as Nina. And compared to Chloe, she was far inferior!
Nathan followed Andrew, closed the office door, and suggested in the elevator, "I haven't dealt with that Wesley matter yet. Should I put some pressure on him?"
Andrew adjusted his shirt in the mirror, his face showing no expression.
After a long pause, he said, "It's quite a headache! You handle it; just don't upset Chloe!"
Last night's dinner had already made her unhappy. He needed to be more careful in the future.
Nathan smiled, "Absolutely!"
At that moment, Nina was waiting at the company entrance. When Andrew walked out, she immediately approached.
"Mr. Devereux, I apologize for what happened last night."
Andrew ignored her. He got into the car, and as the driver was about to close the door, Nina boldly grabbed the door.
She said urgently, "Mr. Devereux, can I buy you dinner?"
Andrew looked up at her and spoke coldly, "No need to apologize; I don't care at all. Let go, I'm in a hurry to pick up Gavin from school."
Nina blurted out, "I've studied child psychology; I can take care of kids."
"We don't need a nanny!" Andrew said, slamming the car door shut.
Nina's pale fingers were caught, turning blue and purple. She bit her lip, enduring the pain. Andrew didn't even look at her as the car drove away.
Nathan walked over, gracefully took out a thousand dollars from his wallet, "Miss Watson, go to the hospital and get that bandaged. Also, Andrew doesn't like people interfering in his private life."
Nina lowered her head, not speaking.
Nathan continued, "Andrew loves Chloe very much! There's no place for you between them."
Nina's eyes reddened, "She doesn't love him at all!"
Nathan found it both amusing and annoying, and said bluntly, "It is none of your business. Stop bothering him, or you will pay the price."
Nina bit her lip, "I won't give up!" After saying that, she left.
Nathan took out his phone and called Wesley, speaking rather rudely, "I can help you with that matter, provided you keep Nina in check. If she keeps pestering him, you'll never get back on your feet."
Wesley was quite candid: "I broke up with Nina! When she was with me, she acted like she loved me to death. Now that she's found someone better, she kicked me to the curb. She's dead set on finding a rich guy, Nathan."
After hanging up, Nathan immediately dialed Charlotte's number.
Charlotte quickly answered, her voice soft and gentle, "Nathan, what's up?"
Nathan paused for a moment before speaking, "Do you know Nina? She's starting to cozy up to Andrew."
Charlotte chuckled, "Is Andrew worried Chloe will get upset?"
Nathan smiled wryly, "Exactly! You know, because of past issues, Chloe has always been uneasy. We can't afford any more trouble."
Charlotte's voice remained gentle, "As long as Andrew has no interest, it's fine! Besides, Chloe and Nina are in the same circle; Chloe won't be at a disadvantage! Moreover, having someone like that around might actually spice up their relationship. I think they need to learn to trust each other more."
Nathan's mouth fell open.
Charlotte continued, "Nina is not a threat, Nathan, don't worry! The real issue between Chloe and Andrew is their distance. After all, they haven't spent much time together over the years. It has nothing to do with anyone else."
Nathan raised a thumb, "Charlotte, you're a relationship expert now!"
On the other end, Charlotte shook her head with a bitter smile. She wasn't an expert at all; she was strictly managed by Frederick.
But looking at Frederick's well-maintained face, she felt she could forgive and endure it. After all, not every man in his thirties was so pleasing to the eye.
Andrew picked up Gavin and returned to Chloe's place. Unexpectedly, Chloe wasn't there. The nanny said she had gone to an audition.
But Natalie wobbled over, hugging Andrew's leg and acting cute. Gavin put down his backpack and took Natalie to have a snack.
Andrew dialed Chloe's number. When she answered, he asked directly, "Are you coming back for dinner?"
Chloe paused, "I have a social engagement."
Andrew felt quite disappointed. They had been apart for so long, and even after reconciling, they hadn't had many chances to spend time together. He wanted to be with her more, but he wasn't the type to keep a woman tied to the house. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Alright, I'll pick you up after your engagement."
Chloe was silent for a while. She suddenly said, "I saw Nina! She left Wesley."
She didn't say more, but Andrew could guess. Nina must have said something to Chloe.
He thought for a moment and explained, "I have no interest in her! Chloe, I want to live a good life with you."
Chloe believed him. But Nina was really annoying. After leaving Wesley, she found Xavier Brown and joined the crew again, playing the third female lead.
These annoying things, she would have complained to Andrew about them in the past. Andrew would have helped her.
But now, in her thirties, being suppressed by a girl in her twenties was just humiliating.
Chloe thought for a moment and said, "I'll come out early at nine."
Andrew felt a wave of tenderness. Suddenly, the unpleasant feelings from seeing Nina earlier vanished.
Andrew responded with a hum.
The nanny had made dinner, but Andrew still whipped up a separate meal for the kids. He had missed too much of their childhood, and now that Chloe was busy with her career, he spent time with the kids.
Both children ate heartily. After dinner, Andrew held Natalie and helped Gavin with his homework. Gavin got perfect scores, but he would deliberately make mistakes, asking Andrew to explain. Andrew knew but didn't expose him.
Natalie nestled in her dad's arms, occasionally clapping her chubby hands, "Daddy is great!"
Gavin patted her head, whispering, "You know a lot."
When Andrew went to pick up Chloe, he felt comfortable leaving Gavin to take care of his sister. Gavin could even bathe Natalie, and he was quite efficient. Gavin was capable, just like him!
Andrew thought tenderly as he got into the car. He drove to pick her up.
At the club, Chloe left promptly at nine. She came from a good family, so no one dared to stop her or force her to drink. But as she walked out, Nina followed her, calling out in the quiet hallway, "Miss Hawkins!"
Chloe turned around. She quietly observed Nina, who had a defiant look on her face. Chloe didn't speak.
Nina sneered, "Do you know why I don't call you Mrs. Devereux? Because you and he aren't really married. So what if you have two kids? You divorced years ago! I found out you had a falling out at your wedding years ago."
Chloe lowered her eyes and smiled lightly. When she looked up again, there was a hint of mockery in her eyes, "It seems you've investigated Andrew's past thoroughly."
Nina had spent money to investigate. She found out that Andrew's past was once so glorious, but he gave it all up to marry Chloe, yet Chloe didn't cherish him. Chloe didn't deserve Andrew at all.
Her eyes reddened, "I can have children for him too! I'm young and healthy."
Chloe couldn't help but laugh. She lightly brushed her long hair aside, her voice soft, "Miss Watson, do you think all Andrew wants is children? You should know from your investigation how many lovers he had back then. Not to mention others, just Grace—do you think you can compare to her status in the industry? And Celeste, do you know her academic background and her paintings have won international awards? Andrew's former lovers were all outstanding. What advantage do you think you have?"
Nina felt a wave of embarrassment. After a long pause, she squeezed out a sentence, "But you're the worst among them!"
Chloe shrugged, "Yes, I'm the worst. I can't do anything."
She looked at Nina, her smile cold. "But I come from the best family, I speak the most languages among his girlfriends, and I'm the most beautiful. I can easily crush someone like you! And, although Andrew was a playboy, none of his girlfriends ever been with anyone else."
Nina felt humiliated. Just then, the sound of leather shoes echoed.
